He is. He always plays second fiddle in every game he is. Nemesis at least had one game where he was the main bad guy. And I agree MGS >> RE (even though I LOVE to see Liquid vs Leon this summer), and 62-38 accurately represents that.

I think RE under-performed a lil' too, but I wouldn't label it SFF any more than we'd label Mega Man/Tidus SFF. I get what ya mean though, just the labeling screwed me up there.

I'd consider Ocelot a main enemy in MGS3. He appeared more than Volgin and Boss.

I'd say that Ocelot will have at least a doubling, simply because he does make a pretty big impact pretty quickly in MGS. Also, there's MGS3 to consider. The more I think about it, the more I think Ocelot might be on Liquid's level.

Of course, I just beat MGS: TTS about an hour ago, so maybe this is Heroic Mario Syndrome/just played bias talking >_>

As for Sigma/Falco, I'd take Falco simply because he's probably in the top 5 for casual popularity in SSBM from what I've seen.

1. Liquid is the main bad guy in the most popular MGS game.

Really? Then I feel sorry for humanity... I can understand MGS 3 (great game) but rating MGS 2, one of the biggest dissapointments ever over the BEST game on the PSX. Ridiculous.

Liquid's strength is likely overestimated due to the Frog/Snake match, and Bowser will have bracket votes.

Going off on a tangent... Leonhart, since you're here and you seem to be one of the most knowledgable on MGS on the board, how much does Substance have that Sons of Liberty doesn't? Try not to spoil anything too major.

I haven't played Substance myself, but from what I hear, the game has "Snake Tales," which are little subplots where you can control Solid Snake in the plant. It also has a demo theater of sorts, where you can actually replace certain characters in cutscenes (such as, for example, having MGS1 Solid Snake replace Ocelot in the opening scene. It's just a replacement of the visual image, nothing more).

There's also a little bit added to the actual game, which shows Raiden running across the oil bridge after a certain scene.

The better Andross does, the more likely it is that Wily will bomb. And the closer Ultros gets to Wily, the more likely it is that Robutt will bomb.

Can you explain the relationship here? or someone else? I can understand the wily/sigma relationship (which is conjecture, but seems valid) but extension to Ultros? Because he's a joke villain? I'm hoping there's more to it.

I think these "surprising results" are going to highlight a point I've said a few times. This is not the Summer Contest. This is a villain's contest. I don't know how safe/reliable it is to use past results to justify these new matches. It's a different contest, and I bet it won't play out as entirely expected.

I am a huge Mega Man fan. I had to actually think about who Sigma was when I saw his name until I finnaly remembered him. I knew Wily right off the bat.

How can you be a huge Mega Man fan and not know who Sigma is?

Mega Man X is a very prominent series, thinking otherwise is simply asinine on your part. You can be a "fan" of Mega Man and not know who Sigma is, but to claim your a *huge* fan and not know who he is strikes me as insane. It would require that you not touch any Mega Man X game between the SNES and now. Yeah, right.

I couldn't agree with FastFalcon more if I wanted to. I also have said since day one that this will not play out the same as if it was a Summer Characters Contest. I am not saying actual wins would change, but percentages definitely will (though I think a Ghaleon victory may result from this villains contest).

As for tomorrow, I think the RE movie angle will give Nemesis a little more exposure than he otherwise gets (or deserves) and say Ocelot takes it 63-37.

That's the only thing that even hints at anything more than a popularity contest (without reading though that main-info crap, and the poll will catch alot more people's attention than that opening paragraph will)...and considering half the people who voted awhile back didn't know there was a contest, that must mean there were about half the voters who don't read the paragraphs CJay writes there. From there, I doubt many people will take it that seriously and vote outside of their favorites.

And yet, Villain Battle is still prominently involved in the Poll of the Day. I stake my claim to the difference being able to be seen through Luca Blight, a renown awesome villain. If he does not do better in this contest in relation to how he would be expected to do against the likes of Liquid, Bowser, Kefka, etc... in a summer setting, then I will admit defeat and move on.

Andross is doing much better I than expected, I should have givining hm more credit than I did.

I will use my personal example of Sephiroth vs. Luca.

I personally find Sephiroth to be one of the better characters in video gaming. He is well developed, and aside from wielding a sword that could double as an airplane wing, his aura is one that most people respect. However, as a villain, I found him to be lacking.


FFVII SPOILERS


Sure, he killed you know who, and burnt Nibelheim to the ground, but he just never struck me as a guy who I would utterly despise (up until killing you know who).



END SPOILERS


With Luca, this is a man that burns multiple villages to the ground, and though PSX graphics sucked back then, brutally slaughtered village people in the course of the game. You grow to hate and despise Luca Blight with ever fiber of your gaming being, but there is not much as to character development. You just know he is a monster. (Sure, if you read the manga you know the background, but only 100k bought the damn game, so how many possibly read the manga?)

In short, I find Sephiroth to be the better character, but Luca to be the better villain. There are other examples of this (Kefka is a better villain than Sephiroth as well, but not a better character). Sure, this probably only applies in a handful of cases when one person would vote differently depending on the type of contest, but in the cases where it would occur, I think it would be on a greater-than-statistically-insignificant basis.

Sephiroth's sizzord doubles as a flagpole, not an airplane wing. That's the Buster Sword you're looking for.

Either way, you don't vote for who's better in these contests, you vote for your favorite. I can't see anyone arguing against their favorite in a "who's better" debate. I know I'm voting Kefka all the way through, even if there are villains that could be said to be superior in terms of villainy.
