Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 122

well, I'm definitely a hardcore metroid player (see my sig) and Ridley doesn't appeal to me that much either. if you ask me, the most appealing aspect of Ridley is his super metroid fight - he's quite challenging there. Ridley was a joke in fusion and quite possibly worse in zero mission. I don't know about prime since I don't have a gamecube.

Ridley whipped my ass in Prime, but he's still little more than a recurring boss in the series.

Hey, is he mentioned by name in Fusion? That would make it three games where he's actually given a name. Not that it matters, obviously.

the only thing mentioned in Fusion are the X, I believe. I don't think that's really important, though; you never see mother brain's name mentioned either and everyone knows damn well who mother brain is. name recognition should only matter if you've got a spectacularly crappy picture to go by.... which you do for Ridley, of course.

TRE:
Mother Brain made a "comeback" of about 5% on Lavos and if Diablo acts like Starcraft it's night vote is even more skewed than Chrono Trigger's is. Things are still pretty hopeless for Ridley though.

This is the one situation where Diablo != Starcraft for real :)

Diablo should get the day vote. Ridley is too obscure. (I don't expect anyone to try and debate that point anymore) He was the huge board favorite; the masses shouldn't care for him as much.

Lopen:
I'm predicting he wins with 54% after the "nintendo day vote".

Ridley won't benefit from this. He's not mainstream in any sense. Diablo is.

transience:
you never see mother brain's name mentioned either and everyone knows damn well who mother brain is.

That's exactly why I expect Mother Brain to be much closer to Ridley than many said. Mother Brain was mentioned all up in Nintendo Power and cartoons and stuff. People know her.

I fully expect Diablo to finish with 60+%. My risk-neutral prediction for this match was Diablo with 60%, but as I posted in the Oracle topic, I just couldn't pick that because it was too risky.

And I still think that Diablo>Bison, thought not by much, and do think Bison has a good shot to win.

But anyone who says that Bison vs. Diablo is clear-cut, either way, is deluding themselves.

It's not so much the "Nintendo day vote" really, it's just Diablo's vote weakening that I see. I mean, Bison lost ground during the day... wassapwitdat?

I really should've said my original prediction % was 54% Diablo. Now I'm not thinking Ridley can pull it back down so much, but I do think he'll pull the % down a bit from where it ends up at 10am est or so.

It means that a new fanbase will wake up and another one will go back to sleep. For example XboX is much more popular in the US than in Europe, so it's no wonder why Ryu Hayabusa and Masterchief could make a comeback when the day vote arrived.

Diablo is now over 2,000 votes ahead and his lead and percentage are both still on the rise. The debates for this match were fierce, and you ridley people didn't exactly take any more of a risk then us with diablo in our bracket did. I'm hoping that he's strong enough to take out M. Bison and kefka or my bracket will still be screwed in the long run.

w00t!!! Diablo is still rolling up the percentage points!! if this keeps up, my oracle pick of 59% will look verrrrry nice. and apparently, the vote total IS matching Sephiroth's match, so far. so it looks like Ridley isn't all that weak either.

btw - assuming Diablo hangs in there, i believe Diablo will be the first character this contest to win without winning the initial board vote. even Sephiroth had Rameriz right from the start. Diablo was actually down for about 2 or 3 minutes.

I don't think Diabloii.net realizes that there are other characters in the contest. It mentioned something abot a field of 8, and then insinuating that bison would be the "semi-finals"

My guess is they took the Ruin Division to be the whole bracket.

What he said. It's a sad day when other characters have to rely on other sites to win. I bet all those people that e-mailed DiabloII.net were bracket voters..or something like that. :-(

And then some for M. Bison if Diablo happens to win today.

No way. Diablo's going down against Bison. Diablo's performance today indicates to me that he's only slightly stronger than Lavos. In other words, he's not very strong.

This, of course, is assuming that Ridley is stronger than Mother Brain, which I'm not convinced about anymore.
