Okay, so I checked some Oracle stats, just for kicks.

These are the matches where the consensus was around the losing entry, with the winner's predicted percentage:

Squall vs. Luigi (39.99%)
Halo vs. Starcraft (44.45%)
Starcraft vs. Wind Waker (44.57%)
Joe vs. Tails (46.96%)
Starcraft vs. KH (47.83%)
FF10 vs. SSBM (48.03%)
Link vs. Cloud 2003 (48.19%)
Sora vs. Hayabusa (48.66%)
Mario vs. Crono 2003 (48.84%)
Xenogears vs. Pokémon GSC (49.54%)
Bowser vs. Yoshi (49.74%)
Cloud vs. Sephiroth 2003 (49.99%)

A big WTF at that last one. I'd have expected Sora's expected percentage to be somewhat lower, too.

Perhaps Kefka doesn't start choking on the day vote until about this time? Just throwin' it out there, though it's likely not the case and we don't have much to support it right now.

There is a minute possiblility that Luca Blight suffered from some degree of RPG SFF. It may exist, it may not, the point is that the better Wesker does on Luca, the closer he is to Magus. I think we were throwing around a doubling of Luca to even have a shot, and that means approaching 70%+ to have a good chance. Magus got 82% on Luca, which may have involved some form on SFF. I mean, you are talking about two of maybe the five biggest badasses in all of RPGdom, so for some voters to choose Magus>Luca>pretty much everyone else would not be horribly shocking.

The point is I think Magus absolutely pastes Wesker, like 70/30 or so. I find it very hard to believe that Wesker can double Luca, so really all we are doing with this Wesker/Kefka match is trying to talk ourselves into a close match that really has little to no shot of being anything except a 55/45+ victory for Kefka.

Of course I know she had to, just saying that comparing by division finals and all matches leading up to them she was a friggin' monster of a magnitude incomprehensible. There's some chance that she's on the same level as Sephiroth, as in same ability to beat down hardcore but still losing to Cloud and Link. Basically, she looks stronger indirectly but still ends up weaker in a direct match, which is how Seph looks somtimes.
From: Psycho Kensou | Posted: 5/11/2005 11:49:28 AM | Message Detail
Actually, while Luca could have ahd some sort of SFF (though I doubt it) he could have had somethign quite the reverse. There's a chance since the characters were both of little concern that the lower affected the % in his favor. Abstinatuions may very well have favored Luca in that match.
From: HaRRicH | Posted: 5/11/2005 11:54:53 AM | Message Detail
Not sure if I understand ya here...but, are you saying pity-votes made a difference in Luca's favor?

No, I'm saying lack of interest in the match altogether helped Luca.

Well, it WAS one of the lowest voted matches last summer, but I blame that on Luca more than I think it benefited Luca.

Side-note; in the past few minutes, it's been lookin' like Mithos is fighting back for some percentage points and winning quickly. Perhaps the after-school vote? Time'll tell.

Magus is supposed to be stronger than Frog...yet all three of his matches had at least 17,000 more votes than Magus's match with Luca. Considering Frog's opponents were Liquid, Master Chief, and Solid as well as all three were kept close whereas Magus blew Luca out hard, I still blame it on Luca and doubt the low vote total helped his cause.

Sam Fisher's also mainstream, which'd help his cause alot more against somebody who doesn't garner many votes; isn't that what's speculated to have happened in Kefka/Pac-Man? Luca doesn't have that courtesy.

Not even a doubling anymore. Poor Kefka. Perhaps Chichiri was right about there not being a 20XX Factor.

If that's the case, Mithos is approximately around the 14% mark on 2003 Link.

This is under the assumption that Mithos is purely fodder. I mean, I think he is, but I guess it is somewhat possible that Kefka grew a bit in strength, and ToS is more than just board love. The part I love about all this is we may not even have answers to all of our questions when the tournament is over! God I love cannon fodder, and its ability to completely screw up transitive properties!

At the 13:35 mark, this match has 40944 votes. To compare to other matches at this same time:

Sigma/Andross - 37823
Wily/Ultros - 42032
Lavos/Mother Brain - 40406
Liquid/Tenpenny - 42729

I know for a fact that ToS is popular in places other than Board 8. In fact, I first heard about it and was convinced to buy it from the ZSB. I've seen love for it on LUE, LL, and other boards. Even at school, I've heard people talking about it and even seen a couple of copies lent out.

Has there been a new Lunar in forever? But ToS and SoA both struck me as around the same type of RPG fanbase, where both RPGs are respected outside of the hardcore RPG lovers.

*spoilers*

About damn time Albedo makes a meaningful appearance in Xenosaga!!! It was, different, to say the least but I still don't see what all the fuss is about. I think Grahf and Id in Xenogears were much better in Xenogears so far.... I think they are trying to give Albedo the same type of appearance, but it's not really coming out that way. I'm not impressed. Better be one hell of an ending...

Has there been a new Lunar in forever?

Lunar legends on GBA was a SSSC remake (I think it's SSSC anyways), and there is a new one announced for the DS. Whether the DS game is another remake, or a new game remains to be seen.

On what would you blame that? Old-school SFF? We'll need to see Pac-Man one more time, since the 2003 numbers are tainted as well. Either way, after that it's Sam Fisher, who's quite questionable himself, and then much, much higher, it's Conker.

Wow, you're pessimistic HM. I didn't expect Mithos to be on par with Laharl.

Heh. I find it slightly humorous to hear someone call me pessimistic. =p

Anyway, I expected Mithos to have something of a fanbase given ToS's popularity. It isn't Board 8 that only likes Tales of Symphonia. And Kefka isn't that strong of a competitor to begin with. I've said it before, but it would take someone to be weak as all get out for Kefka to dominate someone.

And what happened to your main, anyway? You hardly ever post with it now. No, lemme guess. Red?

I just like this one more since it hit unlimited posting and got the search function.
