*RE3 SPOILERS*
No. Jill's mission is simply to get the hell out of Raccoon City; Nemmy stands in her way. The focal point of the game is not to kill Nemesis, it's to escape. Now, this eventually involves killing Nemmy, but it's more because he's a persistent bastard that keeps blowing up escape routes than any story focus on killing him.

Ocelot Vs. Nemesis was my biggest surprise. Not to mention a downer.
Liquid Snake is practically only in one game, and performs damn good.
Ocelot is prominent in all 3 games and slides by a monster who can only
say one word.
If only he was a Snake clone!

Diablo is a huge name that everyone knows. The Devil himself will of course get votes.
Though I have no idea why Ridley would get support. And Nemesis was only in one Resident Evil game, which also happened to sell more poorly in comparison to the first 2 games. I think it only sold about 400,000.

Resident Evil games have generally sold better than any Mega Man game,
but you don't hear anybody saying Wily couldn't take Nemesis down.

Because the sum total of sales from the games Wily is in heavily dwarf the number of sells from the lone Resident Evil 3.
Not that sales matter that much, but if you're only in one game, and that one games sells half a million, it's nearly impossible to get enough support to get a lot done.

There's less of a RE fanbase here than a MM fanbase, to boot. However,
Nemesis would still likely make Wily sweat some, somehow.

At the 10:50 mark, this match has 38299 votes. To compare to other matches at this same time:
Bowser/Pyramid Head - 30820
Ocelot/Nemesis - 31287
Sephiroth/Ramirez - 40961
Liquid/Tenpenny - 30712
It's fallen behind Sephiroth/Ramirez, but it's still on pace to easily become the 2nd highest total.

Or Lavos/Mother Brain
*raises hand*. I really didn't think Ridley/Diablo was going to be close. I had more trouble picking Lavos/Mother Brain (I got it wrong too... :( ) and Sin/Robotnik.
And please quit bringing up Diabloii.net. No way are they bringing in 5000 votes. I'd be surprised if they brought in 4 digit votes.

Did Doma make a topic of this post? He really should.
Just did.
With regards to Diabloii.net, I don't think it would be unreasonable to attribute about 1000 votes from them, and about 80% of those for the Lord of Terror. Not chump change, but nothing that would massively affect the contest.
---
Sure, Sephiroth's going to win the Spring Contest. But how will he fare in a real duel? Find out at www.rpgdl.com!

I'm not saying it's the reason Diablo's winning, I just thought it'd be
interesting to point out in case people wanted to accurately speculate
how much it is helping him (which, in a match with this much debate, is
probably coming soon enough anyways). Besides, my stance is this:
DiabloII.net is likely going to help Diablo in every match, so this is
his actual strength here to me. I'm not going to take credit away from
Mega Man or Zero for having Planet Mega Man link to them in every
match. Only when one-time links are used (like Frog/MC or Mario/Cloud,
for example) should they not be credited as their true strength.

Plus, Ulti claimed MC got about 5,000 votes against Frog in 2k4. I'm
curious to see how many more votes he thinks Diablo got from a bigger
site over a more hyped match and Diablo has an online fanbase (which
Halo didn't at the time).
Sidenote: Diablo just passed the 6,000-lead point.

minute they did. And it looks like they'll be putting a link throughout

How many people come here to look for FAQs about a fighting game?
How many come here to look for FAQs about an RPG game?
Diablo is going to beat Bison.
That's the worst logic I have ever heard. Bison is a far more mainstream and well-known character over the likes of Ridley. Given that Bison smashed Albedo in the previous round, it would be crazy to think Diablo is guaranteed to beat Bison.

And Ulti, it's pretty dumb to shoot down my arguments now. Hindsight is cheap.
You did see me agree with your post a couple posts later, right? Your argument against Diablo was fine; it just happens to be an argument that can be aimed at Ridley as well.
As for all the people whing about diabloii.net, shut up. Diablo broke 56% before they posted that link, and as of right now, he's.... a little under 57%. Blaming a website for a beating that was quite clearly going to happen anyway makes you a sore loser on top of being immature as hell.

Who's whining about Diabloii.net? I think it is more than safe to say
that once the link went up, Ridley's chances of a comeback where done,
if they weren't already. I have no problem with the link being posted
because I knew it would be there before the match even started.

Assuming Ridley finishes with 43.08% on Diablo, Diablo's going to be
consistant in our contest, Mega Man was properly adjusted, and Diablo =
Kefka (I know it's alot, but for our purposes, work with it), Ridley
would get 18.27% on Link (a tad under Max Payne) and would get 23.13%
on Samus before SFF.

Ending the 1440 mile drive from New York to Louisiana, I come back to
see that Diablo hasn't disappointed me too much (I was hoping for 60%
personally), although I was kind of hoping he would win this match
without any outside help whatsoever (just so people would recognize his
strength).
It looks like of the two sites that can provide a meaningful difference in Diablo's totals, only one is currently linking here (although the other couldn't link here even if they wanted to considering their site seems to be having some problems). I'd actually expect the site that's not linking to here to have a greater impact though, even if it is the scum of the Blizzard community.
The Diabloii.net link hasn't been up too long though (the news was posted 9:52 PST according to the site).

Right conclusion, bad argument. The fact that the percentage hasnt changed, along with the fact that this match is getting voted in like crazy, would suggest that if nothing else it has stopped a percentage comeback for Ridley. As we've all said, Diablo would be winning without it, but on a site that big its all but guaranteed to pull at least a thousand or so votes for Diablo during the course of the day.
Which means, i dunno, Diablo should be at 55% instead. Big Whoop.

the match that was expected to be the biggest, closest, most important
first round match has only the second largest vote total at this time
so far in the contest and people are saying diabloii.net is influencing
the vote? you've got to be kidding me. i would think that a character
like diablo would pull people from all over the pc gaming world onto
gamefaqs today just for this poll. maybe that'll change tonight, but
consider the vote totals so far to be low.

Correct. You can buy it on DVD or on the PSP (UMD format).

I dunno...while I had suspected Ridley to be on Tails's level (which is
likely too high, granted), I think being below Max Payne is too low for
now. I do think the 23.13% on Samus pre-SFF sounds good though...so,
right now, I'll put Ridley at a lil' short of Duke Nukem and say he
gets 19% on Link; that'd make him get 24.05% on Samus pre-SFF.
From there, Ridley would get 44.79% on Kefka and Diablo would get 52.02% on Kefka. Doesn't sound that bad, really...and then there's Bison to worry about, heh.

I forgot to mention: methinks the link won't be helpin' Diablo alot
until later tonight, so it makes sense that Diablo's only gained almost
a percent right now since it stabilized early this morning.

That is true. The link will probably have it's biggest effect with
around 4-5 hours to go in the poll. I wouldn't be surprised to see
Diablo get it up to 57.5% there.

You know, the fact that the link doesn't just say "Vote for Diablo!"
disappoints me. I was hoping to see the possible effects of not telling
them that it's Diablo the character instead of Diablo the game.

Diablo was taking Ridley in the early bracket-voting hours without the
link, so with the link, I think 58% is abetter-yet-conservative pick
for Diablo...especially conservative if he's anything like Starcraft
was.
