The more I think about it, the more I find myself unable to shake the feeling that we're goin to be villain free this summer.

The more I think about it, the more I find myself unable to shake the feeling that we're going to be Clinkeroth free this summer.

I mean, there's only ~5 villains in the regular contest anyway.

nah. before the contest started Ceej alluded to the Summer Contest as being traditional and unchanged every year (i.e. - 64 characters, and no characters will be excluded). but mark my words that next Spring will be the Female VG Character Contest!!

I think we'll either go Clinkeroth-free or have a game-contest...probably Clinkeroth-free. CJay may wanna have one more game-contest before the next generation of game systems hit though, so who knows.....

I still think he'd be well advised to go with my idea for a Spring contest: A game contest with a whole new line-up of 64 games. Frankly, some likely powerhouses were excluded from the first contest because of the one game per series in each generation rule. FF8, Yoshi's Island, Mortal Kombat 2, Majora's Mask and a whole hell of a lot of other games got screwed when they could have been powerhouses.

Yes, I know, not everybody likes to see power over variety. The fact of the matter is, hoever, that the majority does like it. That's why they are powerhouses, after all, big groups of people like them!

A combo of snubs and games within the past year (technically, a lil' longer than that) here would make for a GREAT contest.

Indeed.

In fact, I think I'll update me old bracket to include more recent games such as Halo oh my god it's going to ruin the division 2.

I still think the idea of a "Character Vehicles" contest would be good. I mean, all the characters get the glory from their games...but some of them wouldn't be so high and mighty if it weren't for a vehicle (of some form or another) to transport them from place to place. The KotOR crew couldn't have saved the galaxy (or in the case of the Dark side ending and conquer it) if it weren't for the Ebon Hawk to transport them from place to place. The Epoch, Epona, the Wind Waker boat (dunno what it is called)...all these modes of transportation helped save the day. Now why not give them the recognition they deserve? [/mindless ranting]

I think that'd take away from what CJayC is trying to accomplish here, and that is new visitors and heightened popularity for the site. In no way would seeing a match between "The Enemy Big Rig" from Big Rigs and a Ghost from Halo spark any excitement about this place.

Well, I can say with certainty that I've played Diablo 2 more than any other game on that list, and I honestly jsut can't think of what to drop for it (or even what division it should be in since it doesn't scream 128 to me).

Starcraft didn't scream 128, either...try looking at putting Diablo 2 in Deception's place, or maybe M&L:SS.

My thoughts exactly.

That's why I'm against nomination limits (e.g., games per generation, characters per company/game). It should be quite possible to have a 64 character contest filled with characters who all would've been top 40 or better in previous contests.

Yeha, it'd go well in place of Deception. Hate putting such an original title to the side, but I guess that's what would happen in the real thing.

And yeah, a powered up bracket would be nice. Something I've discovered, which relates to the whole limit issue... Aeris has more votes in her favor on average than Sonic does. Of course not being in the 2k4 contest would have actually helped that, she's obviously one of the best vote drawing characters (not that it doesn't follow suit with how high she ranks).

Bring back Aeris, dammit!

Does anyone really think the site/vote totals would suffer because of disinterest if company caps were not around (i.e. Square/Nintendo garners perhaps half or so of the 64 contenders)? Personally, I think if anything they would go up, because of the better chance for competitive matches. Imagine Vincent getting a 13 seed and drawing Yoshi, instead of Ryo Hazuki getting pimp slapped for the 1857224th time.

Ryo's gotta go, and Yoshi losing in the first round to a 13-seed, even if it was Link, saddens me. Regardless, that'd be alot better still.

From: rpgapzx | Posted: 5/3/2005 11:28:04 PM | Message Detail
It really shouldn't matter whether it's "sad" that any character like Yoshi doesn't get past their first round. If you just fill the last 16 slots in the tournament with fodder just so characters like Yoshi can have a free ride. Find the Terry Bogard 16's or better yet, bump him to an 13/12 seed where he belongs and let the good matches roll.

Instead, Have more interesting matches and the best characters(with the company cap) is the way to go.

As someone just said, it's just better that way.

Sigma 63.16% 24
Andross 36.84% 14
TOTAL VOTES 38

...as of this very moment, Andross is at 38.71% with 96 votes (total - 248). WWAAYY too early to tell, but that's not a good start if Sigma's gonna put up a battle to Bowser.

Forgot about that legit arguement Leonhart, good point...but yeah, assuming he was about 21%.

Damn, considering the gap there HAS to be between Fox and Andross, Sigma's lookin' like **** right now. Hell, if Andross is as strong as Crash Bandicoot is, Sigma would be at about Viewtiful Joe's strength I think (with the 43% Andross has right now). Dayum...what a dud Sigma's lookin' to be if he doesn't kill with the day-vote.
