Contest stats and Discussion - Part 126

Something else to think about: 10 hours into the poll, Master Hand had about a 150 vote lead or so. It only took him 8 and a half hours to extend it to 5000.

From being down by 400, to building a 5,000 vote lead is just amazing.

Master Hand is putting on one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen.

And I did forget about Chief's matches back in '04, where he owned the after-school vote against Frog. But Chief would destroy Master Hand anyway, so that'd be no fun.

This contest seems to have much weirder voting patterns than the past ones. Anyone else notice this or have a good explanation why?

Oh, and I predict the SFF from Ganondorf vs. M. Hand to be at best as much as the SFF in Sora vs. Aeris....or at worst as much as Link vs. Ganondorf

It's oh-so weird that we thought for the first half of the day that this match very well could have been the closest match wire-to-wire we ever had, then MH pulls out the most wicked day-vote to ever be seen as far as I know, and without any front-page linking either like MC had for his incredible turn-around. The only thing that competes with this is Donkey Kong/Duck Hunt, and DH made a 3,100+ comeback that still had him lose. MH has 5,500 votes up on his worst moment in today's match and could still make it bigger, and it's obvious he'll win today too now.

It could be less than Sora/Aeris too... Sora would've given Aeris the fight of her life without SFF, you know.

And I'm late for that, but XD at Ulti's prediction for tomorrow's match. You know that implies Andross being a huge deal stronger than Fox himself, right? Bowser will cream Sigma.

I'm pretty sure Ulti's thing was written before Sigma/Andross went down. I don't know that, but for the sake of respect, I hope he did.

If MH = SSBM, we have an absolute monster in our hands. Unfortunately, we don't, but it's fun to think about.

Hilarity. Two 7 seeds have beaten their 2s (which hasn't happened since Seph > Crash...OMGASIGN!), and there's a strong possibility we could have two 7s in the Elite 8 and even 1 in the Final 4.

Quick reminder: Ansem pulled a similar stunt two days ago. Now, it was against a complete jobber, but to go head to head with CATS for five hours, you must be damned weak yourself.

Conclusion: What we saw today doesn't mean Master Hand is all-powerful. Calm down, Eggman's still in this. Though MH certainly is a hand ahead already...

At the 20:30 mark, this match has 68858 votes. To compare to other matches at the same time:

Wily/Ultros - 66136
Lavos/Mother Brain - 66537
Kefka/Mithos - 67727
Robotnik/Sin - 67417

Strangely enough, all non-Sephiroth Square villains seem to be drawing roughly the same amount of votes.

Well, I'm back from that 11-day trip to Europe...wow, I was in for surprises. I suppose Master Hand's victory today is the most surprising of those. I mean, Kuja has a GREAT pic, and STILL blows it. Most of the matches went different from what I expected...Lavos should've won by more, L. Snake shouldn't have dominated that much, etc. Now, after 14 straight correct predictions, I miss two in a row...at least they were close. I really, really hope Robotnik beats Master Hand next round.

If you do this against anyone not named CATS, you're a force to be reckoned with.

...but I'm sure CATS was stronger this time around. Not everyone who knows the "All your Base" fad will remember/recognize CATS with his previous pictures...this time he actually was recognizable and I'm sure he gained a lot from it.

What a glorious past two days I've had!!!

First, I finally get my wireless router working at my house in Miami. I decide to finally try out Halo 2 on XBox Live and I get my ass handed to me by some geeks that sound like all they do is make love to their XBox all day....

My little brother ERASES my Super Smash Bros. Melee file, so everything I've done on that game is GONE!

My date today with a BEAUTIFUL island girl is postponed, so there went all of my fun plans for today...

And on top of that, my favorite Final Fantasy villain is losing to Master Hand. Not to mention there goes a crucial 3 points off of my bracket. I could see if it was one of the matches that I was iffy about that I got wrong (i.e. Diablo/Ridley), but THIS? This is even LOWER than Mario/Crono II. All of my enthusiasm for this contest just went down the drain.... I guess I'll never be in touch with the Gamefaqs mainstream... ¬_¬

Well at least for consolation, in redoing my Smash Bros file, I got to beat Master Hand AND Crazy Hand down 14+ times in getting all of my characters back.
