Hmm. Andross has been keeping up with Sigma for at least the last 10 minutes. What's going on here? Is this another one of those out-of-left-field nailbiters?

Well Bowser's path is a lot easier than expected.

This is a pleasant surprise. Surprisingly close matches (at least so far) are always wonderful, and close matches that have the potential to annoy Heroic Mario are priceless! ^_^

I don't think anybody expected Sigma to beat Bowser, but I didn't think he'd get creamed. That might not be the case now.

78,000 was just broken, and that'll likely be all the landmarks this match will hit for today. Here's for hoping Sigma/Andross is somehow a surprise barn-burner...but I'm not counting on that, heh.

Is God granting my wish, perhaps? Please do, please please do; I'd give a point to see Andross win this, heh.

You know, it seems that maybe Sigma isn't as well-known as I thought. I've seen a few topics around from people wondering who he was.

You think he might actually be a relatively unknown villain?

Meh, I think this match proves one of two things:

1)Sigma isn't respected as a villain, quite contrary to Zero. I was kinda expecting this from the beginning (though I specifically said this for Wily and Robotnik).
OR
2)Andross has demonstrated the power of the Nintendo fanbase. (And he's not Tom Nook.)

Let's see if this does indeed transfer over to Wily and Robotnik. We'll find out in a couple more days for one of them.

As I said before, I think maybe Sigma isn't all that recognizable as a villain. That might have something to do with it.

If this match continues at this rate, it may mean that we are in for a LOT of surprises--or at least things that we would have found surprising if we had heard about them before the contest started.

Looks like the "only 5 characters are known" thing might have big effects on prediction volatility.

Or, this match might not mean much and we're overreacting. But...you have to wonder.

Well, I was certainly expecting plenty of surprises to happen...that's what an almost completely new field of characters will do. I wouldn't be surprised to stunning results (according to the board) for 1/3 of the matches. :P

Leonhart:
We have no conclusive idea where Fox stands whatsoever. We only have guestimates.

What makes you say this? He might've suffered SFF from Link, but in 2K2 there's no reason to think his 19% strength was off by that much. Maybe if you by the fact that Cloud was deflated due to Mario overperformance (which is possible, but it's highly doubtful--to put it mildly--that any accurate adjustment would put him near Link that year)--but making Cloud equal to Link puts Fox at 25%. That's the highest Fox could possibly be, and it sounds much too high. So maybe Fox is really in the 21%-23% range...anything above that is a real stretch.

For Sigma vs. Bowser (assuming Sigma wins here), let's be very liberal and say that Andross is higher than Fox has ever been, at 20% on 2K2 Link. And let's say that somehow Sigma manages to get 60% in this match. Since Bowser should be at 30.97% on 2K2 Link, it seems that 41% should be the highest we can expect from Sigma against Bowser (since we've been using assumptions fairly favorable to Sigma). Looks like Sigma is very likely to disappoint relative to the pre-contest expectations of many.

I'm not entirely convinced that Andross has a significant edge in the day-vote like normal. It's jsut not the matchup that creates such extreme differences in day-night despite the Nintendo factor.

Good call on Sigma getting 70%, Dusty. Glad to see you're back in form.

In my writeup for Moltar's topic, I said that Dr. Wily would be lucky to get past Ultros, and that Ocelot would flat-out kill him in the second round. Doesn't seem like such a crazy pick now, does it? =)

Oh, and I feel a lot better about Sin over Robutt. If a monkey can hang with the main villain of the X series, I think FFX's main villain is more than capable enough of holding his own.

Oh please. This board is not going to see Sonic/Samus 2002, Mario/Cloud 2002, Mario/Crono 2003, or Starcraft explosions during a match with Ocelot in it.

Going off of what I've heard today, I think that match will be strickly 50-50. Sigma being from Metroid has the Samus crew to help, but Diablo has the Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo fans to back him. Both characters seem to have a strong fanbase, so it's anybody's game.

Uhh, Sigma is from MMX, not Metroid. I'm officially disregarding that post. ~_~
