Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 120
From: George Romero | Posted: 5/10/2005 10:47:54 PM | Message Detail
I went with Ridley which I based on Samus' and Metroid's popularity. Yeah, I know Ridley =/= Samus, but at least they're in the same games. I'm not confident at all though. To me, M. Bison, Ridley, and Diablo have the best chances at the division.

So with Ridley and Diablo being the two with the best chances in your mind, you're comparing him to Kefka, where you would have Diablo winning. That's the point I was making about Kefka earlier; you almost can't help but compare Diable to him, though you don't have to worry about that comparison since you have Ridley beating Diablo. Starcraft, Zelda, and Duke Nukem are merely characters with similarities in advantages, with Duke Nukem being the most similar (though that's not saying Diablo's goin' to be very very close to DN's strength):

-The series is named after them.
-They're featured on their boxes.
-Both are mainly known for their PC games, though they had much less popular ports to consoles.
-They're both bad-ass...
-...and have lines to remember them for.

Plenty of similarities, so it's not a bad thing to compare the two. We don't know about the strength of Diablo, but many things line up with Duke. You can already see why Diablo could be comapred to Starcraft, so I won't get into that.

Heh, not even 90% supported Liquid against Tenpenny; only 87.08% backed him up. It'll be very interesting to see how much support Kefka, Ridley, and Kuja do in support.

What? That's bad? Considering he was facing somebody from GTA, that's pretty good.

For being one of the four power-houses we were aware of before the contest and facing just the villain of a GTA game (though granted, still a GTA character), I expected about 91%. Plus, I know you hate hearing about that upset poll, but I'm surprised more people didn't change from Tenpenny to Liquid after that. I know several people switched to have Master Hand and/or M. Bison to go further after it, so it surprises me more people didn't switch to Liquid after Tenpenny sucking it up.

If Wesker hits 70%, sound the upset alarm. Mithos will end the match with it being closer than what it is right now, and it might be in a big way of how much closer he could make it (big = 35% probably being the max).

68.73% for Kefka at the moment. Is it just me or is Kefka showing some weakness? At the very least this proves that Kefka isn't a powerhouse, which means after this match, he will have competition in all his remaining match(es).

Kefka got a early lad on Knuckles before Knuckles made a comeback and crushed him, I don't think Mithos will get doubled, and this is bad news for my bracket. Unless Mithos strength is better than I think.

Go Wesker. Kill my and almost everyone's brackets!

Maybe Mithos is performing well because it looks like a blonde anime chick. But seriously Kefka isn't doing very well for going against a hard to recognize character that is under an even less recognizable name including from the game. If Wesker lights it up tomorrow, I think we could be in for a tough matchup. Kefka's pic bites the big one today too though. Mithos definently gets the pic advantage. As will wesker too though...most likely.

You guys seem to like the extrapolated stats, but at the same time must be aware that voter preference is not generally transitive. Does the data so far suggest that voter preference in these contests is indeed highly transitive? If so, do you have any theories as to why this would be?

well, Mithos is currently at the same level as Rameriz, so i could see Llloyd being at Vyse's level or a little higher. actually, today's match does kinda make sense after all. i'm not quite as worried about Kefka next round as i was. i just wish i would've realized this yesterday, before i made my 74% prediction.
