Well, you do have a one in four shot given my guarenteed first place, but have at it Harrich.

And yeah, closing nominations any time now would be just great. Apparently board 8 didn't give enough nominations to support only us having that power, but do we need the nominations to last this friggin' long?

Hey, last year wasn't my fault. My pick for champion was off, and we still haven't got much reasoning as to why Link suddly jumped like that.

Link having games packed with the Gamecube and those always-rumored "anti-champion" votes were more than enough reason for me to take him...MUCH more the packed games than anti-votes. That's evident from what Link did to CATS and Crono though; I'm pretty sure both of them called what he'd do to Cloud almost exactly.

No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that his match with Crono estimated closer to 53 - 55% (54%?) on Cloud, if you assumed that Crono's performance was all Crono improving.

I'm not sure about CATS, and we all know why the Mega Man match wasn't exactly reliable...

I picked Link strictly due to the anticipated hype of the new Zelda and hope that CJayC will use match pictures from the new game. I also am in the minority in this topic that thinks that CJayC using solely Wind Waker pictures affected Link slightly. The voter base likely was the biggest factor however. You can't predict things like that though.

Continuing from the last topic, I see no reason that Angry Sun wouldn't be eligible.

First off, I don't think there are multiple Angry Suns--the logical thing would be to think there was only one, whom you face multiple times. So Angry Sun would seem to be "more" eligible than Goomba or Koopa Troop or Mass Carriers.

And I'm not sure whether Goomba or Koopa Troopa would be ineligible either--in fact, one of the first possible entrants for the contest I thought of was Goomba. They're pretty synonymous with video game villainy. It would be weird for "Goomba" not to make it. The primary argument against them would be that they are not a single character, not that they are minor--I don't think the "minor enemy" thing matters, outside of the "not a single character" thing. I see no reason why a minor enemy, as long as they are unique, couldn't make it. The contest rules say nothing about "boss level" being a prerequisite; anybody you fight that qualifies as a villain would count. CJayC would probably remove Goomba and Koopa Troopa if they made it, because of their multiple nature; but nothing on the rules page actually disqualifies them.

Things like "minor" and "boss" might be tough to define for certain games anyway.

And I think Kefka is a pretty good bet for a #1 seed. Especially with Magus out.

Most Guru brackets are going to be submitted on May 1st, right after the bracket predictions lock down... But if you're not going to be able to make it online that day, don't worry. You could either e-mail your full bracket to both me and Ulti (ngamer@gmail.com) a few days before the first, or just post your bracket on the 2nd or 3rd. The only problem would be if the first 8/9 matchup is really tough to call... but we'll see how tight that one's looking before making any final decisions.

And remember, all, we're not posting our brackets here! There will be a special topic for it, Ulti's going to create. But don't worry, you won't be able to miss it, I'm sure it will be linked to alot from this topic.

Speaking of linking to outside this topic... last chance to get your Final 64 predictions in!

Final Fantasy IV (IIus) **SPOILERS**

I keep seeing people who expect that Golbez will make the contest. However he seems to pretty clearly be ineligible. I nominated him myself, but thought it was a wasted nomination; I just put him in out of respect. How could Golbez be eligible? Though he never joins your party, he's like Magus.

I'd love to see him make it, but by the rules he shouldn't. The only reason he might is because of CJayC's ignorance; if he never played the game, he might not realize that Golbez is ineligible.

Has this been discussed before? Because I keep seeing people who predict that Golbez will be in.

I did a fairly thorough analysis on how we have good reason to believe that 2K4 Link was the strongest character we had yet seen, improved from earlier incarnations. I don't recall now what that analysis actually was, since it's been a while; but I recall it being somewhat robust.

Another year...another contest...another chance to enlighten the masses with another finely tuned, precision honed edition of...

Yo ho ho! The words that enflame the newbies, cause laughter in the pudge rolls of the socially inept, and bring delight to anyone who calls themselves a gamer...yes these are the words of yours truly, and not another EA Press Release where they spout off about which publishing house they bought this week or whose license rights they acquired exclusivity on... But that is another bashing for another time...

For today instead I must praise the SECOND of my 10 beautiful nominations. The hallowed infamous ten I would desire so greatly to see...but likely will not see most of them because of noobs and tired fads...such as the Clueless CATS supporters...peeps who are still trapped in 2002 and just cant seem to block that summer from their minds...instead desiring to repeat the joke nom again...and again...and again.

Not to mention the reinvigorated members of the Square Legions...those with 'Jenova' tattooed on their arm, who live breathe sleep and eat the world of FFVII, munching on Nibelheim Steaks (burgers) and sipping down 7th Heaven Margaritas (mountain dews) while staying at the Honey Bee Inn, otherwise known as their unkempt bedrooms! We all know 10 or so of these types of peeps...those who stacked their nomination deck with multiple votes for Sephy, with a pint of Rufus on the side.

So without further adieu...in no real order...

Nomination 2: Atma
Game Origin: FFVI
Villiany "Badness" Meter: In his day, pretty decently bad, but not too bad...he had other traits about him...
Potential for Bracket Glory: Less Than Nil...he wont even make the cut cause when peeps think FFVI, all they think about is Kefka... Kefka this...Kefka that...Man he aint got nothing on Atma...or Dullahan...or even Ultros!

Comments: Yep, no way I could let my favorite game of all time go by without a worthy nomination. Sure, I thought long and hard about giving it to Phunbaba, being that he looked like the boogie-man and all, or to possibly give it to the Dirt Dragon from the Opera House, one of the 8 dragons who were all tougher to beat than your average RPG boss today....

But nope..Atma won out. The great screen filling Atma...the mythical beast who you find as he is sitting on the crapper in the latrine's at the Kefka Hotel. Of all the places to put an epic boss fight, it is on the commode... Paradox? Coincidence? A slap at the face of Nintendo's licensing agreement with Square in those days? Nah... It was what Kefka thought of the almighty Atma...who spoke the chilling words that struck fear into the hearts of Locke's and Celes's and Relm Arrowny's everywhere...

"I'm Atma...Forgotten in the river of time....and on a crapper I do reside..."

OK so he did not say that last part...but anyway, he made up for it by the most excellent boss music...a track that makes the regular rotation on my IPod when I am at the gym or out running along the riverfront....still 12 years later one of the best boss theme music tracks ever.

So Atma, I salute you with a nomination...and it might be the only one you get, so dont forget to flush that toilet and wipe the seat off!

Same thing for Ganon and Yoshi; lord knows those aren't reliable, heh. My bad on Crono then, but I'm pretty certain CATS had it called.

I just remembered about RPGuy96's program and I input the information for Link vs. CATS on that, and it said that if CATS was staying constant, Link would have changed to 55.5464% on Link.

Since I am absolutely terrible at math, I'm not going to try my hand at figuring anything else out. >_>

Well, going by CATS, Link should've beaten Cloud by more than he did. Link through Mario via Crono provided a closer figure, though Cloud still overperformed a bit.

I stand corrected then. Cloud beat Vyse almost exactly as expected though, so I'd still take it as Cloud over-performing against Link...but that's STILL weird, considering Link had both the bracket advantange and any anti-last-year's-champion votes (however minimal) that may have went in Link's favor.
