I doubt that Bowser would benefit much from it. With well known characters like Bowser and Mario who have been in PLENTY of games, it would take a monumental game to have an effect on their popularity (read: Legend of Zelda (working title)- GC). Call it popularity saturation.

I disagree. PM2 is tied with Metroid Prime as my favorite GameCube game. It owns the hell out of SMRPG, PM, and M&L as far as I'm concerned.

What the hell? You actually think 4-Swords Adventure was the reason for Link's 5% increase???

And I take it you didn't read the part about character's having multiple games.... Samus did NOT have multiple games. She had a lot of room for growth in that terms. Think of Crono for example. ANY type of game with him in it would probably increase his popularity because he only has Chrono Trigger to work for him.

I still believe that if Crono/Magus/Frog ever got a new game with them in it, they would all rank as the some of the strongest characters in the contest. With Crono capable of taking on the Big 3.

No, my point was that characters do not need "monumental" games to increase, Link, Samus, and the entire KH crew being good examples of that. Of course, Prime and Wind Waker were both arguably "monumental," and neither character gained anything from them.

Yeah, that explains it. The N64 one was vastly superior.

But the whole emphasis of my post was about characters who have been around for a long time and have lots of games out. Squaresoft characters specifically are excluded because most of them only are in one major game. So ANY appearance in another game probably will increase their popularity. Samus also hasn't had many games until the Prime, Fusion, Zero Mission trio. Now her popularity has increased due to more exposure.

Bowser, Mario, and Link however are already HIGHLY exposed characters who have multiple games. You just proved my point on how Wind Waker didn't do much for Link. To actually think that Four Swords would be the cause of Link's increase and NOT the hype for his new game is puzzling. (I'm not even gonna touch the fact of CJayC exclusively using WW pics for Link in 2k3). So yes, I stand by my feeling that a character like Bowser, Mario, or Link who has been in VG limelight for a long time would need monumental games to have a noticeable increase in popularity. No Wind Waker was NOT monumental compared to what the new LoZ will be.

Back in the previous topic, but I'm glad somebody has actually considered putting M. Bison over the winner of Ridley/Diablo. It's a nice upset special...if that happens, though, I think Kefka has the division locked.

No, my point was that characters do not need "monumental" games to increase, Link, Samus, and the entire KH crew being good examples of that. Of course, Prime and Wind Waker were both arguably "monumental," and neither character gained anything from them.

Perhaps Samus would have gotten a Solid Snake sort of slip if it wasn't for Metroid Prime? And then she just recovered from that slip the next year?

Lastly, I think Pyramid Head will be stronger than Guybrush. Silent Hill games are quite popular, and if RE characters didn't fare so bad, perhaps Pyramid Head won't (compared to other fodder). Then again, he's a villain in a single game, I think...

The absolute floor for Ghaleon is Luca Blight, and I think he'll be a good deal stronger. Regardless, Vergil would have to be at Vyse's level to double Luca, and I don't think he'll be that high.

I don't think it's particularly unreasonable to think that Ghaleon would get 60% on Luca and that Vergil would get 30% on Dante, leading to a 54/46 split in Ghaleon's favor in a match between the two, but we shall see.

Vergil will beat Ghaleon on the virtue of more people knowing who he is. Lunar is still a little too cult for Ghaleon to handle him, especially considering how recent DMC3 is.
