Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 117
From: NewLib | Posted: 5/6/2005 11:02:45 PM | Message Detail
Yes there have been, and I believe there has been a lot more that we arent seeing. The biggest clue to it was when Aonuma was asked if there was going to be any voice acting in Zelda, he said no that Mr. Miyamoto didnt want it. Didnt say Nintendo, didnt say the staff, didnt say him, He said Miyamoto.

Without the Gameboy, Nintendo would be in a lot of trouble. Pokémon was huge for that company.

I may of been hasty about saying that I want Miyamoto completely out. He can still make amazing games. I just want him to not be in control of every game that comes out of Nintendo. The man has more pull than the President and never has been reported to have very good business sense.

Voice acting is not something that is required, doesn't matter if it is this day and age or not. I find it to be a rare case where voice acting is actually superb and in the case that it is bad, you better damn well believe people will complain like no other about it. At that, Zelda games don't exactly have a bunch of areas where voice acting would be abundant. There aren't exactly a large amount of cutscenes where that would fit in.

He doesn't. Each game designer works for a particular Research and Development team. Miyamoto happens to be work at EAD and works on all the Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, and now Pikmin titles.

There hasn't been a damn thing wrong with anything that Miyamoto has done as of late.

Maybe, but even you have to admit that Iwata is an absolute moron these days.

Any game developer more concerned with an "Oh that looks neat, I want to try" response from a gamer's mother instead of the gamer himself needs to grow up and realize that this is the year 2005. Churning out a Mario title with simple controls won't work anymore.

I agree, HM. I dont care for Voice Acting. But it would help the game sell. It would add to the overal sales. And it was just a clue at the fact that I dont think Miyamoto realizes what the American public wants. And you might say screw the American public, but if Nintendo wants to be successful they cant.

Also, one last thing about the old fossil. His last idea (or forced idea) for the company was the DS, which I believe was not a very bright one. Iwata's first big decision came with Revolution and I havent given out hope with Nintendo because I think Iwata knows what he is doing.

Miyamoto had a lot of pull in the switching of Metroid Prime. Great decision, but it shows that his power is far beyond just at EAD.

The prime voice actor for Ganondorf would be a large black man.

I can't think of his name, but you know the guy who plays Bear in Armageddon and Kingpin in Daredevil? He would be a perfect voice actor for Ganondorf. The guy's voice just reeks of sinister.

Maybe, but even you have to admit that Iwata is an absolute moron these days.

I've had some problems with what Iwata has been saying, but he can say a bad thing on minute and turn around and deliver an amazing comment. And his GDC speech was awe-inspiring.

Any game developer more concerned with an "Oh that looks neat, I want to try" response from a gamer's mother instead of the gamer himself needs to grow up and realize that this is the year 2005.

I think people are taking that a comment a little too seriously. He's expressed an interest in getting people who currently don't play games to sit down and play them. This doesn't just appeal to mothers, but anyone. He wants to find a way to create games that appeal to both the core audience as well as the more casual group who isn't really good at games. I'm holding judgment on what it could be until I see it. But I do believe that people are taking that example and overexaggerating it.

Come on HM, you know you would love the next Zelda that much more if Lance Bass was the voicing talents of Ganondorf...

I shudder at the thought. *shudder*

The problem people have with Iwata is that they pick out a sentence or two which might be a mistranslation, ignore the rest of the speech, and say "Hey look, Revolution will be underpowered!!" Which he has NEVER, ever said.

Well, of course. He isn't solely limited to his group and nothing more. Nintendo is always going to want his opinion on any games that the other development teams may be working on. I mean, come on, the man knows how to make a great game more than anyone. He isn't afraid to try out new ideas either.

Im not going to argue about Miyamoto, because he is only #3 on the list of things that are causing Nintendo problems, and I still think his overall benefit is more than his detraction.

The old fossil finnaly getting his hands off Nintendo made me so happy, by the way.

Wait, so you're speaking of Hironobu Sakaguchi? Or perhaps even Hideo Kojima? Certainly you can't be saying that Iwata is the end-all be-all of game design.

The one thing Ocelot has going for him is that his poll will likely wind up with about 6000 more votes than Wily's. There's also the fact that Ultros could very well be a joke character who would get stomped by Nemesis, but we have no proof of that.

I don't think it was ever mentioned how strong Dr. Wily would be if Ultros = Kefka (at this percentage, anyways)...or, at least, I don't remember it if it was; I know it'd put him pretty high.....

I'd like to see it, but if my vote has anything to say about it, he won't.

As a side-note, looks like Dr. Wily'll keep Ultros under 36% afterall, and the match will also break 72,000.

Michael Clarke Duncan does do a lot of voice acting, but he isn't really Ganondorf. His voice isn't nearly sinister enough; Ganon is more than a "tough guy". And he's got a one-tone voice--it never really changes.

However it doesn't work for me; I get a class not found error. Could someone that has JRE installed try it out, and see if it works for them?

...Or maybe he's just struggling to find a good close-up shot of Ramirez. Who knows?
