Well, the bottom Nintendo guy is Master Hand with a 7, so I don't think it would have mattered if there was a cap or not.

Haste2:
I counted 6 Nintendo and 6 Square villains. (someone else count it to verify...) That's assuming Ansem counts as being Disney, like Sora. Think there might've been a company cap placed?

Very interesting idea...I think this is very plausible. Good catch if it's true.

And yes, I could see Master hand getting more noms than Wario.

I've got a decent grasp of the Hero>Villain theory, but the Solid/Liquid situation's rare because of how close they are to one-another in strength. While your numbers prove to be right when you consider MC's link boosted him about 1,000-1,400 votes, I don't think they are reliable enough to, well, rely on; you merely got a lucky guess out of it.

Plus, with this being the villain of a fighting game, this makes the hero much more ambigious, and I dare say non-existant. That, I think, should be enough to make your formula at least require some modifying, whatever it may be.

Speaking of company caps, how did:

1) Master Hand and Mother Brain get more nominations than Wario and Donkey Kong?

2) Ansem and Sin get more nominations than Seymour and Rufus Shinra?

I could see Rufus not getting enough nominations. I think Seifer was counted as a rival, and possibly Wario, too. As for DK, that is a mystery...CJayC just probably decided to go against his own rules. :/

1) Master Hand and Mother Brain get more nominations than Wario and Donkey Kong?

CJayC cut this off at 32 characters, meaning that it was close.

Still amazed Nemesis made it in (I nominated him in 2004 as well).

Kefka's division is making my head spin. Any of four characters could legitimately win that division--hell, maybe even five, if Wesker gets more support than expected from RE fans.

That's just amazing.

Random thoughts...

Jenova division eh? It's official: Sephiroth looks to be mind-controlling Ceej. That is why we have this contest after all...poor Ceej.

Andross' pic is quite fuzzy.

Wily's posing is actually kinda badass.

Ummm...THAT'S Mithos?

Ridley vs. Diablo might be the top pic match ever.

Why the water pic for Sin? Maybe he wants to avoid spoilers...but from what I'm hearing about Mithos, that ain't the case.

A match I haven't heard discussed yet is Sigma vs Bowser.

Before you laugh, please remember how well Zero has done in the contest environment.

Granted, I'm putting Bowser in my bracket, but I have a feeling that it won't be a blowout.

I don't think Sigma will be stronger than Zero. That leaves a roughly 2.5% gap for Sigma to be in and be above Bowser. It's possible, but I'm not going to say likely.

Kefka's division is absolutely nuts. My gut instinct is to put Diablo in the final four though. I actually considered putting him in the finals before stopping myself. ^^

The only other character that's stumping me at the moment is Kuja.

Anyone else think that Vergil might have problems with Ghaleon? The fact that he was only recognizable in DMC3 might be a slight problem.
From: cyko | Posted: 4/12/2005 12:33:49 AM | Message Detail
at first, i thought it was a bit of a tough call, but even on GameFAQS, Lunar still isn't that widely appreciated of an RPG. and Dante is one of the strongest performers out of the non-RPG characters. not counting RPG characters, Dante is roughly #15 with Kirby, Ryu, Alucard, Bowser, Liquid Snake, Master Cheif, Solid Snake, Zero, Ganon, Sonic, Megaman, Mario, Samus, and Link ahead of him. and if you narrow that down to action games, that leaves pretty much just the Snakes and MC ahead of him. that means Dante is one of the most popular characters from his genre on the site.

now, obviously Vergil won't be as strong as Dante, but even if he was only half as strong as Dante, it would still be enough to beat Luca Blight. and i seriously doubt Ghaleon will do any better than Luca.

Initial thoughts:

No Wario/Donkey Kong = disappointing.
Ridley = Final Four.
CATS will win. The prospect of a Ganondorf - CATS match is huge.
There's a few matches I don't have a clue about really, but I think we're all in the same boat. My last four is all the 1's except Ridley, last 8 is all 1/2 except Ocelot. Only first round seeding upsets I have are Luca Blight, M. Bison and CATS.
Will look more but I just did my bracket quickly.

From: darcy | Posted: 4/12/2005 1:37:33 AM | Message Detail
Initial thoughts/predictions:

1 Bowser VS Pyramid Head. Edge: Bowser

Certainty: 100%. No explanation necessary.

2 Sigma VS Andross. Edge: Sigma

Certainty: 90%. Mega Man over Star Fox.

3. Ocelot VS Nemesis. Edge: Ocelot

Certainty: 95%. Both mainstream but Ocelot is far more popular on Gamefaqs.

4. Dr. Wily VS Ultros. Edge: Dr. Wily

Certainty: 80%. Nah, as much as people like Ultros, he's too small of a character to compete in this case even if he is from Final Fantasy.

1. Sephiroth VS Ramirez. Edge: Sephiroth

Certainty: 110%. Rest in pieces Ramirez. Seriously try and get at least 5% of the total vote by the end of the day.

2. Vergil VS Ghaleon. Edge: Vergil

Certainty: 90%. Dante's evil bro vs a very small character on Gamefaqs who has no decent following whatsoever.

3. Lavos VS Mother Brain. Edge: Lavos

Certainty: 65%. This is Chrono Trigger vs a Metroid game. CT is worshipped here. That should be the difference.

4. Liquid Snake VS Officer Tenpenny. Edge: Liquid

Certainty: 100%. Liquid Snake will destroy this new character. He's got nothing on Liquid.
From: darcy | Posted: 4/12/2005 1:38:10 AM | Message Detail
1. Kefka VS Mithos. Edge: Kefka

Certainty: 100%. Good bye Mithos.

2. Luca Blight VS Wesker. Edge: Wesker

Certainty: 55%. Cult vs mainstream. Luca is overhyped by his fans and is made out to be stronger than he really is. He is weak, don't be deceived. On the other hand, Wesker is a new entry and an unknown despite being mainstream. Besides Luca being in the contest and Wesker not raises questions.

3. Albedo VS M. Bison. Edge: M. Bison

Certainty: 65%. Nah, Bison will take it. He is far more popular and comes from a well respected game to help him.

4. Ridley VS Diablo. Edge: er... Diablo...

Certainty: 5%. Crap, this is easily the scariest match of them all throughout the entire contest. Screwing this one up costs you bigtime later down the road as the fault will escalate and escalate. I saw this matchup and knew hell would break loose (pun not intended). Diablo is from Diablo. Simple enough? Blizzard games are massive on Gamefaqs to the surprise of many and Diablo has been in the top 50 games list for some time. Ridley is from Metroid though. This one is tough to call which is why the certainty level is so low. Could go either way.

1. Ganondorf VS Giygas. Edge: Ganondorf

Certainty: 100%. Next.

2. Ansem VS CATS. Edge: Ansem

Certainty: 85%. CATS is always being shown love here but this is apparently not enough. Ansem is from a popular game and was a good villian as well. CATS was and will continue to be a joke.

3. Dr. Robotnik VS Sin. Edge: Sin

Certainty: 15%. Aw man... The second toughest match to call in the first round. Sin is from Final Fantasy but Robotnik is like Bowser Jr. Very tough match to call. You're going to have to go with the gut feeling on this one. Trust no one but yourself.

4. Kuja VS Master Hand. Edge: Kuja

Certainty: 200%. Yes 200, not 20. IT'S A FRICKIN' HAND! I don't care what game it comes from. Wake up and stop smoking whatever it is you people are smoking.
From: jonthomson | Posted: 4/12/2005 1:40:09 AM | Message Detail
