Yeah, Master Hand fans were, for the most part, labeled as "crazies"
and "clinically insane". *stares at HM* Then when MH won the
upset-poll, everybody suddenly jumped on the M. BISON bandwagon and
passed off Master Hand for various reasons (low vote totals, not a
one-on-one poll, joke, etc.)...
...and now he's running away with the lead...
...I think what MH has done is more impressive than what Diablo did, and MH has done it without any front-page links (not calling Diablo a cheater, don't mistake that); this is solely GameFAQs that's making for the huge upset.

I understand that one match shouldn't get Star and Turd both, but I'd
given Ansem or Sigma the Turd award instead, so one match doesn't steal
all the spotlight.

Yeah, I understand, but being one of the biggest supporters of Ghaleon to grace this topic it's still a tad insulting, ya know.

Well, I've already said that I was wrong. But, I still think this is
more showing Kuja's weakness than it is anything of Master Hand's
strength. Basically, I overestimated Kuja by a whole lot. However, I am
very pleased to see him getting beat, even if I lose a point because of
it.

But the fact remains, while MH faced a now blatantly overestimated
competitor, Bison faced an absolute chump. The voters may not have been
aware/remembered that fact.

Yes. Assuming you were talking to me.
And I would almost wager money that there will not be a perfect this time. In fact, I think the winner will be 2 points away from a perfect.

Don't worry about that. I don't think MH will see the same success in the day against Robotnik that he did today.
On a sidenote, can we finally accept that there is a tangible Black Mage Factor now?

Don't forget that the Sonic Team is supposed to own the day-vote, too. Now, Robo didn't do that yesterday against FFX's Sin, but perhaps he can still keep MH from going ape**** with the after-school vote?

While I think there is, I'm not sure how indicative this match is of that factor. It only helps that case, true, but I don't really see this as a big sign of it. I see it more as Kuja/MH being over/under-estimated and little else.

Lead's passed 3000.
I don't know about the BMF; I think this is just an example of what I've said all along: sans Sephiroth, Square doesn't support their villains. Look no further than Ansem, Sin, and Kuja -- all of whom were supposed to be able to compete with Kefka -- for proof positive of that. Hah, I say.

I'm really thinking no one will have a perfect bracket.
I know of 25 people that have perfect brackets, 24 Guru's + Kali.
1 of them has Master Hand.
1/25 have a perfect bracket.
280 Brackets.
280/25 = 11.2 perfect brackets.
Now that's only if the numbers we have are an accurate percentage of the total brackets. And if it is, well it's very, very, likely that we will not have a perfect bracket after it's all over with. One more upset can wipe out the entire field, and even without one, it's possible they will miss.
I actually think there are going to be closer to 20 perfects left since worst bracket-makers would actually choose Master Hand. But I also agree that there will not be a perfect.

I honestly don't give a crap about my bracket or winning this
contest, personally. I think you'd be a little miffed if a hand were

HA!! yeah, right. the prize money is the biggest reason to enter a bracket you feel confident in. at least, it definitely is for me.

Well, at least it will be consoling in that Robotnik will beat Master
Hand. I originally had Robotnik over Kuja when I first made my bracket
(though there was no way you could convince me that MH stood a chance;
boy was I wrong), but the board convinced me to switch to Kuja. I don't
care too much about winning prizes since there wasn't much of a chance
in the first place (heck, 10 other gurus have the same bracket as me,
so even if I did stay perfect it would come down to the tiebreaker).
All I can do is root Robotnik on, and he is my personal favorite in
that four-pack after all.

While Eggman's looking good, I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet.
Yes, Sin came out of this round looking rather good, but he could be
suffering from the same crap all Square villains short of Sephiroth
have, and Eggman could just be a pathetic loser. (I'm praying for
Eggman now though, since I've already lost two of my Elite 8 guys, and
Ocelot may be coming up next.) And should MH beat Eggman too, hold your
horses: both may suck too. The key to the entire division is, of
course, Ganondorf, since we've seen him before.

I think there'll be less than 30 left with perfects after this; with
such a serious bracket to get the first 15 right and the lack of
attention that Kuja/MH got on about any given day, I think there will
be plenty of "safe" picking for this match, whether they thought it had
a chance or not. In fact, I think 20's more likely than 30.

Actually, Link/Cloud should be interesting this summer. If the contest starts August 1st, Advent Children is released right in the middle.
And if it starts in July, it may come around smack dab at the end of the contest. Remember Mario/Cloud? Yeah, that. Sure, there are people who don't believe in the SMS factor, but seriously, how else can you explain everyone in Cloud's half of the division being so horribly underrated in 2002's stats?

Robotnik's lead capped an hour before this yesterday, and Sin started closing in from there on out.
*Checks poll, notices MH is still clearing 60-80 votes increase every 5 minutes*
Seriously, Robotnik is going to have to have a massive lead going into the daylight is he wants to pull off next round.

Mushroom Division: Round 2 - Match 17 – (1)Bowser vs. (4)Sigma
Moltar’s Analysis
Bowser - I’ll have what he’s having; steroids!
Round 1 – vs. Pyramid Head (Bowser: 83.88% - Pyramid Head: 16.12%)
Bowser impresses greatly in Round 1, with a massive victory over Pyramid Head.
Sigma - He didn’t really defeat Andross. No one defeats Andross!
Round 1 – vs. Andross (Sigma: 53.49% - Andross: 46.51%)
Sigma doesn’t come out of his match looking as strong as expected. Poor him.
Alright, Round 2! Now I can do that thingy again, with the italics…after the characters names. Ok, I bet you don’t care, but neither do I!
Anyway, on with this match. Before the Contest, some people were discussing a possible Sigma over Bowser upset. Of course they were just trying to find the one risk that would pay off big over the end. Like Starcraft, or Sora, even Link in 2002 AND 2004 to a certain extent. Well, when Round 1 actually rolled around, and the first two matches took places, those people were silenced. Bowser’s impressive performance + Sigma’s meh performance = No upset for you. Bowser takes this one easily.
Moltar’s Bracket Says: Bowser will win
Moltar’s Prediction is: Bowser 68% - Sigma 32%
Ulti’s Analysis
As foregone as it may be to think that Bowser has this locked up, I wouldn't be surprised if Sigma makes a game of it. I doubt he'll win, but given how close Mega Man is to Mario, Sigma coming close to Bowser wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world. It would be a shock if he flat-out won, but I doubt he will. Bowser being the first character on the brackets tells me that he got more nominations than anyone else, so his bracket support will be there in the event of this being tough for him.
Prediction: Bowser with 53.24%
Soul’s Analysis
After the first round, we witnessed many close matches, huge victories, and even some surprises. Can Round 2 be the same? Well, starting the round, we have the Koopa king himself, Bowser, taking on Sigma, a robot from the Megaman X series. Well, to tell you the truth, this match isn't up in the air at all. Bowser will win this one somewhat easily. I'm guessing he'll get in the 62.35% range.
Outback’s Analysis
Or those little robot bowser things that run on the match pic vs. Sigma
Sigma gave a pretty unimpressive performance in Round 1 vs. Andross, but he still won. He got as far as anybody was expecting him to go, but this match vs. Bowser should be a good gauge of his strength and/or his worth to be in a future summer contest. There is really no chance that Sigma can win here; by this point I'd say it's a fair assumption that Bowser has his division wrapped up.
Bowser 66.67 Sigma 33.33
Inviso’s Analysis
Seriously, Sigma had trouble with a character from STARFOX. Bowser got the second biggest (and most undeserving) victory of the contest thus far. This will be an easy match…and is a refreshing change of pace from the ****ing stupid matches like Ansem vs. CATS and Kuja vs. Master Hand, where the joke character was actually strong. Anyway, this’ll be my first analysis with only one paragraph, because there’s not enough to make a second paragraph. Oh well…
Bowser still sucks!
My prediction: Bowser with 67.41%

Kuja vs. Master Hand - Bracket: Kuja - Vote: MH (14/15)
Slowflake:
The SMS factor? Wouldn't it be the PGC (PlanetGamecube) factor? You have to remember that when Billy ran his endorsement PGC was extremely popular for Nintendo enthusiasts - SMS probably had an effect, but I'm pretty sure voters who followed the PGC link were primarily responsible.

Hmm, haven't heard any commentary from creativename yet. Can't wait to see how he reacts to this.

Blame SMS, PGC, bracket-voting, and divine intervention on Mario/Cloud. Seriously.

We've been over the PGC thing before, it may have been enough to Mario
over the top but it wasn't enough to make up the huge gap between him
and Cloud. SMS simply did far more than PGC.

We need some vote comparisons right about now; next round will be heated, to say the least.

well, here's the odds of there being a perfect bracket:
there are really 4 matches in question left:
Ocelot vs. Dr. Wily
Diablo vs Bison
Robotnik vs. Master Hand
Kefka vs. Diablo/Bison
so, if you multiply the potential winners (2x2x2x3), you get 24 potential brackets. that means we have a 1/24 chance of their being a perfect bracket. so, as long as we have more than 24 brackets, we have a decent chance of getting a perfect bracket. although, i really think Bison winning would be the biggest upset and would probably destroy all perfect brackets.

The things that happen while I'm at work...
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/22?matchnum=2004
I think Kuja will start a comeback in a few hours, but much like Sin, it won't be enough.
Two matches in two days wrong for me, but in the end I'd prefer an unpredictable bracket anyway.

Although for my bracket's sake I'm glad that I didn't go through with my Kuja > Ganondorf upset. ^^

Speaking of unpredictable brackets... Check out this topic I started
and nominate any characters that you think should be in the top 64. All
help is appreciated.
Once the top 64 characters are decided, the bracket match ups will be decided. It's too bad that Ceej would never accept a bracket made from the board, but it's still fun to see what the contest could be like.
