Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 118
From: Slowflake | Posted: 5/8/2005 12:08:58 PM | Message Detail
Hey, I never said I liked that either.

The only way one doesn't deserve a championship is if someone more popular isn't even in the contest in the first place.

But when everyone only knows one, doesn't it make him the most popular? My point exactly. Sephiroth may not be the best villain ever, but he's by far the most popular and thus deserves to win in a landslide.

heh, so it is a popularity contest. well that's stupid, why even bother to put people like Ramirez or Ghaleon in the contest anyway? that's just an easy win for someone from a high selling series like Final Fantasy.

It's based on nomination. CJayC more or less took the 32 characters with the most nominations and put them into the contest. Any non-Cloud, non-(Dark) Link opponent is an easy win for Sephiroth anyways.

btw - Ghaleon is actually closing the percentage gap. i believe it was up to about 65.8% and now Ghaleon has brought Vergil down to 65.6%.

Unless he drops it from 65.6% down to around 49.9% or so, I remain completely irate at today's result. Stupid DMC fanboys vote stuffing for Vergil.

"That's less than DK's number on 2K3 Link. Are you sure you don't mean 2K4 Link?"

What I meant by this is the number you gave Vivi to receive on 2003 Link is less than what DK would be expected to receive on him. I think the percentage you gave Vivi applies to 2K4 Link instead.

Oh, and it doesn't necessarily hurt Kuja as the main villain is often the second most popular character. Not to say he is, but it doesn't hurt him much one way or the other.

As of the 12:15 mark, this match has 37650 votes. To compare to the highest and the lowest at the same time:

Sephiroth/Ramirez - 48167 (Sephiroth still has more votes by himself than the current match's total)

Sigma/Andross - 31687

This doesn't look like it'll be anywhere near the lowest total as some thought it might. Heck, it's currently on pace for more than Ocelot/Nemesis, which is #2 at the moment. Perhaps Sephy's match yesterday raised awareness or something.

Er...My bad, Ocelot/Nemesis is #3, not 2.

Compared to Bowser/Pyramid Head (the actual #2): 36579

This match is still ahead of that one, too.

Sephiroth deserves nothing more than the worst death possible.

Defeat two years in a row at the hands of Cloud Strife seems pretty harsh to me.

Tnote, why would you want a match that'd be a beating without the SFF that'd come with it?

"that's the thing, Leon, on Board 8, Seymour had way more nominations than Sin and you-know-who actually had more nominations, too."

I think Jecht and Sin were combined. If all you know is who Sin is, then that would be far from an unreasonable assumption.

I say that the vote totals are spillover from Sephiroth's match. He probably attracted quite a few people who will stay for a few more matches at least.

I just told you, this all assumes Seph overperformed on Cloud which would MAKE DK'S 2K3 NUMBER WRONG. All caps so you can read it.

You'd think that same factor would have helped out the totals of Sigma/Andross too; Bowser ain't too unpopular himself, heh.

I'm not talking about DK's 2003 number. I'm talking about what you projected for Vivi's percentage against 2003 Link. You said it'd only drop him down to Yoshi's level, which isn't true against 2003 Link. That's only true if it's against 2004 Link.
