There have always been restrictions. The only difference now is that they are more explictly defined. For example you have to nominate a character for the character contest. And that's not as simple as it sounds consdering the whole "Mass Carriers" thing.

"Evil" protagonists (Kratos from God of War)
Seeing as how you control Kerrigan she would fall in to the evil protagonist category, so I definatly wouldn't be suprised if she weren't allowed. The point of the contest is more of best antagonist, not best villian. Or at least that is what the limitation on entrants leads me to believe. Wheather thats biased against genres like fighting games and RTS is irrelevant. That being said, I doubt we'll see Kerrigan.

i'll guess that they will be open until Saturday at 6:00 PM. then the bracket will be up that night or the next day. although, Ceej doesn't seem to be opening these nominations up to everyone. i'm not sure if he's gonna post something on the home page or not, now that his topic has hit 500 and will purge soon.

Looking around the board... man, what an impact Dark Samus is making. And the bracket isn't even out.
Question: would Dark Samus really be as much of an outlet for Samus votes as is feared?
Honestly, I gotta question that. I kinda doubt DS would rank an easy second if Mario and Dark Link end up on the sidelines. Even if Ganondorf ranks ridiculously far behind regular Samus.
Gotta pity Ridley though... every time he's primed to appear in the contest, then his best chance yet comes and he gets his spotlight stolen.

However, Kerrigan, aside from Mengsk of course, is the one character
completely bent on galactic domination. The Protoss and Terrans, Mengsk
and the Conclave aside, are pretty much made out to be the good guys,
and the Zerg the baddies. It may or may not have to do with us actually
tending to side with the Terrans for obvious reasons, but whatever.

I suggest you go check out Tai's topic about nominations. The compiling
of the first 50 posts is done, and the results are pretty cool, except
for Kefka getting so little support. Dark Samus is actually in the top
10.

If you played the games, you'd understand. The whole appeal of Dark
Samus comes from the terrific boss fights and cutscenes she's involved
in. Much better than what she can claim in her Metroid Prime form.

On Kerrigan. Playing as the villain is different from playing with the villain. It's easy to look at Starcraft and see Kerrigan as the biggest villain, and Tassadar as the good guy.

Why not just keep her as Dark Samus? There shouldn't be a problem with it at all. When you're portrayed as the main villain of a game and this same game does not tell you that it's a different form from the previous game, there's no reason to not include her, or go back to her previous form. She is far better as Dark Samus than Metroid Prime.

MP2. i can understand your reasoning, then. if that is the case then,
yeah i could definitely see her picking up quite a few casual votes.
not enought to beat Sephiroth or anything astronomical, but still
enough based on her name recognition - especially if she winds up
against one or more villains few casual gamers have heard of.

I'll personally be happy if DS is in Sephy's division. Sephy's half of
the bracket will be meh, and being on the other half woull make me sad.
That's not to say she'd be guaranteed to the finals...but, she'd have a
good shot.

Sephiroth and Ganon are popular because of themselves, not because they have a popular, good guy version. The only way I wouldn't mind Dark Samus getting in would be if she was a 16 seed pitted against Sephy first round.

I had DK at first...and as soon as somebody told me that Vivi came
from FF9 (and wasn't the lead), I immediately switched and never looked
back. To be fair, I did think it'd be close though.
I never actually had DK, but I thought it would be closer, Vivi winning just off of the BMF.

Depends on how much help Vivi got from being a black mage. I don't
think that was a big factor, so I tend to think Kuja could do fairly
well. Kefka-ish, give or take.
