It is obvious that Wesker is far weaker than Nemesis... You don't need to look any farther than the vote totals to tell you that...

Some out there are toting M. Bison like he's going to be some force. The only reason he could have a chance at winning the Ruin Division is because Kefka sucks. I don't have the calculations in front of me, but I believe Kefka and Ken Masters are close in the rankings. So M. Bison could take that division, but I can't see him stronger than Ken. And even if he did make the Final Four, well, he's making Ganondorf very happy with the impending blowout.

Wesker couldn't get 60% with the last night vote, so I would imagine that he won't be able to do it with the late vote tonite either. He has from now until about, what, 8-9 PST, before we get back to 'night' voting tendencies?
---
From: Tatsumaki Senpuu | Posted: 5/12/2005 2:53:32 PM | Message Detail
Well of course. The only reason this division isn't guaranteed a winner is because how weak everyone is going to end up being. When the #1 seed is weak as hell, you know the division isn't exactly a tribute to strength.

to whoever was saying that noone would like Nemesis more than Wesker after playing Resident Evil, i will openly admit that after playing RE1 and RE2 i didn't care about Wesker at all. the Tyrant, on the other hand, scared the **** out of me on more than one occasion. and yeah, the Tyrant is basically the same enemy as Nemesis. so yeah, i guess i do like Nemesis more than Wesker because i definitely thought the Tyrant was a much better villain than Wesker.

and i'm saying that Nemesis is definitely stronger than Wesker. i mean, come on - Nemesis finished with 35051 votes. at almost 16 hours in, Wesker only has 26981 total votes. he has to make up another 8000 votes in the last 8 hours of the poll to even match the vote total Nemesis managed in a losing effort with only 35% of the brackets behind him AND against a much tougher opponent. there is no way Wesker is as strong as Nemesis.

Both Mithos and Wesker are between Conker and Sam Fisher, according to last year's stats. Wesker would beat Mithos with less than 51%... o_O

Luca is, well, at Luca's level, that being barely above CATS.

Assuming the adjusted 2k4 stats are right and that Wesker = Kefka, Luca (who's currently goin' 60-40 with Wesker) suffered enough of that RPG SFF to jump from being between Terry Bogard and Earthworm Jim (12.35%) to being between unadjusted Jak and Conker (16.98%).

No way that's happenin'...and even if it did, today's vote totals are total crap. Kefka'd still have a significant advantage. We all know this now, however, and it didn't even need to be said.

I've decided to make a list of how prominent each villain in their respective games. Note that I'm skimming through FAQs for the ones I'm less familiar with, so I may be off on a few of them.

*spoilers, obviously*

Bowser: Umm, yeah, probably the most well-known video game villain of all time. He's the final boss in 7 of the 10 Mario platformers, and he either appears or is a playable character in almost all of the spinoff games.

Pyramid Head: From what I can tell, there's two boss fights against him and he appears regularly throughout Silent Hill 2.

Sigma: He's the final boss in every MMX game...and to be honest, he's not much more than that.

Andross: Final boss in the first three Star Fox games. Is mentioned regularly throughout SF64. Appears as two trophies in SSBM.

Ocelot: Appears on several occasions in all three MGS games. Is also a boss fight.

Nemesis: From a brief FAQ skim, I can tell that he's a very similar case to Pyramid Head: two boss fights, appears periodically throughout RE3.

Dr. Wily: Final boss in all eight original series MM games. Like Sigma, he doesn't appear much aside from that.

Ultros: There's four boss fights against him during FFVI, and he appears as a receptionist in the World of Ruin.

Sephiroth: Aside from the lengthy Kalm flashback, he appears briefly a few times throughout Disc 1 of FFVII. Is MIA in Disc 2. Is mentioned regularly. He is the final boss.

Ramirez: Appears several times throughout Skies of Arcadia, but is a minor character until you near the end of the game. He is the final boss.

Vergil: Okay, from what I can tell, Vergil does not make a true appearance in the first DMC. He doesn't even seem to be mentioned in DMC2. There are three boss fights against him in DMC3, and he is the final boss.

Ghaleon: From reading FAQs for LSSSC, I can assume that Ghaleon starts out as an ally, but is then revealed to be evil later on in the game. He then appears several more times before you fight him as the final boss.

Lavos: Playing through the game "normally", he's mentioned a lot, but rarely appears. You fight him twice. He is the final boss.

Mother Brain: Final boss of three Metroid games...and that's about it.

Liquid Snake: Appears several times throughout MGS and is fought twice. He is the final boss.

Officer Tenpenny: From what I can tell, he's the closest thing to a "final boss" in San Andreas, but you never directly fight him.

Kefka: Appears multiple times as Gestahl's villainous sidekick throughout the World of Balance in FFVI. He becomes the main villain in the World of Ruin. He is the final boss.

Mithos: Is mentioned regularly throughout Tales of Symphonia, but until the second disc, he barely appears at all. You fight him four times, and he is the final boss-and yes, having him in this contest is a huge spoiler.

Luca Blight: I've never played Suikoden II, so I am once again relying on the FAQs for this. It seems there's only one fight against Luca, and he dies well before the end of the game. He does seem to be mentioned a lot before that, though.

Wesker: He appears in RE, REmake, RE: Code Veronica, and is a playable character in RE4. Oddly, though, you never actually fight him.

Albedo: It seems he appears multiple times throughout the original Xenosaga, but none of the walkthroughs mention him by name until, like, three quarters of the way through. He is the second-to-last boss in the first game. Seems to be the same situation in Episode II, but he's the final boss.

M. Bison: Is a boss in SFII, and is playable from SFII Turbo onwards.

Ridley: Is a boss in 5 Metroid games, and makes appearances at the beginning of Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. He never appears as a final boss, unless you count the robot in Zero Mission.

Diablo: From what I've been told, he's mentioned regularly throughout both games, but only actually appears as the final boss.

Ganon: Final boss in 6 Zelda games. Is mentioned throughout Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Wind Waker. Also appears on the Game Over screen of Zelda II.

Giygas: He's mentioned a few times throughout Earthbound, but only appears as the final boss.

Ansem: From what I can tell, he's the final boss of Kingdom Hearts, and not much else.

CATS: Easily the most minor character in this contest. He appears in the intro of Zero Wing, says a half dozen lines, and is MIA otherwise.

Dr. Robotnik: He's the boss of almost every zone of every Sonic game (well, the 2D ones, anyway.) Aside from Bowser, probably the most well-known villain in the contest.

Sin: From what I've been told, Sin is just a shell and has no personality or dialogue. He's a boss fight near the end of FFX.

Kuja: Appears multiple times throughout FFIX, and is fought twice. He is the second-to-last boss.

Master Hand: the boss of SSB's Story mode, and SSBM's Classic mode.

Right; I assumed that both for fun and for purposes of completely shutting down any hope of Wesker > Kefka and/or that there was much RPG SFF against Luca if there was still any of either sentiment left.

Yes, Sin is basically FFX's version of Lavos, though more present in the storyline and contains a very cool character in its guts.

I hope my list helps people know a bit more about the villains they aren't familiar with.

Out of all the villains in the contest, only Wesker, CATS, and Tenpenny are never directly fought.

Along with those characters, Pyramid Head, Ultros, Luca Blight, Ridley, Sin, and Kuja have never appeared as a final boss.

In other words, 24 out of 32 characters in this contest are final bosses.

Also, about Wesker...what makes him so villainous, exactly?

RE SERIES SPOILERS!

He's singlehandedly responsible for everything in the RE universe, because he's Wesker. Specifically, though, he operates behind the scenes in RE0 (you see him in a couple of cutscenes), but he's as confused as you are about the events taking place. In RE, he starts off as your commanding officer and you talk to him quite a bit; naturally he turns on you at the end of the game and gives you the Tyrant to play with. He also manages to get stabbed through the chest by the Tyrant, live, and then teleport out of the mansion before it blows up. Because he's Wesker. He's more or less MIA in 2 or 3, and he returns as Uber!Wesker in CV and plays a pivotal role in the last half of the game. In which he regularly defies the laws of physics. In RE4, Ada and Krauser mention him a few times throughout the game (he's their employer), and you get to see him after you beat the game if you beat Assignment Ada or play as him in the Mercenaries if you can unlock him.

Basically, if something bad happens in the series, it's usually Wesker's doing. He also has those sunglasses.
