What other point is there to doing any of this other than humoring ourselves and interesting discussion? Besides, if what I think about Seph is correct, that's a lot of number crunching that will likely pay off for a match or two in the next contest, so it's not at all "pointless" to try to figure these things out, it's just mostly unprovable without further evidence. Of course, my feeligns about XSt is that they have always been unprovable without furhter evidence.

Same order I always thought it'd be, just closer than I expected.

Bowser
Revolver Ocelot
Dr. Wily
Sigma
Nemesis
Andross
Ultros
Pyramid Head

The order of characters in the first division? The exact same thing as the seeds, except Andross and Nemesis swapped.

Spring Contest 2005 - Points: 05/05 - Matches: 05/05 - Rank: 00001/24748 - Today: Vergil - Tomorrow: Lavos

True enough... but for me, in the event that a match would be close enough for something like adjusting Sephiroth down to make a difference in calling the match, I wouldn't be relying on numbers anyways. That's when I tend to step back and take in a lot more considerations than past results. It's paid off for me in the past.

I really hope Wesker is a whole lot weaker than Vergil, because I have always thought Ghaleon would defeat Luca, and if Wesker is stronger than Vergil, then Luca is gonna pounded something fierce =/

If Ghaleon and Luca are equal, then Wesker NEEDS to be stronger than Vergil to have somewhat of a shot at Kefka. Can't wait to see how this one pans out... though I'm not holding my breath.

I think that Blight is weaker than Ghaleon, but that Wesker is also weaker than Vergil. Wesker/Blight will probably play out the same way as today's match, but with lower vote totals.

15:25:00 (vote totals):
Sephiroth/Ramirez - 61,553
Bowser/Pyramid Head - 53,500
Revolver Ocelot/Nemesis - 53,126
Dr. Wily/Ultros - 50,207
Vergil/Ghaleon - 47,574
Sigma/Andross - 46,441

Ghaleon's slowly but surely been gaining on Vergil about all day, too, on what's supposed to be the best day of the week for site hits. Vergil had better hope Ghaleon's noticably stronger than Laharl 'cuz the vote totals aren't helping much, and letting him "win" the day-vote isn't worth bragging about either.

For the order of the characters in the first division..I'd have..

Bowser
Revolver Ocelot
Dr. Wily
Sigma
Andross
Nemesis
Ultros
Pyramid Head

He wouldn't know how to keep people from voting a second time once his first topic dies.

Keep a list of who already voted?

If someone voting happened to be an alt..I don't know if that could have been helped in the first topic, either.

But hey, it's his topic.

Wesker stronger than Vergil...I..don't think so.

Either way, Kefka has that match.

Tier 1 - Bowser

Tier 3 - Revolver Ocelot, Dr. Wily
Tier 4 - Nemesis
Tier 5 - Sigma, Andross
Fodder - Ultors, Pyramid Head

heh, Ansem vs. CATS will still draw fewer votes.

Don't count on it. Sora was a big enough draw to lay the smackdown on Hyabusa last year, and KH beat out Soul Calibur. Ansem was a huge wild card coming into this. I doubt he can take Gannon of course, but the outside shot is there.

Ansem ight be from Kingdom Hearts, but he was also a forgettable villain that you don't even meet until very, very late into the game. virtually every other villain in that game was better and more rememberable than Ansem and his rants about the DARKNESS. Ansem will be much lower than Sora.

Alright, here's a question: how do you think Seifer would have fared in this contest if he made it? The only characters that I would definitely put ahead of him are Sephy, Ganondorf, and Bowser.

DARKNESS would have to be a good deal above Sora to have a shot at Ganon, and that isn't happening.

As for Seifer, I'd put him somewhere between Kefka and DK... don't know about an exact spot though.

To put that into perspective, Ganondorf would be expected to get 58% against Sora. There's no way that Ansem is even as strong as Sora, much less stronger than him.

Yes, but you first see him on Destiny Island, and you hear about him a fair bit from Angstmuffin and Aerith.

virtually every other villain in that game was better and more rememberable than Ansem and his rants about the DARKNESS.

To be fair, almost every other villain in that game is better known from other media.

And Seifer would likely be a top ten villain, and I'd pick him ahead of a fair number of the second-tier choices.

Ocelot

MM, coming to his senses? Quite possibly...

...as for Ansem, he'll be a lil' stronger than people here on our board expect, I assume (KH has a way of being either under-estimated or short-changed in credit here in everything except when it comes to KHF, strangely enough), but he might not even triple CATS. If he can't triple CATS, he's gonna be DECIMATED by Ganon even more than expected.

I think the main reason Ansem-CATS might be very low in totals is that CATS might hit his theoretical wall, and Ansem won't exactly be a popular villain.

Is it just me, or is this topic moving more slowly than it usually is?

It's because we've had two slow matches thus far.

Sephiroth/Ramirez wasn't worth debating because we ALL knew the outcome and where Seph was going.

Vergil/Ghaleon was a lot like Vyse/Laharl from SC2K4.
-Nobody really cared either way who won
-Nobody really had mega-interest in either character
-The match was nothing more than a "Winner Gets Slaughtered by *insert character*"-match

Things are going to pick up with Lavos/Mother Brain tomorrow. Expect some people to compare Mother Brain's performance to Ridley as well.

That's a given; the better MB does though, the higher Ridley's floor will be, thus giving him a better chance against Diablo.

If Lavos = Kefka and Mother Brain still makes it sweat, that's still great news for Ridley; the stronger Lavos is stronger than Kefka and MB still makes it sweat, that's all the better for Ridley. However, if Lavos flat-out sucks, Ridley almost can't afford for MB to not put up a good fight. We'll find out next round what's up with Lavos, but until then, I think it's pretty safe to assume two things...

-Ridley >or= Mother Brain
-Lavos >or= Diablo

...I think both of those are fair enough, and we can draw some conclusions from there.
