1,600 short of Sigma/Andross? Ouch; didn't realize that. That makes this match slightly less impressive, but gotta give M. Bison credit for impressin' me today still.

Well, I'm out for the night. Good job to the troopers staying up to see the start of Ridley/Diablo. I'll probably wake up early to check.

All the hype and pre-match discussion...ends soon.

That makes this match slightly less impressive

No it doesn't. I thought we went over that vote totals are not indicative of strength, especially when there are two characters who are closer together in strength over the large margin in strength like we're seeing today.

That's why I said slightly, then restated that I was still impressed with M. Bison's performance today. At that mark though, Albedo/Bison was almost 6,000 votes behind Kefka/Mithos, and Kefka's been in general (barely) considered to be the favorite since day one. That's slightly less impressive in my book.

a quick recap for those who were wondering how it went during the downtime:

Ridley took a really, really early lead for like a minute. after that, it was all Diablo as it slowly got off to a 150 vote lead. for the next 30 or so minutes, the lead just sat at 150 votes until, suddenly, the lead just got bigger. and bigger. and bigger.

there goes my bracket, it looks like.

I have one last thing to say about Ridley/Diablo:

DIABLO. THE. GAME. SERIES. IS. NOT. FACING. RIDLEY.

DIABLO THE BOSS IS FACING RIDLEY.

Some people just don't seem to get it. The only real arguments I've seen in Diablo's favor are box recognition (easily countered with Duke Nukem and the fact that the game for which he appeared on the box was released in 1996), Diablo II being on the Top 50 FAQs, and comparisons to StarCraft.

This is not the game series Diablo. Remember the guy you fight at the end of the games? Maybe not? Yeah, well that's the guy who's in the match.

Score-Brackets-% Right
10-----1943-----72.2593927
9------4801-----66.0487398
8------6606-----67.8928247
7------5720-----66.5209790
6------3441-----65.5332752
5------1468-----60.4223433
4------492------61.5853659
3------128------59.3750000
2------45-------55.5555556
1------44-------50.0000000
0------60-------20.0000000

The top scores do the best once again.

Seven people fell off the top 50. Alucinor, Plenipotentiary, gotspork, souldiver84, Sir_Alex, sladeviper and the former #1 theohfennsivone. Diablo seems to be doing pretty well so I'll probably be joining these people along with many others tommorow.

Mother Brain made a "comeback" of about 5% on Lavos and if Diablo acts like Starcraft it's night vote is even more skewed than Chrono Trigger's is. Things are still pretty hopeless for Ridley though.

I didn't expect this to be close, Diablo's doing only a little better than I thought he would. I'm predicting he wins with 54% after the "nintendo day vote".

But it's only because Ridley is just that weak. I'm still not worried about Bison taking Diablo out next round.

Remember all of those "Diablo is nothing but a boss you fight and few people actually care about him" arguments that Phediuk was giving against Diablo's chances? It was a good argument, but it also applies to Ridley. He is mentioned by name within a Metroid game twice in the entire series, and for the most part, he's a no-name boss that isn't memorable to anyone not a Metroid fan. To the average player, he's just a pelican with a big tail that you beat up on a few times.

You're asking a no-name boss to come back from what is almost a 1000 vote lead against Diablo. I'd be beyond shocked if Ridley made a game of this. I love the hell out of him, but I'm also a hardcore Metroid fan. Most people aren't, and by transition, most people don't know or cre about Ridley at all.

I think the prediction percentage for Bison has been understated. I did expect it to be lower than Wesker but jumping up to ~2/3 is quite impressive. His bracket support for the next round will be just as impressive as his showing yesterday...

which spells bad news for my bracket.

I consider myself one step down from a hardcore Metroid fan, and I really don't care that much about Ridley. In Super Metroid (the best one), he was quite possibly the least interesting boss battle of them all. Kraid, Mother Brain, and that dude in Maridia were all more interesting. Heck, even that plant had the twilight zone music going on.

Go ahead... kick the poor dinosaur when he's down. Well, I will!
