Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

Here's something I thought you guys might be interested in. I've taken each game from Nintendo's "Big Three" series (Mario, Zelda, Metroid-okay, Pokemon is more popular than Metroid, but we'll ignore that for now) and averaged out all the scores of the GameFAQs reviews for each of them. The numbers in parantheses beside each score represents the number of reviews that game has.

Mario:

Super Mario Bros.- 9.20 (75)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan)- 8.15 (20)
Super Mario Bros. 2- 8.54 (43)
Super Mario Land- 6.77 (30)
Super Mario Bros. 3- 9.67 (51)
Super Mario World- 9.28 (39)
Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins- 8.10 (29)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island- 9.33 (33)
Super Mario 64- 8.98 (51)
Super Mario Sunshine- 8.33 (69)

Series average: 8.64

Zelda:

The Legend of Zelda- 9.49 (59)
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link- 8.24 (42)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past- 9.38 (50)
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening- 8.94 (35)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time- 9.03 (69)
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask- 8.20 (55)
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons- 9.10 (30)
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages- 9.39 (31)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker- 8.71 (84)
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap- 8.67 (42)

Series average: 8.92

Metroid:

Metroid- 8.61 (36)
Metroid II: Return of Samus- 7.83 (35)
Super Metroid- 9.59 (49)
Metroid Fusion- 8.44 (61)
Metroid Prime- 9.23 (95)
Metroid Zero Mission- 8.46 (54)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes- 8.89 (62)

Series average: 8.72
+-+-+-+

Now, I suppose I should comment on this a bit...the biggest surprises for me are the original Zelda being the highest-rated game of its series (I consider it to be the worst...) and Oracle of Ages scoring higher than A Link to the Past.

Also note how Metroid Prime has way more reviews than any other game on this list.

I've also gotten the ratings for every Mega Man game (even the X series...), if you guys are interested.

Early indications tell me that FFXII won't be the one. Vaan looks to be one of the most unappealing main characters the series has churned out yet.

Yes, that's right. Early signs tell me that Fighter > Vaan

Ever since Sakaguchi left Square-Enix, I've been quite torn on how good a new Final Fantasy will come out to be. FF12 looks good, but it won't be a new FF7, especially when they are deadset on milking FF7 until there's nothing left.

Of course it is. But that's, unforunately, how things work over in corporate Japan. You screw up once and you're pretty much done. What is fortunate is that he's back in business with a lot of former Square employees over at Mistwalker and Akira Toriyama is signed on as the character designer for Blue Dragon, and one other exclusive Xbox 360 RPG. I cannot wait; Sakaguchi is a genius, after all.

After some difficulties, cn should have a working copy of the Extrapolated Standings Calculator (XSC) in his hands. Unfortunately, it requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to run, so if you don't have at least the JRE 5.0 and you want to use the XSC, head on over to this site:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
click on "Download JRE 5.0 Update 3," and follow the instructions. This is also spelled out in the readme packaged with the XSC, but it couldn't hurt to give you guys with slower modems a head start.

It is pretty much the exact same thing, except this was far worse. I was utterly shocked to hear that Sakaguchi was being fired from Square-Enix. The man saved that company with Final Fantasy. You just don't fire the Father of Final Fantasy.

Yeah, I'm still bitter about that.

I dont see how it is worst. Both guys created the iterm that made Nintendo and Square respectively filthy rich. Hell, without FF and Game Boy both these companies would be dead in the water.

Err, the Game Boy wasn't exactly Nintendo's sole savior. Don't get me wrong, the Game Boy has been a large part of Nintendo's success, but they would still be a very successful company without it. Yokoi was a great man, brilliant even. But while Nintendo managed to press along, Square hasn't been the same since.

I mean, the term "Final Fantasy" was called that for a reason. It was Square's final game they were going to make before closing shop.

1) I assume Yokoi inspired/made the Game Boy...what'd he do to get fired?
2) I never thought about where Nintendo'd be without the Gameboy...WOULD they have really gone down without it? I know it's been HUGE for them, but I didn't think they relied on it to that degree.

He created the Virtual Boy. Eventually he left Nintendo and went on to create the Wonderswan, and soon after he was tragically killed in a car accident. =(

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Square-Enix also lost Uematsu and Amano, for big names.

FF:TSW can be blamed for a lot of bad things that have been happening to S-E. They invested money into motion pictures and when FF:TSW bombed...that sent S-E into a downward spiral from which they haven't recovered.

True, at the time Game Boy didnt have the same impact. But where would Nintendo be today without it?

The old fossil of Nintendo while he lead Nintendo to great heights, also brough them down hard by A) Firing Yokoi, B) Alienating every third party developer that existed.

I feel bad for Iwata, because I think I know what he is doing, but he is having to make up for the mistakes the old fossil made. Also on that note, Miyamoto needs to retire. I love the man and his work, but he cant in his mind realize that production value matters and America is the most important market. Aonuma is a brillant man who seems to GET IT.

Saying Yokoi quit is not exactly true. After Virtual Boy, Nintendo demoted him to the point where he had no control over anything. They basically said we are going to keep you on the payroll to do nothing. They forced him to quit.

That's usually what happens in corporate Japan. You are given a position that has no bearing on big company issues, but you still get to mess with some things that usually will never amount to anything. But he quit, Nintendo never said that he was fired. Of course, it wasn't like he had much choice.
