I imagine this has more to do with Sigma being a piece of crap than Andross being strong.

Because, to be quite honest, I had never heard of Sigma until last year's contest, when everyone was talking about voting him in and whatnot, despite having played several of the MMX games.

He's just not a well-known character.

I also am very concerned now regarding the Wily/Robotnik picks. Is this Sigma sucking? Is this Nintendrones being loyal? We already know Square cannot suck, so if this is a product of a loyal fanbase merely carrying a less-than-stellar character, I do believe Wily may not break 55%, and more importantly, Sin may win.

Andross really can't be near Fox, and my best guess for Fox is only about 22% on Link, so this is definitely more Sigma sucking than Andross being strong. I figure that Andross probably wouldn't get more than 35% on Fox, which would stick him around 16% on the XS. That puts Sigma currently around 18%, about a percent short of the 19% (28% on Zero) that I thought Sigma would be. So if my Andross prediction is more or less correct, I'll have overestimated PH and Andross by a percent each. Not bad.

And both Square and Nintendo can indeed suck, and we shall see evidence of them sucking soon enough in Ultros and Giygas. Andross and Sin won't be quite as bad, but they're certainly not anything special.

If by sucking in your coughing, you mean 'favorite for the Final Four' then sure, Kefka sucks. I believe Ramza woulda been a better route to go, personally, but Kefka is more a disappointment that a measure of sucktitude.

Kefka doesn't suck. He went from struggling with Pac Man in 2003 to being projected to score about 63% on him. We have yet to see Kefka's potential, but it'll show up in this contest.

From the beginning, I've felt that Wily would be lucky to get past Ultros, and that Robutt is weaker than Wily, possibly even around Wily's level. And since Sin >>> Ultros while Wily is likely = Robutt, Robutt has his hands full come his match with Sin. The closer Ultros gets to Wily, the more likely it is that Robutt is going to get creamed.

I'm not convinced that Wily will beat Ultros, either. Wily would have all kinds of problems beating Sigma in a match, and I wouldn't count Ultros out against Andross by any means. We're going to have a very interesting match in a couple of days, and don't be surprised at all if Ultros somehow pulls it out. I have Wily winning, but Ultros beating him wouldn't shock me.

Now that it's been confirmed as head shots for the first round, I'm a little bit worried about Ghaleon. I have Vergil winning, but I just don't know now. I can I'll be happy either way though. If Ghaleon loses, I keep my bracket perfect. If he wins, then the better villian moves on. I also feel a lot better about a Diablo victory because of the picture style.

I don't get the support for Ghaleon at all. Matches that feature two characters who few people know/care about almost always turn into a franchise voting affair, and in this case, it's Devil May Cry vs Lunar. I fail to see the issue.

Yeah, I guess I'm letting my bias for him blind reality. Ghaleon will probably lose like 58-42. I know a lot of people who are RPG fans (or at least say so) and they've never played the Lunar games. That doesn't speak well for Ghaleon.

On a side note, I noticed that you had Bison moving quite far in the contest Ulti. I was going to put him winning the division, but my brother told me I was absolutely crazy to think he'd make it that far. If he does, I am so going to punch him in the face. :P

Bison winning that division wouldn't surprise me in the least, and I'd love to see it happen. I just picked Kefka to beat him because I highly doubt that Bison is on the level of Ken or Sub Zero; he would have to perform significantly better than them to be able to take down Kefka, which I highly doubt will happen.

I think Kefka sort of wins his division by default. That division is nothing but a bunch of rats.

I don't think you need to worry about Wily too much. I only played a few of the older Megaman games and I have NO idea who Sigma is. Wily on the other hand, I knew right away. I think that Wily is much stronger than Sigma. I also agreed with you on Sin over Eggman.

Well, yes...he might end up slightly stronger than Sigma according the final extrapolated rankings. Of course, Bowser vs. Sigma will give us a much better idea. Oh, and what about the possibility that Protoman suffered SFF against Zero? Protoman could actually be a lot higher than Sigma. =P

I could see Ultros pulling the upset, though it would be more out of his own strength than Al's weakness. Ultros could be more recognizable than Kefka (more games, his pictures look more like him than Kefka's various FMV/Amano incarnations, the chance that he'll be mistaken for Kraken).

In terms of recognizability, Dr. Wily is far above Sigma. Sigma, in this picture, looks quite bad in my opinion. Recognition on the picture alone will not help him. Dr. Wily, on the other hand, has a pretty well-known appearance. This, combined with better support of the classic megaman series, leads me to believe that Wily will do much better than Sigma. And yes, Zero did well and Protoman didn't last year, yet I'd put Wily closer to Megaman. Certainly Wily would never, ever even come close to beating Zero, but I think he'd beat Protoman by a sizeable margin.

I didn't know anything about Sigma heading into this tourney, except for his series and that cool picture that CJay used on the "Meet the Villains" page. But looking at the match pic today...ew.

Anywho, I don't think this reflects badly on Wily, because I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be stronger than Sigma...I don't think Ultros poses a real threat to him (I would take Andross over Ultros, honestly), but I guess we'll see come Friday.
