Are you guys saying it's easier to call Metroid/Diablo than it is Ridley/Diablo?

I'm certainly not goin' to speak for everyone on this...but, yes. It wouldn't be much easier and the winner of Metroid/Diablo would still take the Ruin Division, but when I think of the Metroid series, I actually envision the power-suckin' jellyfish-with-fangs before I think of Mother Brain or Ridley...and I dare say Samus too, but only because the metroids have their name in its title as opposed to Samus (that's a BIG reason why I don't speak for everyone, heh). I don't think it's impossible to think that metroids get at least equal exposure to Ridley and/or Mother Brain as well (Super Metroid excluded, due to me never finishing that game...but even then, a metroid's right on the title screen), and I think they get at least as much focus as Ridley or Mother Brain too (again, excluding SM, though I know Ridley makes an impact right at the beginning). Then for me, personally, those things strike more fear in me than Ridley or MB, and I think they're cooler to boot. I'd also think that any help Diablo would get from having his series named after him would be canceled out due to Metroid being a bigger series and on consoles, though I won't say the metroid would have an advantage 'cuz it's a standard bad-guy.

Yeah, it's weird, but I would feel even more confident about Metroid/Diablo than Ridley/Diablo.

M. Bison doesn't strike me as someone that those who were not big SF2 fans will know of and possibly vote for. I'd expect Ryu to get similar support from people who have just heard of him from being the lead character in the fabeled Street Fighter series.

Then you have GameFAQs, lovers of RPGs. Albedo not shown early in Xenosaga? I doubt it'll have too much of an affect. Assuming Xenogears got an SFF beatdown from FF7 last spring (which is likely), then Xenogears/saga may have the votebase here to push Albedo through.

And that BOP ratio of Bison to Albedo is insanely high.

And using vote margins from previous matches not involving the characters in this match are subject to big flaws. Bison could have a tough fight with Ken methinks, which tips the scales in Albedo's favor. Also, with Xenosaga Ep. 2 out, it's more strength possible for KOS-MOS, and therefore, Albedo.

But Ken would give KOS-MOS a pretty damn good match. Heck, didn't they both fight Samus and Ken beat KOS-MOS' score by 5 points? Sure, that was before Metroid Prime's boost, but Ken/KOS-MOS is a toss-up. If Bison can give Ken a run for his money and Albedo is visibly lower than KOS-MOS, Albedo's done for.

If Chun-Li would get 45% on Ken, and Bison would get 45% on Chun-Li, Albedo would need to get 34% on KOS-MOS to be able to beat Bison. I think that's reasonable.

There was a poll not long ago that had Star Fox: Assault being more anticipated than Episode 2, should memory serve me right. and i'm guessing that the gap between Ken and Bison will be much closer than the gap between KOS-MOS and Albedo.

HaRRicH - Samus went from barely escaping death at the hands of Sonic (SONIC!) to duking it out with the likes of Mario, Crono and Megaman for that 4th place in 2003. The rest is history, but Samus still performed a lot better in 2003 than in 2002.

My thoughts exactly. Samus can't have overperformed on Cloud, seeing how her first two matches projected her to get over 60% against Cloud, projections based on Sora still had Samus overshoot, and it wasn't until the match with Sonic that the projection became decent.

If anything, Samus had her worst match against Cloud last year.

Also consider how close Samus and Mega Man already were in 2002 just by common-opponent Sephiroth. She has a small boost, yes, but it wasn't anything spectacular.

It was WDF, not Link/Mario. Mario/Cloud had an anomaly of its own, namely SMS' release. Alucard and Tails, and by ricochet Auron, can testify to that.

Noticable, yes, but it didn't help all that much considering her game had gotten rave reviews basically everywhere and had won GotY here for MP. To go back to the original point though, seeing how Samus gained two-three points total overall and that Ken did about four points better against Samus 2k2 than KOS-MOS did against Samus 2k3, that puts them basically even. If this is all there is to it, it's all a matter of whether Bison is closer to Ken than Albedo is to KOS-MOS.

Now let's look at Ryu/KOS-MOS again. A 25,000 vote difference is a hell of a lot, like Slow pointed out. However, I got to looking...


2k3/2k4: Sonic > Ryu > Ken. In 2k3, Sonic beat Ken by over 40,000...then beat Ryu in 2k4 by almost 9,000 (I believe it was suspected Sonic gained a lil' strength back in 2k4, as a note).


...so assuming Sonic stayed static, that's 31,000 votes Ken is behind Ryu (if Sonic did gain strength, that makes the difference bigger), or 6,000 behind KOS-MOS if you wanna get very very transitive. You could pull out the question of "Is M. Bison 6,000 votes closer to Ken than Albedo is to KOS-MOS?" and probably give yourself a fit; I know it's getting me thinkin' harder right now, heh.

So...nothing decisive either way; just thought it'd be an interesting view.

I see Bison being pretty much round Ken's level. Apart from Ryu for some reason, people who will vote for a SF2 character in a match will likely vote for any of them, regardless of the opponent. I can't see there being mass ranks of diehard Dhalsim fans, for example. Same goes for Mortal Kombat.

But then you'd tihnk the same for say, Zelda, and Zelda then hsould have been as big as Ganon. Even in fighting games individual characters have their own strength and their own fans. We have several members of board 8 who'd vote for Ken but not Ryu. Knowing so many fighting game fans in my life I can pretty much assure you that unless the casuals are voting purely on what game the characters are from that Bison will in no way be as strong as Ken. I can name half a dozen SF2 characters that'd beat Bison in an actual contest match, he isn't that popular and it's rather amazing that he made it (I fear Ceej may have forgotten the existance of SFA/CvS2 and called Akuma ineligible)

After Ryu, I see most SF2 characters being around Ken's range, give or take a lil' bit. I wouldn't figure M. Bison (or most of the rest of the cast) would be above or below 5% of him if they were to have their values compared (head-to-head, there'd be SFF I'm not about to try to account for). That'd put most of SF2's cast on par with or better than Scorpion, who most of this board assumes to be the second-strongest MK character...

...a Ken/Sub-Zero match would be interesting right about now.

If you're looking at Scorpion's 2004 number, it's messed up, thanks to Sephiroth-Auron SFF. Scorpion would be projected to beat Ken around 56-44.

Bison is nowhere near the top of the ladder in the SF rankings. He's got Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Chun-Li at the least before he lands anywhere.
