*Extrapolated Standings*

Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

I found some Kuja quotes on a site and I must post them. ^_^

*Final Fantasy IX spoilers*

Rats often look for new homes when they sense an earthquake." (Burmecia)

"Now, what do we have here...? Another filthy rat, and... Hmm... This boy could become a problem..." (Burmecia)

"Not bad... better if I didn't have to see those vermin and the ugly elephant-lady. They offend my senses." (Treno)

"The canary I've been after... She flew into my cage of her own free will." (Treno)

"Fly home to your mother, my little canary. I, too, will welcome you home with open arms." (Treno)

Yes, an act from a beautiful play... There is a knight on a white horse... ...and a beautiful princess. It is a tale of tragic love. Overcome by grief, the princess must sleep for a hundred years..." (Alexandria Castle)

"Silver Dragon, let us watch the drama unfold from the trunk of Iifa. No one shall interrupt us there." (Iifa Tree)

"The weak lose their freedom to the strong. Such is the way of the strong. And it is the providence of nature that only the strong survive. That is why I needed strength. I learned of powers that would daunt even him...over ten years ago. Such a long time... Now my forces are ready to strike! Ahh... The suspense is terrible! So they've come this far, have they? Perfect. I'll warm up on them until the elephant-lady shows up." (Iifa Tree)

"Oh, dear... The princess has such a bloodthirsty little puppet. I don't have the power to do such a thing. I just gave them a little recipe. Begin with broth of Mist, add fermented souls, and boil... Then, pour genuine black magic into a mixing bowl and heat to- (Vivi says: Stop it!) I'm not done telling how to make soulless toys out of the dregs of souls!" (Iifa Tree)

"So the curtain rises! Perfect, my canary. Let me show you the truth about your mother! First Act: The End of the Ugly Desire. It's show time!" (Iifa Tree)

"Her ugliness and stupidity are truly impressive." (Iifa Tree)

"Blood... Hahahaha... Excellent, Bahamut! Power, mobility... You are truly the best! You even hurt me...a little. And you, Brahne... Your tragic role in this drama now comes to an end! I'm sure you'll enjoy the second act from your soul's hellish prison, since the stage will be your former home!" (Iifa Tree)

"It's time to really light things up! Your former master is here, Bahamut. Play a requiem for her and all of Alexandria!" (Alexandria)

"I'm sure that even your feeble mind can grasp what would happen if you were to take that plunge. Ahahahahahahaha!" (Desert Palace)

"I'd watch my mouth if I were you. Surely, you haven't forgotten that I hold your friends' lives in my hands." (Desert Palace)

"Spare me the emotional reunion scene, please." (Desert Palace)

"Poor Garland... Bitten by his own dog... This is no accident. Fate has chosen me to become new ruler of Terra! Time for me to put on the finishing touches." (Terra)

"Should I kill you quickly to show my appreciation for all you've done? Or should I kill you slowly and painfully to show you my love... Oh, I've got a great idea! How's this? I'll make you pillars for my castle! You'll all decorate my castle as a symbol of my eternal kingdom... How do you like that?" (Terra)

"Why should the world exist without me? That wouldn't be fair. If I die, we all die! Zidane, you will be my first sacrifice." (Memoria)

"After you guys beat me, I had nothing left...nothing more to lose. Then, I finally realized what it means to live... I guess I was too late."

You know, looking at the results of today's poll makes me think back to that Favorite FF Villains poll. Which ones did the worst? The villains who just appear at the end for little or no reason and don't serve much more purpose than a last boss fight (such as Zeromus or Necron). As I said, Ansem may fall into this same category.

Doesn't matter whether or not it's from Green Hill Zone or not. It probably WILL be Robotnik in his flying pod. He's in it on a lot more levels though. Ceej will probably take it from one of the levels where he's flying it with nothing attached (Aquatic Ruin?)

Mumei, you forgot the best Kuja quote, by the way.

"Peace is but a shadow of death,
Desperate to forget its painful past...
Though we hope for promising years.
After shedding a thousand tears,
Yesterday's sorrow constantly nears.
And while the moon still shines blue,
By dawn, it will turn to scarlet hue."

All of the best villains wax poetic at times.

Lavos will lose in a more impressive fashion than previously thought to Liquid
Kefka WILL beat Wesker
Bison WILL beat Diablo and then Kefka

That makes a final score of 72/80 for me (my bracket has Ocelot > Wily and Diablo > Bison, Diablo > Kefka).

Why is everyone changing their mind about the importance of match pictures all of a sudden? You think a Metal Man background is going to change the minds of Ocelot fans, that a fighting background is going to change the mind of Diablo fans?

If anything, this match makes Sin look a LOT weaker.

Ansem is only vaguely referenced for a large part of the game , and only actually encountered at the very end.

Sin, on the other hand, is the giant villian that flys/swims around the world destroying things in a very obvious way, and whom you fight in some sense or other about 8 times throughout the course of the game. The first of which is five minutes into the game. Oh and he's the final dungeon as well.

So, an obscure, rarely seen Square villian has any sort of connection to a Square villian who dominates the conversation of the entire game? I don't think so.

The problem with Who Cares is that he has no good qualities. The only thing about Who Cares that people care about is... well, you know.

Tai, if you want to know why I use Who Cares and Not Robotnik in place of Sin and Kuja's names, it's because I want the idea to stick. In the first round, Robotnik is going up against a "just happy to be here" opponent, someone who shouldn't have been in this contest in the first place. And in the second round, it's Robotnik versus someone who ISN'T as well-known or popular as Robotnik, and someone a lot less recognizable than Robotnik. In short, it's Robotnik versus Not Robotnik.

Yeah, but Robotnik's just a big fact piece of **** scientist, being from Sega won't help much if the character is lame.

Let's hear it for more typos.

Dr. Robotnik is, perhaps, the second most recognizable and important villain in video game history. Despite what some out-of-touch people here might think, Robotnik is a liked and respected villain, especially among Sonic fans. I've seen more Wily/Robotnik championship matches in favorite brackets than anything else.

Too bad that 2nd round one isn't going to stick.

Tai, if you want to know why I use Who Cares and Not Robotnik in place of Sin and Kuja's names, it's because I want the idea to stick.

What idea to stick? How the hell could your ideas stick when they're just attempts to discredit the **** out of these characters? Hey, I'll play along and call Robotnik "Not Smart". Or is "Not Winning" better for you? Because both actually make sense.

Now, Sin, or "Who Cares" as you call him, got 6 board nominations in my nominations topic, which is very little for my topic, and got a 6th seed, which probably means he got casual support. People CARE. YOU might or might not, but people CARE! So, pick a better name for Sin that actually portrays a correct statement, instead of using names that make you feel better about your picks.

Robotnik is going up against a "just happy to be here" opponent, someone who shouldn't have been in this contest in the first place.

What makes you think that Sin doesn't deserve to be in this contest? If it's a Final Fantasy character, it has to be explained. It just has to. Also, please do not insult the intelligence of the faithful that picked him by saying "Oh he's a big whale lolololol!!1!!1!". That wouldn't be funny.

And in the second round, it's Robotnik versus someone who ISN'T as well-known or popular as Robotnik, and someone a lot less recognizable than Robotnik. In short, it's Robotnik versus Not Robotnik.

Not Robotnik...you blow at choosing nicknames, I'm sorry. :-( The logic behind it blows harder. What are you basing this off?! Neither made the contest, but Kuja has the higer seed...come on, and it's a Final Fantasy character.

Anyhow, Eggman got two more nominations than Kuja, but Kuja has the higher seed. Well, hey, it's Kuja with a 2, and Eggman with a 3, but this means Kuja got more casuals. Or were they split? Sorry, I don't know about you, but I don't see a character from the same game as Vivi losing to Egghead, or will be Eggdead in 11 hours and 45 minutes. We'll see how this turns out, but trust me, if justice is served, this match won't even happen. In other words, Sin will win.

I didn't think Tai could possibly get anymore annoying.

Now as soon as something goes wrong with his ranting about all Square characters being so great in this contest, he responds with "Final Fantasy >>>>>>> Kingdom Hearts". Just face it, like I've said before... Square fans will not necessarily back all of their own. It has to be somebody they actually LIKE! Did you see Kefka's match against Pac-Man? Kefka is probably the most popular FF villain outside of Sephiroth! So why did he stink it up? ONLY a Kefka/Square fan would actually vote for unrecognizable Lettuce Kefka, so one would think that any backing Kefka got would be purely his fans. Did you see how much having the Square backing did for him? Bottom line: Being just Square doesn't mean a damn thing. You actually have to be a POPULAR Square character for it to mean anything....

And we've already seen that Sonic fans actually support their own. Why would they stop and not support Robotnik? He may not be a powerhouse, but Sonic fans would not turn and vote SIN over him! Good god! Robotnik is the boss of nearly EVERY Sonic level, been on three cartoon series, and is even PLAYABLE in the most popular next gen Sonic game! I use the same argument I did against Ridley. Robotnik may not be a powerhouse in this contest, but he doesn't need to be to beat Sin....

Interesting post I just made in my Update topic for this match.

The Top Ten Most Back-And-Forth Matches of All Time

Samus over Sonic ('02) - ? lead changes (15 minute updates weren't invented yet, plus we kept breaking the server with too many update requests. but this number was high, whatever it really was)
StarCraft over Wind Waker - 4 lead changes (though it did feature one of the biggest comebacks ever)
Mario RPG over Street Fighter 2 - 5 lead changes
Tommy over Donkey Kong - 6 lead changes
StarCraft over Halo - 6 lead changes
Metal Gear Solid over Final Fantasy Tactics - 6 lead changes
Frog over Liquid Snake - 6 lead changes
Mario over Crono ('03) - 6 lead changes (though one of those changes is still the most controversial of all time)

And finally, our new Top Two...

Ansem over CATS - 9 lead changes
Chrono Trigger over Link to the Past - 14(!) lead changes

So yes, this match has earned its place in the record books regardless.

PS - Remember, by lead changes, I'm talking according to 15 minute updates. Of course there were hundreds of ACTUAL lead changes in a match like CT/LttP, but since they would be impossible to track, I'm sticking with the 15 minute format throughout.

I could see in SA and Sonic Heroes, but Robotnik actually gave a good performance in SA2. His voice is a little deeper, lower, and darker so it's MUCH better than his voices in SA and SA2. He actually has a motive throughout the game also.

*SPOILERS*

And he actually tries to KILL Sonic. Not just defeat him... KILL. A definite change of pace for a Sonic game, although Sonic does end up surviving... <_< Nonetheless, I think Tails was much worse in the 3-D games....

Mario over Cloud - Great match, but not as back and forth as you might think, as I recall. Possibly 3/4 lead changes.
Mario over Crono - Not alot of flip-flopping here, it was all about Crono trying to mount a comeback. Under 6 lead changes for sure.
Seph over MegaMan - 1 lead change? maybe?

That's '02 for you. Let's see what could challenge for the Top Ten from '03

Ganon over Tidus - Another great one. Must have been a lead change or two.
Magus over Ganon - I have updates for this somewhere, I'll get them in a sec.
Cloud over Link - Nay, this was never really in doubt.

Clearly, the Great Game Contest is still the king of the Flip-Flops.

Ok, found my Ganon/Magus stats.

http://thengamer.com/gamefaqs/03Summer/GanonVSMagusUpdates.txt

Good match, yet not a single lead change. Mags started strong with the typical CT Board Vote ownage, lost some overnight to the typical European anti-CT vote, and lost even more during the pro-Zelda Day Vote, but always maintained the slim lead.

You think a Metal Man background is going to change the minds of Ocelot fans, that a fighting background is going to change the mind of Diablo fans?

No, we think it will change the minds of people who aren't fans. Not every voter is a fan of one of the characters. Those are the people that the picture affects.

Tai is sure making me feel better about Sin losing, because frankly, his "analyses" (if you want to call them that) are among the worst I've ever seen, not to mention some of the most annoying.

Which is even more of a reason I love Hacked. People like him will never be allowed in there.

Yeah, I mean, I got modded for calling him a sore loser on Ridley/Diablo. I mean, damn... if he can't take the truth in the face... it's like he's the new Blackscar or something.

Oh, and Ansem's been rising big for the last hour or two. This match is over, and Ansem should win quite big, compared to the first five hours at least. Still, that was the crappiest contest performance since Gordon Freeman lost to Tina Armstrong three years ago.

There are exceptions to that, Slow. People shouldn't be warned and suspended because someone ran around and decided to violation hunt because they had nothing better to do. There's a good reason why no violation hunter has ever been named a mod (as far as I know, at least).

Seriously, you read what CJayC thinks of violation hunters in the MBH topic. There's as bad for a board as anyone else.

I don't think there are any stars of the round. This round went exactly as I expected it to. Every single match... We just need to see this next round to see where everyone's REAL strength is, rather than relative. I didn't THINK that Diablo would beat Ridley as bad as he did, but it didn't surprise me. I've been playing Xenosaga and LOOKING for a reason why Albedo would give Bison any competition. Didn't find any....

My star would have to be Bowser, just for getting the blowout that he has so deserved....

For Round 2...

For my sake, hopefully M. Bison is the star. It couldn't hurt to help my bracket along the way as well.

If not, I'd go with Kefka. Every other match seems to be an apparent victory. However, Kefka's angel pic will give him glory and maybe even a winning percentage he has never seen before. Maybe not overly impressive, but it's a good moment for Kefka.

Turd will be, eh... Ocelot. Possible loss against wily after pre-contest hype.

I was looking at Soul Calibur/Kingdom Hearts, and today's match followed a very similar pattern. Ansem's stalling with CATS and eventual surge into the lead are eerily parallel with Kingdom Hearts. Now granted it took far longer for Kingdom Hearts to actually come back than it did Ansem due to Soul Calibur being >>> CATS, but the pattern is still there.

The main thing is the mid to late afternoon vote. That's when Kingdom Hearts was pulling in 100 votes per update for a time (as well as when our site layout was changed), as well as when Ansem started pushing his lead to above 52% and beyond. Good stuff.

I was going by the winners so far.... If I went by your criteria, then CATS would be my star of the round for going against the TURD of the round. But out of the winners, none really shined to me....

And I see nothing with the name Twilight Princess... It implies that Zelda may be VERY involved with the story, as seen by the pic of Zelda with the sword. Ocarina of Time was actually quite generic in my opinion....

Nothing tops A Link to the Past though....

After thinking about it for more than 30 seconds, I've changed my mind. The title isn't bad at all; most of us are just worried about how it will affect sales. And the truth is, it won't. Maybe if this were another game, it would be a slight problem. But this is the Legend of ****ing Zelda. There's nothing to worry about.

Slowflake said (in response to Tai):

Now, Sin, or "Who Cares" as you call him, got 6 board nominations in my nominations topic, which is very little for my topic, and got a 6th seed, which probably means he got casual support. People CARE. YOU might or might not, but people CARE!

If you remember, I made that exact point for Ansem yesterday. Look where that got him.

actually, Ansem got a fair amount of Board nominations. he was around 25th or 26th place, so he still would have made the cut. it looks like he did receive a bit of a casual nomination boost, but not nearly as much as Vergil, Nemesis, and Sin.

Ansem will get at least quadrupled. Count on it.

i'm actually counting on Ansem doing better than that; probably closer to 25%. i honestly believe CATS' vastly improved match pic helped him considerably today. i'm willing to bet that his X-stat value will be much higher than it was in the Summer Contests.

I hope that all those people who ever in any way thought of the idea of a CATS "ceiling"--or ceiling for any cult character--are now sufficiently embarrassed with themselves.

I have in the past called this so-called theory "silly" and "ridiculous", and today I will call it preposterous. It is all just a matter of strength.

To ever have thought such a concept had any validity was absurd and embarrassing. There was never any excuse for it.

As for star of the round, that isn't necessarily the mirror of turd...don't see how CATS can be the star of the round. We have no reason to believe he performed any better than he always has. It's Ansem that has failed to live up to expectations.

Wow, I just saw Heroic Mario's announcement of the Zelda title. No offense, but I can't believe people are pegging it as a tribute to Nintendo's kiddie image. What's so kiddie about "Twilight"?

twilight - The time of the day when the sun is just below the horizon, especially the period between sunset and dark.

What's wrong with Dark Princess? It's implying that there may be something dark and mysterious about the Zelda in this game. I thought the name kinda fit the dark atmosphere that Nintendo wants to portray this new Zelda in. It may not be THAT dark a name, but I see nothing wrong with it.

Either way, I don't see what all the fuss is over a simple name.

Nintendo has a reputation among casual gamers for being oriented towards a younger audience. That isn't true, except for most new games with Mario in them, but it's their current image. With me, not liking the title was a fan's reaction, thinking that Nintendo wasn't doing anything to help get rid of that image. Then I changed my mind.

As for star of the round, that isn't necessarily the mirror of turd...don't see how CATS can be the star of the round. We have no reason to believe he performed any better than he always has. It's Ansem that has failed to live up to expectations.

Half the board, heck, half this topic subscribed to the theory that CAT had a ceiling. That there was no way he'd ever be able to break 15,000 votes. Ansem has failed to live up to expectations, true, but CATS himself has beaten the lviing daylights out of what people expected of him. As he's already nearing 25000 votes and not showing any signs of suddenly tanking, CATS could quite possibly double his past record.

With the mostly unsurprising contest so far, CATS being the round 1 star doesnt even seem a question.

CATS's pic isn't why he's doing vastly better than expected. Also, while I was a believer of the CATS-ceiling, I wasn't sure if Ansem would be weak enough to make him hit it; I knew CATS could still get well over 15,000 votes. CATS has absolutely stolen the show so far guys, even though he's gonna lose. The only way he doesn't take Star Of The Round in my mind is if Master Hand beats Kuja or goes toe-to-toe with him. Meanwhile, I'm not sure if Ansem deserves the Turn award or Sigma more.

The idea behind the CATS ceiling was that most of the upper characters would be able to blow him out similarly. Although it can't necessarily be proven because he's gone against the top two characters in the round. But the idea was no matter it be a Ryu, Squall, Bowser, or Yoshi, nearly all of the popular characters would be able to get 80% plus on CATS. Of course weak characters won't necessarily do so....

i think CATS received quite a bit of help from his picture for two reasons:

#1) there is no way anyone would recognize the eggplant picture of CATS as being the "all your base" guy if they didn't know that his name was CATS. his face, however, is all over all of the "all your base" videos and pictures.

#2) also, CATS face pic actually isn't bad at all. his anime look is definitely cooler looking than Ansem and his receding hairline, IMO. that pic is far more likely to draw in some casual votes than the blob that is usually his pic.

Apparently having the name of a female royalty figure is fine, but when you include her title with it, it's going too far. You can call it the Legend of Zelda, but don't call her PRINCESS Zelda.

In the June issue of EGM, the interviewer asked the question as to what the wolf in the second trailer meant. More specifically, if Link was a werewolf. Eiji Aonuma simply said "Hmmm...sorry, confidential". In other words: he didn't confirm nor deny.

The title is now leading to rumours that Zelda is a werewolf (Twilight Princess is referencing her, as she becomes a princess at the twilight of day). Again, this is speculation. But look at the logo above, you can see a wolf behind the title. This is evidence that the wolf we've seen means something big.

While I agree that the game will sell as well and still be as kick-ass, I think it would kick just a little more ass if the name were better. I don't think Twilight Princess is a bad name, but I think it would have a better image if it had a better name. Of course, if that speculation is correct in that Zelda transforms into a wolf or something at twilight, that would kick a TON of ass. I'm ready to see lots of asskicking when this game comes out.

It's probably debatable in terms of favoritism between Meryl and Sniper Wolf, but Meryl plays a much bigger role in the first MGS than SW does.

*possible MGS/MGS2 s-p-o-i-l-e-r-s*

To compare her to MGS2 if you've played it, I'd compare her role as a mix of Pliskin and Emma. She's like your side-kick that you have to find and protect, and the two different endings involve what happens to her regarding life or death.

*end s-p-o-i-l-e-r-s*

I'd take Meryl, personally, over Sniper Wolf, though I think SW would have more people say she's their favorite from the game.

Didn't think of Sheena, but frankly I'd be surprised if she made it over Collette if a ToS character made it at all. While Sheena may be considered by you, or even the whole board if it were the case, to be a better cahracter the masses still tend to nominate and vote accordingly to screen time. While that rule doesn't hold true in all cases, it really takes a strong case to overturn it

And as for Lara, well, it does make the first match interesting to some people. Apparently we love seeing "underdogs" winning (Diablo over Ridley, Crono over Snake), and theres a small chance of that happening. The real reasoning for it was more tangible, however. Fact of the matter is, no matter how much hate she's been getting (and I know I give my fair share of it to her) she's still amoung only 4 females to make the 2k4 contest. She's slipping quickly enough that I could actually see her as far down as 4th or 5th seed, but until this year's contest proves me differently I'll assume that the casuals love to nominate her.

Triforce Division: Round 1 - Match 15 – (3)Dr. Robotnik vs. (6)Sin

Moltar’s Analysis

Dr. Robotnik
Game/Series Known From: Sonic Series

Robotnik definitely deserves to be here, but can he make a good impact?

Sin
Game/Series Known From: Final Fantasy X

Watch out hardcore Christians, cause it’s SIN TIME!

Robotnik vs. Sin, alright, let’s get this started. Robotnik is an old-school baddie. He’s been chasing Sonic down since the Genesis era. His inventions are crazy, yet brillant. They never seem to get the job done though…oh well. Sin is a new-school villain, coming from the hugely-popular Final Fantasy X. You know, Sin *SPOILERS! SPOILERS! BUZZ BUZZ! TRUCK GO HONK!* and *DOES IT NEVER END, WHOAMG (>^_^)><(^_^<)*. Anyway, let’s begin the analyzation.

Robotnik comes from the Sonic series, which is good. In fact, it would be really good if your opponent didn’t come from a series called Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy = Instant Win in the series department. No competiton there. In the previous Contests, Robotnik has had Sonic, Shadow, Tails, and Knuckles to look after. That’s good, and it would be really good if his opponent didn’t come from a series named Final Fantasy. I’m not going to even bother naming all the FF characters that have made it into the Contest, so instead, we’ll only look at the FFX characters. That’s Tidus and Yuna. Heck, I’ll give the whole FF vs. Sonic history right here, just because I’m such a good guy

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=984 – Sonic/Tidus
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1314 – Tails/Auron
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1330 – Knuckles/Yuna
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1356 – Sonic/Aeris
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1362 – Sonic/Cloud
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1727 – Shadow/Tidus
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1732 – Knuckles/Kefka

Right now, the Sonic crew is up 4-3 over the FF crew. But now onto the important matter, Sonic vs. FFX. Sonic beat Tidus back in 2002, Knuckles beat Yuna in 2003, and Tidus beat Shadow in 2004. That means, right now, the Sonic series is leading there as well.

Ok, now for all those who say “S1N W1LL W1N C4UZ H3 IZ FR0M TEH 5QU4R3!!111!11shift!!”, let me tell you something, Sin is not a “Sephiroth” or a “Kefka”. We’ve seen lesser known FF characters lose before, and I would classify Sin as one of those. Heck, I haven’t played a single FF game, yet I know about Cloud, Aeris, Seph, Tidus, Yuna, Kefka, etc, yet I didn’t know of Sin until this Contest. Sure, I know I’m probably in the minority there, but it still says that Sin is not a huge FF name here. A win is not guaranteed for Square. In fact, I’m giving this match to Dr. Robotnik. He’s very well known, as he has been around for over a decade. Even if you don’t like the recent turn his character has made…I AM THE EGGMAN!!!, people are still going to vote for him for the Robotnik factor. Old-school Robotnik owned, and as long as that can bring him votes, along with other votes from Sonic fans, he should be able to take down Sin (Not Shenron for you GT fans).

Moltar’s Bracket Says: Robotnik will win

Moltar’s Prediction is: Robotnik 52% - Sin 48%

Ulti’s Analysis

As obvious as it may seem to go with Robotnik in this, I actually see it going in the other direction. Sin may be weaker than the weakest FFX character to have appeared in these contests (Yuna), but I don't see Robotnik coming close to Tails, either. And since Yuna is > Tails as it is, it's tough to see Robotnik doing much damage in this match. He may make it close, but this may play out as Tidus/Shadow close, rather than actually BEING close. Something just strikes me odd about Robotnik doing well for whatever reason, and if this thing comes down to Sonic vs FFX, he has even less of a chance.

Prediction: Sin with 50.79%

Soul’s Analysis

This, is by far, my hardest match to predict for. In fact, I think I changed the winner of this match three times in the last 2 hours. I have no clue who to pick really. Both sides have good arguments and
points about why they're going to win.

Robotnik is a legend. He stars in the Sonic series, a series that once was claimed to be better than Mario's series. He is the main antagonist of the series. Of course, I'm sure you guys already knew that. He also got the three seed, and was predicted to get a 1 seed before the bracket was shown. Does that mean he's one strong competitor?

Sin, on the other hand, is from FFX. He's a big blob of mass, basically. FFX was the only FF game that I have played. It was pretty interesting. My friend, who owns the game, told me that Sin is a really cool boss and will easily destroy Robotnik. Of course, this friend also failed Religion twice in a row, so take his advice for what it's worth… However, FFX is still a very strong game on this website. Tidus can defeat some solid competition on this site. Hell, he even defeated Shadow. Auron is quite strong too. But, Sin does not share the same strength, I believe. Look at him. He's a freaking blob of mass!

Then again, this is GameFAQs. I could make the main character of a FF game trip on a Coke can, and the Coke can would be able to beat half the competitors in the contest. Yeah, that's not true, I know. Anyway, as of right now, I have Sin winning. This match could go either way though. He'll win with 50.02% of the vote.

Outback’s Analysis

My name isn't Robutt!

Another match that is one of the most debated matches in this contest, and this time, it *gasp* deserves the hype! This will be the only close match in Round 1. And after being force to eat my words yesterday on my horrible CATS prediction, I'm not going to get overconfident on this one.

HOWEVER, I can say that I am confident that Robotnik will win. Sin never striked me as an epic villain, and his match pic certainly doesn't strike me as epic. I know Robotnik isn't exactly epic either, but he doesn't need to be. Sin has only appeared in one game; he has no legacy. He's not classic. Robotnik has been around since the beginning, and although he's undergone a name change, I'm positive he'll be around for years to come.

That being said, I think the more colorful of the two whales featured here will win, albeit in a close one due to the FF Mania on this site.

Robotnik 50.85% Sin 49.15%

Inviso’s Analysis

Well, there has been some talk on the board of Sin beating Robotnik based on the Final Fantasy Factor or FFF. Well…I’m here to say that there is no ****ing way in hell that will happen. Robotnik is from Sonic, a classic character with a lot of history behind him, while Sin is new, from Final Fantasy X, not to be confused with Final Fantasy X-2, which is garbage.

Now…in 2003, Knuckles of the Sonic universe faced Yuna, from FFX. Yuna is easily the third most popular character from her game, mainly due to the boost of its sequel. Knuckles defeated her, sending the blue-eyed…green-eyed…some combination-eyed girl packing. And in 2004, Shadow the Hedgehog went toe to toe with Tidus, the hero of FFX, nearly eliminating him. Sin is nowhere near the level of Yuna or Tidus, and Robotnik could easily be as high as Tails.

My Prediction: Dr. Robotnik with 61.23%

So, based on the results of the Ruin Division so far, how would you guys redo the seeds? I'm thinking something like this

(1) M. Bison
(8) Mithos
(5) Wesker
(4) Ridley
(3) Kefka
(6) Albedo
(7) Luca Blight
(2) Diablo

Maybe switch M. Bison with Diablo, or Mithos with Luca Blight, but I think this is about right, depending on what happens in the next round.

That's probably how I'd do it, but this division is pretty much:

Top Tier: Bison, Kefka, Diablo (Ridley could've been weak, in which case Diablo would be middle tier)
Middle Tier: Wesker, Ridley (could be a flop and actually be bottom tier... we never know)
Bottom Tier: Albedo, Mithos, Luca Blight

Any assignment beyond that is really just personal preference.

And Tai, six board nominations is nothing to be proud of... I managed to get Raikov seven in my nomination topic.

I do wanna take a moment and point out a lil' Four-Pack Of Fun history. I had a four-pack one day that consisted of Ratchet, CATS, Ryo, and JC Denton (I think even in that order). Ratchet was the heavy favorite, but I took CATS to win the four-pack...and I caught some hell that lasted a topic or two over that (Heroic Dr Wily comes to mind). I wonder if people would still make that same decision in that four-pack now, heh.

That's saying Raikov DOESN'T have casual support. They were equals on the board, but when the front page got their say one made it and the other didn't. Those that don't come here are at least more likely to be classified as casuals (though I'd bet there are quite a few people who don't come to the boards but take the contest rather seriously), and those people thought Sin should get in. In other words he had casual support.

People, CATS pulling 44% is not that surprising. Everyone who's filled out a bracket in the last three years knows who he is. Ansem, on the other hand, is one of the least known people in this contest, and if we take a second to study just how much fodder we have, that's sad. Throw in the fact that it's a 4/5 match, and you have fairly even prediction percentages.

OMG CATS IS WINNING 5 MINUTES INTO THE MATCH ANSEM IS THE SUCK AND HAS NO CHANCE OR SURVIVE MAKE YOUR TIME LOLOLOLOL!!!!!

Robotnik having the Board vote surprises, um, no one. It's looking pretty tragic for Sin at this point, true, but don't be surprised if by an hour in or so he hasnt knocked a decent percentage off of Robot's lead.

Both Sonic and Square are good at the day vote, but the Sonic franchise is pretty much the undisputed king of it, I believe.

Not sure if Robotnik will benefit from that though...he's not exactly Knuckles or Shadow. His appeal demographic might be slightly different.

I don't see why Kuja wouldn't take Robotnik. He's the main villain from a major Playstation era Final Fantasy game who actually has FANS! (Don't wanna sound like Tai with his OMG he's SQUARE rants. I'm kind of worried about Kuja myself. if Kefka has trouble getting 65% on Mithos and Robotnik is beating Sin as easily as he is, I have no reason to respect any FF villain besides Sephiroth in this contest until I see proof. I love Kuja and all, but if I had him in my bracket, I'd be a little worried at how strong Robotnik is looking right now. everyone seemed to expect a close match, but the more Robotnik extends his lead, the more this looks like Diablo/Ridley - a hyped match with an obvious winner early on. I don't think you can blame this kind of lead on a picture.

of course, Kuja and Sephiroth are practically the same character (highly unstable girly dude who wants to destroy the world for no good reason), so we'll see if that works to Kuja's advantage or not.

The more and more Robotnik pulls away the less confident it makes me in my Kuja>Robotnik pick in my bracket. If Bison doesn't Psycho Crusher my perfect bracket first, that's likely where it's going to fall.

Me to, I have Ocelot over Wily, Diablo over Bison, Kuja over Robotnik and Kefka over Diablo. And right now it looks like it's 4 upset picks

Comebacks typically start after a lot of stalling and 50-50 patterns for awhile. If sin is to make a push at this match, he may be about to do it. I don't think he will, but this is usually how these things start.

Even when Robotnik wins, he went from being up 65-35 to what you see now. After the bracket voters were done voting and the true popularity of the characters set in, Robotnik has barely been able to draw in the majority of the votes. That's pathetic, in my view. He's not facing anything special.

So... anyone willing to buy the theory that bracket voting is SO prevelant that the 10,000+ brackets that had CATS winning yesterday over what have had him winning in previous years were a large portion of his 15,000+ vote increase from previous years? Just throwin' it out there...

FFX has traditionally been much stronger than FFIX. Who knows, Sin might put up more of a fight than Kuja. Any thoughts?

Well, Tidus' level may be anywhere between Ganondorf and Knuckles, so it's not like we know anything. The fact that Kuja is so heavily favored is due to the fact that Sin is relatively low on the care-o-meter compared to, say, Seymour. Seymour would probably beat both Eggman and Kuja, but Sin can't do it.

So you think Vivi really had that huge of an advantage just because he looks like a traditional black mage? I sort of doubt that it really had any sort of huge impact on his votes. Is Sin sort of like Lavos in CT in the way of having very little character, but much of the game revolving around him anyways, or did he have a lot of character like Kuja?

Kuja is going to be a lot closer to FF9 than Sin is to FFX...Yes, FF9 is weaker, but it's still not a pushover, and Kuja is the Sephiroth of his game. You can point to the fact that Zidane hasnt made the contest as a sign of FF9 weakness, but I think that points more to a relative weakness than to actual weakness - the other Final Fantasies would trump it one on one, but there still is a strong fanbase out there, and Kuja will benefit from that.

Just look at Vivi - there must be quite a bit of support for FF9 for him to have ended up where he is. I still don't buy the "Black Mage Factor" as having any real level of significance - I mean, look at where the "OMG TEH NINJA!!!" factor has left some of our other past contestants. The look of Vivi may have drawn in a handful of extra votes, but the bulk of his votes are legitimate support, and Kuja is going to take that to the bank and beat Not Kuja senseless.

Tai's problem was simply that he was out-of-touch with the Sonic fanbase, and couldn't grasp how popular it was. I made the same mistake two years ago when I said, "Who's Dante?"

Anyways, I don't like Robotnik's percentage. It needs to be higher, though I think he still has a very good chance at beating Kuja.

The lower I see Robotnik's percentage drop, the more confidence I have in Kuja. I see no reason to believe that he's this close to Sin. Saying FFX is more popular than FFIX is a given, but it's hardly a justification for Sin to be close to Kuja. Even accounting for any possible SFF against Super Mario World, I doubt Sonic 2 is anything more than mid-tier. I guess that means Sonic and company can't be very strong, right?

Well I guess there are enough "stumpy's" out there to make Robotnik win. But the next generation is coming on, so when it does, the newer games and more innovated titles will rule over the old school.

Wow. Never thought the PSTools could go this far.

What an odd match. It's like Sin's just barely keeping up, keeping a foot in the door and praying for an FF rally...I still think it's anyone's game, because at this point neither one seems like they'll be able to hit 40,000. It just depends on whether or not there's enough of a voter base out there for Sin to tap in to.

Yep. The best try where the losing character actually took the lead was Frog/MC, when MC was 2400 down. Eggman's broken that by now.

Speaking of which, we should get some idea tomorrow if hype is really all it's cracked up to be from a contest standpoint. SSBO. Master Hand. 'nuff said.

Any indicators of whether Kuja is stronger than Sin or not? Other than nominations and the resulting seeds, is there any reason to believe that Kuja is stronger than Sin?
FFX has traditionally been much stronger than FFIX. Who knows, Sin might put up more of a fight than Kuja. Any thoughts?

I've said for awhile I think the winner of Robotnik/Sin would beat the winner of Kuja/MH, and I have Robotnik > MH in my bracket. I'd barely take Sin over Kuja simply due to the larger game fanbase and being THE FF game of the PS2 (much like what FF7 was for the PSX, except to a smaller degree and FFX hasn't has as many FF games to compete with for that title). I think Kuja fans are likely more loyal and more vocal, but I don't believe they'll outnumber what Sin draws. To be fair though, this is little more than gut feeling speaking.

I thought the only FFIX related thing to ever be in these contests was Vivi. Didn't he perform around Tituses level?

Depends on which theory you buy that involves him; he ranges from being a lil' above Luigi to a lil' below Bowser.

I mean, look at where the "OMG TEH NINJA!!!" factor has left some of our other past contestants.

THAT factor was always dumb; many people prefer pirates, and look where Vyse is. The anti-stealth bastards.....

Hardly. I was a proponent of that factor, and we never got to see it in action. That was the whole point about so many people throwing fits about Hayabusa's pic, remember?

Regardless, even if the ninja factor is absolutely nothing (which is very possible), it is pretty silly to believe that being a black mage didn't bring Vivi a good number of votes beyond the FFIX fanbase.

Perhaps that is where Jill is under-rated in the stats (if she actually is); Ryu H. under-performed against Jill just enough to barely win, then under-performed again to Sora enough to lose badly. This would have to take into consideration that Ryu H. is noticably stronger than Jill if he got his NG pic.

True if CJay always used those particular pictures of him. However, if he got pictures from the game he's definitely most well-known from, then it may have only been under-performing in two different matches. Tidus has under-performed in two matches before, and his strength is anything but certain. Therefore, it's not fair to say that's just their strength.

If I'm wrong about Sin > Kuja (which I very well may be), I fear too. If not, well, I don't, heh...I'm worried about Kuja in both of his next matches though. I still stand by my Master Hand pick in a close match (I'm guessing about 52%, maybe a lil' less), but I wouldn't be surprised to see that pick go wrong. I still don't think Kuja will be SO much stronger than Sin to beat Dr. Robotnik though, even if Robo/Sin is already close...but what this depends on is my believe that Kefka > Sin > Kuja; I don't know how far away I'd have Kuja from Kefka yet, but we'll see how that holds.....
