Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k4.com/extrapolated.php

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

Of course, there is a great deal of fodder in this contest, but we still have some contest powerhouses. Those will draw in votes where others won't, especially when you put two of them against each other.

wow, according to that link, if you push it out to the past two years, we are currently at the same level of site traffic as we were at the beginning of the SC2K3. we very well could have more casual voters and higher vote totals again.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1779

That's a Nintendo vs. Square matchup that took place in the final four of the Summer Contest. Now, Cloud is undoubtedly more popular, and a bigger vote getter, than Sephiroth ever will be. Samus is far more popular than Ganondorf. That match barely managed to get over 100,000 votes. I'm seriously doubting that Sephiroth vs. Ganondorf is a guaranteed 100,000 vote total. It may go over that, if it did it would be by very little.

I refused using Link / Cloud for this because those are the two biggest vote getters in the contest and it would be silly to use that as an example for this.

and if you look, the site was really at a low-point during last spring's contest, right after that Gamespot merger. the site's really improved it's traffic since then.

You're still dealing with lower site traffic last year than now. Even matches involving mid-tier characters got into the 90K range in SC2K3.

I already saw the traffic listing a while ago. And I have no doubt that we could very well see the return of multiple 100,000+ matches during the next Summer Contest. I just severely doubt we'll see such a thing happen in this villains contest. I also think the amount of bracket entries will be lower than even last year's 33,000 - or something around that.

Even with Sephiroth-Ganondorf, perennial powerhouses from the two biggest series on the site?

Heck, site traffic has even noticably increased since the contest was announced. People definitely seem to be interested.

Yes, I seriously doubt that even Sephiroth / Ganondorf is somehow a "guaranteed" 100,000 matchup. Look, I would love for it to do so and even hope it happens, but until I actually see the first few matches of the contest I'm not going to jump out and assume that we're going to start seeing insane vote totals again.

heh, this is the best review for Gamefaqs.com posted on that site:

1 of 5 stars It was cool,

When I first found this site, I thought it was the coolest thing on earth. I was on it everyday. Even before I was actualyl 13. The boards start getting really strict and people were getting banned left and right. Then he threatend to shut down the best board ever, LUE. He went totally mad. Then he changed the layout and made the boards look like crap. I left then ande never returned. Dont plan too, till it goes back to normal.

I just don't see why we wouldn't. Sure, we're dealing with a good amount of fodder, but we still have a bunch of characters that voters know and care about. Site traffic is much higher, and it's not like Sephiroth and Ganondorf DON'T draw voters. They're involved in 4 of the 10 matches with the highest vote totals.

Food for thought: the traffic now is higher than it was during the Final Four of the Summer Contest last year OR in the days before and after Halo 2's release OR the days following Christmas (which had a blockbuster line-up last year). I don't know how it compares with 2k3's numbers, but considering we had two contests going on last year that helped with traffic, we're still looking very strong in visits.

I think it has been easy to tell that the traffic is backup just from looking at the amount of people logged in. I remember a time when having 4000 was something, now it gets up to as high as 6000.

Yep. It is... I've been on the leaderboard at some point in every contest I've entered (2k3 and up). On the final leaderboard for SC2k4 tied for 10th place prize.... I really don't care anymore.

And if I DO get a prize this time (thanks to a better tiebreaker) I don't even care about the prizes. I'm about to graduate from college in a week and hopefully start working in DC in a month. Most likely I would give it away to my little brother or something....

I have saved pictures of every day I was on the Top Fifty list last year (both contests), heh, so it's not all that over-rated I think (unless you're already had your success, like you have)...I vow two things though, now that I've gotten some taste of success:

1) To break the Top Ten one day.
2) To finish in the Top Fifty on day.

Of course, my goal's to win a contest, but only so many people can win, heh.

Gordon vs Max was the lowest-scoring, and even that scored 91000+, higher than last year's barnburner, Frog vs Master Chief.

Incidentally, IIRC, site traffic on gaming sites in general spiked on October 3rd, '04.
