I wouldn't imagine Bowser would gain much from last summer, if any. Perhaps a little though...but I assume not.

Poor Sigma. Not even halfway through the match and already Sephiroth
has gathered in more votes than he did in the full 24 hours against
Andross.

The people have spoken...
The fans have demanded it...
The kiddies have tried to stop it...protesting to Ceej with a bogus petition...
No it is not a re-release of Operation Wolf...it is...
Steve Illumina Speaks
You know it, noobs! It is the irreverent column that mocks the contest that geeky gamers live breathe and talk in the school cafeterias about for weeks. It can be fav games...it can be fav characters...or villains...or heroes...or joke bosses...or box art. It dont much matter...nerds will flock to it like fat kids to Whoppers. Now, lets get a move on, shall we!
Continuing with the Thanatos 'Jenova' Division...
(1)Sephiroth vs (8)Ramirez
AKA: Mr. GameFAQ vs Manny
Steve's Pick: Duh
Newbie Pick: Duh
Kiddie Pick: Uh...duh
Non Gamer Pick: Even this one gets a 'Duh'
Comments: We continue this tourney with the first lame-o easily predict-o match...that being of course, a Sephy match with an overmatched, outclassed, jobber character.
Naturally, as the 'Sage of Board 8' I cannot resist a chance to mock King Sephy and his dominions of loyal fanboys and fangirls. The Square Legions...all bearing tattoos of Jenova on their arms...pledging eternal loyalty to the Masamune wielder, and vowing to defend the honor of Mako til their dying day.
So then...from the home office in Harrisburg, PA, I give you tonight's Top Ten List:
Top Ten Ways to Spot a Sephirothite
10. Often will run around their backyard with a butcher knife shouting "One with the Planet! One with the Planet!"
9. Bedroom is still covered with FF7 posters from old issues of EGM and LamePro circa 1997.
8. In math class, instead of algebraic equations, spews out Materia Formulas.
7. Tries to train their pet rabbits to race around the living room aka Chocobo Racing and attempts to inter-breed them too hoping for orange and blue ones.
6. Fantasizes about going to the Prom dressed as Cloud and their date as Aeris, or vice versa.
5. Painted their arm black to look like a gun-arm and ran around pretending to shoot their family with it.
4. Knows the Latin to English translation of 'One Winged Angel' (Sephy's song)
3. Writes Square Enix twice a week or more asking when a sequel is coming out.
2. Has not one..but two Jenova tattoos...
And the number 1 way to identify a Sephirothite...
1. Excessive fanboyism displayed on this very site!
Yep...need anything else be said about Sephy and his chances and this site? Nope...did not think so...
Editor's Note: I told the world, and I was right...Dr. W got the job done. Proved as both the 3rd oldest villain here and the first with a personality in the tourney in terms of his date of origin..that he would be too much for that silly octopod!
And that is all I have to say for today. Tune in tomorrow for Vergil & Ghaleon...a bit more suspense in that one...*yawn*
Quotes: Sephy: "I will be one...one with this Website" Ramirez: "Mommy! I dont belong here! Waaah!"

With about 30 minutes past the match's half-way mark, Sephiroth/Ramirez
has almost 50,000 votes. This match is definitely breaking 90,000, and
probably 95,000. Hell, if it's lucky, 100,000 isn't entirely out of the
question.

Oops, Steve. Blooper.
HaRRicH: I doubt it. Voting slows down earlier during the week-end... I think we won't get 90000 votes, more along the lines of 85000. Still more than what we've had so far.
Can't wait to see tomorrow's turnout... this is this spring's Vyse/Laharl, definitely.
On a totally unrelated note, True Colors is finally done. 4 hours, 1000 units killed, 150 units lost... the Protoss wound up being a complete joke to destroy, since they threw everything at me either on failed assaults on my overdefended bases, or at my attack force while I was busy on the near-invulnerable Terrans. Dumbasses. And the remainder of the game is supposedly even harder... God help me.

Because I'm bored and because I love pointless stats, I made a few graphs I thought I'd share with you:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/BaffledFlask/total-votes.gif
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/BaffledFlask/leader-votes.gif
These show the total votes and the votes from the leader for the first four matches as a function of time. Each data point represents the votes recieved during the previous 30 minutes (ie, the point at 12 will be the total votes between 11:30 and 12 in the first graph and the number of votes gained by Bowser/Sigma/Ocelet/Wily in that time from for the second graph).
Use these however you will. Since Bowser's a given to win the division, the only match this is important for is Wily/Ocelet. A few points of interest:
The total number of votes in the Wily match equalled that of Bowser and Ocelet until the after school time period, during which it tanked completely. This is also the highest rate of voting. Good news for Ocelet.
Bad news for Ocelet, though, is that his percentage wasn't very good during that time period. That may just mean he and Nemesis have similar voting demographics, but he still couldn't climb above Wily's numbers until breaking even from between 4-6:30 pm. The huge dropoff in the Wily match was due to a disinterest in both Wily and Ultros (the match dropped even below Sigma/Andross), but the interest in that time period didn't necessarily favor Ocelet over Nemesis any more than usual.
If I had to guess, I'd say Ocelet will win the 12-6pm time period, assuming schools letting out won't change the demographic that much. However, it may not be enough to necessarily carry him over an early morning Wily lead. I'd give a slight edge to Ocelet at this point, but I think these graphs help to confirm what I assume we all already know: this is going to be close.
---
Back off, man. I'm a scientist.

Nah, I fully expect Wesker/Luca and Ansem/CATS to have fewer votes than that one.

Ansem/CATS should take it, but I'm gonna throw a curveball and say
Albedo/Bison very well could be one of the lowest too, possibly even
challenging Ansem/CATS for lowest vote-totals.

Good one; I didn't even think of that one. If ToS is over-rated by our

I just got to lookin' about how Wily only had 71.77% against a joke
character (to be fair, from FF) since it was discussed not long ago...
2-Dr. Wily got 71.77% of the brackets against 7-Ultros.
1-Lara Croft got 88.51% of the brackets against 16-Chop Chop Master Onion.
1-Pac-Man got 81.69% of the brackets against 16-Goemon.
2-Crash Bandicoot got 81.34% of the brackets against 15-Ulala.
2-Tetris got 88.60% of the brackets against 15-Galaga.
...note that three of the five have made the Sweet Sixteen before (Lara, Pac, and Tetris), but also note that's completely because of their weak fourpacks. Dr. Wily has the worst bracket percentage on his side out of them, and more people had Lara getting to the Sweet Sixteen than Wily getting past Ultros. Wily also barely beat Tetris's second-round bracket support.
What I'm getting at is this: could Dr. Wily be following suit?

A topic of interest regarding character recognition.
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=400&topic=20830601
It's not a very large sample and CE has its biases like every other board does. I totaled up the results of the 19 participants.
Character - # of people who recgonized him
Bowser - 19
Pyramid Head - 7
Sigma - 12
Andross - 12
Ocelot - 16
Nemesis - 15
Dr. Wily - 14
Ultros - 12
Sephiroth - 18
Ramirez - 8
Vergil - 6
Ghaleon - 7
Lavos - 14
Mother Brain - 13
Liquid Snake - 17
Tenpenny - 11
Kefka - 14
Mithos - 7
Luca - 8
Wesker - 9
Albedo - 7
M. Bison - 17
Ridley - 11
Diablo - 14
Ganondorf - 19
Giygas - 8
Ansem - 12
CATS - 14
Dr. Robotnik - 18
Sin - 17
Kuja - 16
Master Hand - 16
Based on this, the best bet for lowest vote total is Vergil vs Ghaleon. CATS is more recognizable than Ansem but this doens't mean very much.

The curse has already been broken by Revolver though, from how I
understand it; not getting to the 2-seed is falling to the curse, while
getting to the 2-seed and losing is what's to be expected (by seeding,
not by opinion) and beating the 2-seed is breaking the curse...unless
my definition of the 2-seed's wrong here. I know Tommy Vercetti was the
only 3-seed in 2k3 who didn't fall for the curse in the board's/topic's
opinion, and he barely avoided it.
Plus, if nothing else, it's not like it's the seed's fault; it's the character's. A-ha.

Tediz247:
Of vourse, Ramirez/Vyse SFF would be worse than Mario/Bowser and Crono/Magus.
I don't think that's possible, given that their fanbases are so small.
Look at it this way: imagine if something has 10 fans total, but 50,000 votes for its poll. Even if SFF is 100% in favor of the stronger character, it'll make almost no difference in the overall totals.
Vyse/Ramirez may cause the fanbase to back one or the other wholly...but most of the votes are not by the fanbase.
Chichiri:
Also we've been assuming that Link, by way of Mario through Crono, made a hage leap... wiht Mario having a direct match with Seph who over performed on Cloud we'd then be led to realize Link didn't increase significantly
Trust me man, Link increased. Every minimized sum of squares calc led to that conclusion. No matter what I did Link was shown to increase by at least 4-5%, relatively.
Yes, but Seph clearly over-performed in 2k3.
Um...since when does something without any real evidence become "clear"? Seriously now.
Harrich:
If ToS is over-rated by our board much at all, that very well could be one of the lowest.
It seems as if every one of these topics is dominated by ToS discussion. Is the game really that popular on this board?

What swirl and Leonhart said. But ToS is awesome so it is certainly warranted.

Tales of Symphonia is pretty cool, though it pales in comparison to Skies of Arcadia.

This board is borderline obsessed with the game. I've heard so much
about ToS that sadly I don't want to have anything to do with the game.
I've had so much of the game spoiled by this board that I can't even
complain anymore...

The only thing Tales of Symphonia has that I wish SoA had is Presea.

Same here. At this point, it wouldn't be worth it for me to even try the game.

Do you think it would help to start a petition about the match pic? If so, we'd better do it soon.

I doubt it would avail much of anything. Ghaleon's sunk. It's pretty
obvious that Ceej has Vergil winning in his bracket, and he's trying to
seal the deal.

4. Knows the Latin to English translation of 'One Winged Angel' (Sephy's song)
I'm pretty sure the song's in Austrian, not Latin.

Yeah, site suggestions, board 7. If you do it, I would only include one
of your two images... otherwise you'll get people arguing over which
one is better, which won't help the petition. (I like the second one
better, but it's up to you). Post the link in this topic when you're
done.

CJayC:
The Spring Contest so far has been a great success and a lot of fun; congratulations on coming up with an interesting an original idea. The match pictures, particularly Sigma vs Andross, and the "got villains?" banner look wonderful. However, tomorrow's match picture, Vergil vs Ghaleon, does not follow the same proud tradition. Vergil looks excellent; Ghaleon does not. With that in mind, I subbed in two different Ghaleon pictures, taken straight from the FMV in Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete, with the artwork used in the picture, without altering Vergil's picture or the text in the slightest. Please consider using either of these pictures instead of the posted one for tommorow's battle.

What do you think? It's a pretty slim chance that anything would get changed, but it's worth a shot.
