Oh, I agree with Leonhart on this one, thinking the same thing. I saw
that and thought basically the same thing, ie, the contest will
actually be starting next week. What I did think though was that we
would be getting brackets, just a lot less time to fill them out.

He does a large portion of them beforehand. Usually the whole first round isn't it??? Or maybe it was just the first division...

This is taken from Message Board Announcements where CJayC made a post:
Nominations will be open through the 10th, and the contest should open for entry early next week.
That makes me sort of think that the brackets will be ready to fill out sometime next week for entry into the contest, but that's just me.

heh, i assumed it meant the bracket would be up next week. the contest would be pretty pointless without a bracket to analyze.
ah well, say good-bye to some of the Board 8 favorites (Angry Sun, Duck Hunt Dog, possibly even Dark Samus) and say hello to more worthless fodder. i mean, who from Board 8 nominated Tanner or Ryo Hazuki or Ratchet last year? that means more characters noone from Board 8 cares about.

i'd be willing to bet that the contest will start on May 1st, giving us
almost three weeks to fill out a bracket. that seems reasonable. i
mean, noone needed a full month to fill out there bracket the last few
contests. in fact, the last week or so before the contest started got
kinda boring anyways since we had already analyzed everything there was
to analyze.

Final Fantasy IX seeming too "cult" is the main reason many thought DK

I would say that more casual gamers coming through the site would have
played FFIX more than VI and would vote Kuja, but that is offset by the
fact that most people on this site who have played both would vote
Kefka, at least I think they would. I would probably go with Kuja, but
can't make a compelling argument for doing so.

Yeah, the MBA post makes it clear that the bracket is coming next week.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the contest will begin on
May 1st.
And to the doombringers, all but 1½ weeks of the contest will take place in the spring, and last year's summer contest began on August 1st. I don't really think there's an issue here. As for the 32 character thing, I've never understood why that was even brought up. It makes no sense.

That's true, but there's nothing that makes me thing Kuja would be that
strong either. He doesn't do much that makes him memorable, he has a
few cool quotes but so do a lot of villains. I think Vivi did well
because he is genuinely thought of as a good character by most people
who have played the game, and he didn't benefit as much from the
strength of FFIX. I think votes for Kuja would be more along the lines
of votes for IX and he would be considerably weaker because of it.

Well yes, I guess that is memorable but I was thinking more along the
lines of his emotions and development as a character. He develops some
when he finds out what he truly is , but I don't find it anything
special considering Zidane is going through the same thing at the same

Oh well. *weeps for Dark Samus*
Still, you like to bring up Tanner, Ryo and Ratchet, but board 8 has a tendency to nominate complete wimpolas like Luca Blight or Laharl. It's not much better. Well, whatever.
And I'm pretty sure that by "contest" he means "bracket-making period", which is the core of the "contest" part of the battle.

i'll repeat what i said earlier about doubting that the Summer Contest will be a Hero Contest.
From: cyko | Posted: 4/7/2005 7:28:40 PM | Message Detail
also, i'm getting the feeling that Ceej will keep giving us the Great Character Battle as our Summer Contest, but give us a different theme for each Spring Contest to give us a chance to see characters and whatever that we wouldn't normally see in a contest.
for example, i'm seriously betting that next Spring we will have a Greatest Female Character battle next Spring, seeing how few female characters make it into the Summer Contest. (i'm sure most of you guys would love to see Samus win a contest anyways. =P) then, i wouldn't be surprised if we had a Best Series Ever Contest, and then maybe Spring 2008 would be a good time for an updated Best Game Ever Contest. as far as i'm concerned, i'd take take these differently themed contests over a Best Game Ever Contest every year anyways, but 4 years between Game Contests seems like a good chunk of time for people's opionions to evolve and more great games to come out.
that's pure speculation of course, but i have convinced myself that there will be a Greatest Female Character Battle next spring.

Still, you like to bring up Tanner, Ryo and Ratchet, but board 8 has a tendency to nominate complete wimpolas like Luca Blight or Laharl. It's not much better. Well, whatever.
lol, that's the point i was making. instead of getting fodder that we like, we get fodder that noone on Board 8 cares about.

Few discussion ideas that came to mind:
My ranking of the top twenty villains, pre-contest... Let's see how many I get right.
Sephiroth
Bowser (just a hunch... Ganon hasn't proven anything just yet)
Ganondorf
Liquid Snake
Revolver Ocelot
Kefka
Ridley
Dr. Wily
Lavos (but I ain't sure at all on this guy)
Kuja
Donkey Kong (if he gets in)
Wario
Robotnik
Dark Samus
Tenpenny (does he count?)
M. Bison
Sigma
Ansem
Albedo
Andross
Another thought that came to mind. Which character do you think will be the Aeris of this year (ie, the one that gets shockingly left out of the bracket). My guess is either Donkey Kong or Kuja.
