Before today, I would have taken Kefka. Right now, I'd probably take Jill, but it would be a damn close match with her and Kefka.

I would take Kefka over Jill. I don't see how her presence in the division suddenly locks it up when she is so incredibly close to Kefka as is. What, are people thinking Kefka is weaker because of this performance or something? Honestly, Tales of Symphonia's popularity extends far beyond simply board 8. I don't see how this wasn't expected.

I tend to disbelieve the overall increase for the RE series because of RE4. What makes 4 so successful is that it fixes the multitude of problems present in it's predecessors, to the point where it is almost painful to play the 5 games (0, 1, 2, 3, CV) that came before it. Case in point, I have a friend that has refused the play the RE series because if it's terrible controls; I persuaded him to borrow RE4 and he fell in love with it. He asked the borrow the REmake and gave up trying to play it after 10 minutes, because of the terrible controls. This is anecdotal, obviously, but I would assume that it's pretty common.

The only summer contest characters worth mentioning that would get a boost worth mentioning from RE4 are Leon and maybe Wesker, because he's so damned good in Mercenaries.

That's exactly what I'm doing here. Even if Jill were ranked ahead of Kefka, I would not take her over him.

Even with Jill ranked under Kefka I'm not sure I'd take him over her. Ive seen what he can and can't do, and I don't think he can beat Jill. If not for my change of heart in the last few days I'd blindly accept that Kefka is where the adjusted stats put him, but I don't and I won't unless he does to Wesker whats he's supposed to.

And for those who doubt, while 4 may not get people into the series as a whole it does bring back old fans of the series to the site. People who have played it for a long time now have a reason to just happen to be here while otherwise they wouldn't.

Yeah; like somebody said a week or two ago, when the new LoZ game hits, expect an increase of LoZ fans in general and even Nintendo fans in general, thus likely giving most/all Nintendo characters a boost. RE4 certainly isn't the upcoming LoZ game by any means, but I think the same effect (with a smaller ratio/proportion) will happen to the RE series.

I'll stick to my own guns here. I think I have a better contest record than you anyways. :P

THANK YOU! I think people overlook the factor of exactly WHO is coming to the site at any given time. It doesn't work for EVERY match (seen as GTA fans don't care that much for the GTA characters), but it can indeed play a factor in certain matches...

Depending on when you started and/or how many winners you've got correct. Most of the matches I get wrong involve latter ones in which I go for a rather crazy upset pick. Other than that, I'm actually more accurate than people think. I only get percentages wrong.

As a matter of fact, I'd consider that factor more than a "KHF" saying that a brief cameo by Cloud and even less of an appearance by Sephiroth would introduce a large amount of people to FF thus increasing their popularity. I would say that Kingdom Hearts brought more FF fans to the site. Of course that is and always will be debatable.

I could understand the "bring old fans back" argument helping Jill in the summer if RE4 launched in, say, June, but if old fans didn't stick around before, why would they stick around 6 months after the game released?

Because some people don't get the game 'til it's 6 months old. Some don't get it in the first year, sure, but you get way more at 6 months than 1 year. You'd also get more at 3 months than 6. Yes, she'd be better off if the game was release today instead of months ago, but something is better than nothing (and we're not talking abotu huge gains, anyway).

And yeah, I always thought it ridiculous that KH was supposed to introduce so many new people to the FF characters. Seemed backwards, plus all things considered I think it really did a whole hell of a lot less than people think.

You absolutely suck Kefka... I mean, this is embarrassing. As one of my three favorite villains ever, this is disheartening beyond words. And it only gets followed up tomorrow when my favorite villain gets pounded by a guy who a good portion of this video game message board had never even heard of. Just disgusting.

And I would take Diablo over Jill just as easily as I took him over Kefka. I refuse to get screwed over by the PC again, and if I lose, I do not want it to be because I underestimated anyone. Overestimation is what I can live with.

Just got to looking, by the way...outdone by only Halo, Kefka will be the second worst performing one-seed we've ever had.

That's not really equitable. This is really a 2nd round matchup in terms of previous contests.

Mario got 55% on Shadow when he was a 1-seed in the 2nd round. Sonic got about 55% on Ryu when he was a 1, and under 59% against Tidus. Lara got 59% against Ryo. Pac-Man got about 63% against Kyo and Snake got 63% against Knuckles. In terms of a 1 seed's % in the second round, all those were worse than Kefka. Against much stronger competition (except for Lara and Pac-Man), of course; but if you're comparing performance relative to seeding and round, that's what you have to do.

Remember that if you want to compare rounds with previous contests, you have to always add +1 for this contest.

For those saying that Kefka is a worse 1 seed than Lara or Pac Man, take note that 8 seeds are far different from 16 seeds. Kefka's performance in this round is better than what Lara did against Ryo Hazuki or what Pac Man did against Kyo Kusanagi.

I know that the seedings are only up to 8. That's why I took care to say worst "opening match" performance by a one seed. There were too many significant matches in the second round of previous contests for it to be of note. None of these 8 seeds are even CLOSE to being on the level of a Shadow or anybody else. Not even relatively. Random statistic! <_<
