What, were you getting a hand job when you were fighting the second to last boss? I HATE Chrono Trigger, but even I recognize it as Lavos.

I beat the game three years ago. And I was getting a hand job.

I've beaten the game several times, I'm pretty sure I actually got every ending... or at least the majority of them. And yet, it would've taken me a while to realize that was Lavos had the picture been unnamed.

Definitely not a ™ picture. But it's cooler looking. Who knows which effect this will have?

I think that Ridley may have been underestimated here. Unless all those people who have played any game in the metroid series doesn't know who he is, which i doubt.

I got to a tough (to me) boss on a ship after lots of hours into CT, and stopped from there (it didn't help that I was low on health, either). I've apparently lost my save-file, or else I'd been more specific; it's been about two years for me, get off me.

As far as Lavos/Diablo goes...I picture Lavos as a weaker version of Sin, because Sin's presence in FFX looms so much larger than that of Lavos in either CT or CC. And Diablo...he might not be the most exciting character, but for crying out loud, the game is named after him. Surely that will mean something when the polls roll around.

HM, did I read that right? You think Ridley is going to beat Diablo with 59%?

Yes, because I don't suspect Diablo to be anything noteworthy in strength. He's being overhyped all to hell.

Vergil/Ghaleon looks to be over 4,000 votes short of Sigma/Andross's vote total, and this is GameFAQs's best day for site hits too. To be even more of a broken record, Ghaleon's been gaining percentage points almost all day long. Sephiroth is gonna kill Vergil...I'm calling for a 79-21 match in Seph/Vergil.

5------7226-----72.4190423
4------9695-----70.3867973
3------5872-----68.9884196
2------1697-----67.6487920
1------139------56.1151079
0------119------22.6890756

Once again pretty average. The 0's did pretty well though.

9 people fell off the top 50 today. DomaDragoon, xXSabinFigaroXx, Sugand, TheMMK, Kjf523, FumUnderCheese, JohnnyPolo, Furebe and TOSVIOLATOR didn't have Vergil winning.

i don't know that i fully agree ulti. i'm not too familiar with chrono trigger but isn't lavos like an actual character with dialogue. or is he just an end boss? either way, mother brain is nothing more than an end boss from what i understand which would be similar to the types of characters diablo and sin are. now i don't think that these 4 villains can be grouped at all, but if i had to group them i would say that sin is more like mother brain and diablo is more like lavos.

I like the odds of seeing multiple zero brackets, since realistically there are only three or four matches left that anyone who would even care to go for a zero bracket could miss, barring a ridiculous upset (i.e. Tenpenny over Liquid, etc...).

i just don't see how you can compare end bosses when they're in a match with another end boss. lavos, diablo, mother brain, sin, robotnik, are all end bosses. the only difference is when one of them is a speaking character instead of a big chunk of something that just waits at the end of a game.

Mother brain is about as good an indicator of ridley's abilities as samus is. Just because ridley and mother brain are both villains doesn't mean they have similar popularities. I'm sure many new generation gamers dont even know who mother brain is, but know who ridley is. Further, many who know both will pick Ridley.

While seeds don't mean a lot, they can easily show that Ridley >>> Mother Brain. One can *assume* that people who put Mother Brain had a high probability of also nominating Ridley. This shows many, many more nominated Ridley on their own.

While one may argue that most Ridley fans will atleast recognize Mother Brain and voting would be transitive in a non-SFF match, I don't believe MB is loved nearly enough to swing votes from Lavos, as Ridley would do.

I still like Ridley over Diablo, personally. Unless some crazy starcract stuff happens...
From: UltimaterializerX | Posted: 5/9/2005 12:21:31 AM | Message Detail
Lavos is more like Sin. If you haven't played Chrono Trigger, I'm not going to bother ruining the entire storyline to explain it to you.

As for how this looks good for Diablo, no one cares about Metroid bosses; only Samus. Not only is Diablo a whole hell of a lot stronger than Lavos, but Ridley needs to be eons stronger than Mother Brain to be able to hang with the big bad D.

I don't know why so many people are going for zero brackets this contest. Not only is it easier to do, but it's not like a lot of the contest is up for grabs after the first round. Those who have zero brackets are likely to have won a prize... <_<

And I still don't see this as looking good for Sin. Only hardcore Metroid fans would vote for Mother Brain. As popular as Chrono Trigger is, a lot of people at least know who Lavos is as compared to Mother Brain. Sin is NOT up against a Mother Brain type. He's up against Robotnik. Even if he isn't as popular as Sonic, he still is a major Sonic character who's even playable in the most popular next generation Sonic game. As much as I've seen people attribute that same thing before in Bowser's case, I see nobody bringing it up for Robotnik.

I hope this is a good sign for Diablo and Sin

Sin got into this contest without any Board 8 support, and is facing an absolute bum. I'd be mighty disappointed if he lost not because of my bracket, but because he is eons better of a character than Robutt's fat ass. I also think that Wily is stronger than Robotnik, but that Sin is a LOT stronger than Ultros. It'll be close one way or the other, though.

For what it's worth, while I didn't make the Bowser comparison, I have defended Robotnik for still being featured and playable in the games of this generation while being all over the Genesis in the old-school days.

I would love to hear how/why. Judging from the other Diablo supporters comments, I hope you could provide more than FAQ/message board activity. I, myself, would not take Diablo over Lavos; I would to the exact opposite.

Lavos and Sin are both, um.... "shell" villains from popular Square RPGs. And since Sin will undoubtedly be stronger than Lavos, the better Lavos looks, the stronger Sin should be.

Coming from you that means nothing to me, especially given that you're on a CT fix at the moment.

Unlike what you've done, if I'm going to proclaim that someone is going to "flatten" someone I would tend to support that claim with a little reasoning. I've heard you spout that earlier this evening and I think you're insane for thinking such. What the hell could possibly make you think Daiblo would "flatten" Lavos? Surely it isn't from coming from a more popular series. And it's hardly appropriate to tell me that people are all over Diablo the character. So, what is it? What makes Diablo, another PC character, so strong that he would flatten a villain from a very popular Square RPG with a long history of doing well in this contest?
