Well, a variety of things, most of which I don't remember all that well. There's been discussion of how well Viewtiful Joe, Mewtwo, Dr. Wily, and afew others will do next year...but right now, it's about today's poll, where Sub-Zero's beating Scorpion.

I think a Scorpion/Sub-Zero 8-9 match should be mandatory next year after today's results, dammit. I also wish Reptile and Goro were in this match, but ah well, maybe next time. Raiden > Scorpion > Sub-Zero in my book, regardless.

And I don't see what's so funny about Liu Kang and
Raiden being popular. Liu Kang is supposed to be
the ‘‘Ruy’’/Good guy/hero of MK, and he even had that
role in the movie, which actually had a lot to do with the
game. And Raiden is just so cool, with his flying attack
and all. I believe he was the most popular character in
Brazil, at least around where I lived.

Again, have a Scorpion/Sub-Zero match as an 8/9 match next
year. Winner takes all, we finally get this settled, nobody
can complain about one or the other being left out. At
least that'd be a match with alot of speculation, and
Sub-Zero can beat the likes of Ratchet with no doubt in my
mind. The only problem would be SFF, but hey, this would be

I just remebered that I paid $60 for MKII when it first came out. It was regularly priced @ $60 at Toys R' Us. Every console game today won't go over $50, unless it's got like, extra stuff. It was indeed a great game, but all the babality/friendship stuff just sucks. The characters are great though (most of 'em, anyway).

Dang; being barely better than SFF'd Donkey Kong must suck royal ass for Kazuya. I'd still like to see Jin make it in just as fodder though, so at least we don't unfairly judge him based on Kazuya; I always understood that Jin was to Tekken as Ryu is to Street Fighter.

We need Jin for Mario-fodder, 2005. I also second Ulti's thought that Mario should always be a 1-seed.

Eek...don't underestimate Mario. He faced a powered up Crono this year and he DID beat Cloud once. Unless some future MGS game is groundbreaking, Mario'll never struggle beating Solid Snake. If Magus wants any hope of beating Mario, he'll need a couple more years of increasing at his current rate.

I'm surprised Kazuya was the character to be picked out of all of the Tekken characters...I've only played Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag, and even though I played it a few times, I never used Kazuya. In fact, I never even remembered him existing (that is, until I played it again this summer). As a matter of fact, when I saw his bio in the 2002 I thought that Kazuya might've been a certain other character I liked to use (Jin). Hey, with enough stretching you can see the similarites, right? =P Yeah, I'm bad with names. Kinda reminds me of how I tried to "re-familiarize" myself with Kyo Kusanagi when I first saw him in the S2K2 contest, when I've never even seen him before, either. :P

Rayden is in 3rd place...that's nice. I was hoping he'd do better, though. He's my favorite guy in that game. Hey, if Sub-Zero can't beat Scorpion then maybe Rayden could beat Scorpion. =P

I have two comments about your bracket janus.

Luigi / Serge = very good match. i love luigi but he isn't as popular as he should be. serge is yet to be seen in strength so this match could easily go either way.

Jill / Tidus = I don't get it. Jill is stronger than Kirby and shows better against Squall than Luigi, get sort of ripped off by bracket votes against Ryu Hayabusa. There is no reason why Jill shouldn't be at least an 11 seed, and even that seems a little poor for someone who has done so well. If she gets fair treatment in 2k5 she should make it past round 1 easily.

Kitana would be a much surer bet to topple Gordon.

Kitana has always been my girl in MK, and as much as I would love to see her in the contest, as much as Ulti did seeing Laharl, I know realistically she is "too niche" to make it over a SubZero or a Raiden. I would agree she could beat Gordy, as well as lots of midcarders like Jak, Ratchet and Vyse.

I agree Scorp needs to go and Subby or Raiden in his place. Raiden would allow for awesome pics and he is well known even among non fighting gamers based on appearance.

And as for the comment about Mokujin and Tekken characters...LOL Mokujin! Hahaha Stupid tree stump...

I still think there would be little difference between MK and MK2 if they had a common opponent, like FF3/6. I'm sure MK2 would be a lil' stronger though, which is why I think Doom/MK2 would be a good match.

Well it certainly doesn't draw nearly the amount of traffic. According to Alexa.com, the Link vs. Cloud match drew more site traffic to the site than has been here in 2 years.

The site traffic is still staying at very high levels even after the contest - I think it looks like new people who came to the site during that match might be staying...

Actually, at a glance, it looks like vote totals in the normal polls are up as well. I was just looking at some of the polls before this contest, and many of them either didn't break or barely broke 50,000 votes. The recent ones are getting around 58,000 - 65,000 votes...

Well, in Golf, excluding the PGA, when two golfers play together and one simply outclasses the other, there is a handicap system that makes it fair. For instance, say a golfer with a handicap of 2 shoots 75, and a golfer with a handicap of 10 shoots 82. The golfer with an 82 wins. The whole point is not to show who's the better player, but to determine a match by who performed better according to their abilities, or something like that.

I don't know. Golf is a weird sport.

CJayC: Got the mail; I can't really consider it, because of legal and ethical reasons. Rest assured that next year's contest will be quite a bit different, though.

Says it all, really. I didn't ask him what he was planning, for very obvious reasons. It would sort of kill the surprise. I think that any MMO game that made it into the contest would do far better than it ever should. They have the unfair advantage of a whole slew of people being online and playing the game. I mean, look at how Starcraft did! I'm not saying it is not a great game, but the fact that people were online playing the game helped it a lot.

Although FFXI can't really be played in windowed mode (I'm sure some people have found ways), so it would be a huge hassle for people to logout just to go vote on a website. Who knows, but I think any match involving an online game (ie. Starcraft, Halo 2, etc...) will be VERY hard to predict.

A three way would be better than a tag team IMO. Unless you had some fairly stacked teams (talking two top 16 characters in the same team or higher - of course, you'd have 128 characters in this if you keep the same format), I've no doubt that Link+fodder would beat any other team, regardless of who they are. I'd back Link & Gordon Freeman against any team which had one character below the Zero/Ganondorf/Magus/Snake area. The secondary character would be insignificant and it would boil down to Link & fodder vs Cloud & fodder. The two characters would have to be capable of taking enough votes off Link *independently* to win, and no two characters below that line would be able to IMO.

Three way is more interesting - imagine semi finals of Link-Sonic-Snake, Cloud-Seph-Crono (SFF-ilicious, I know) and Mario-Samus-Mega Man. Plus you allow 81 characters in, giving you room to add 17 new people and keep the rubbish, and it's over in 40 days as well.

And, noticing Ulti's sig, is that enough people promoting Ridley to make it "huge board support" now?

I don't like the idea of tag-team that much.

In order for 2 vs. 2 to even feasibly work, you have to pair up characters of roughly equal strength from different companies. Knowing Ceej, though, he'd probably do something dumb like teaming up Link and Ganon.

3-way sounds pretty cool. 40 matches is the perfect length for the contest (always thought that 64 was a wee bit too long), and it'd be hard as hell to predict in general.

You know what would be even greater about a system like this? Think about how much less effective vote-stuffing would be.

Okay. I have a ridiculously complicated idea that would make a 3 way longer and more interesting, but Ceej would never do it. Let's discuss!

First Round:
You hold your first round matches normally. This takes 27 days (3 divisions with 27 characters = 9 matches per division). Each match is worth 1 point for the correct winner.

Second Round:
Every character that wins a match moves on to the winner's bracket. Assuming perfect seeding (no upsets), the matches go like this: 1/6/9, 2/5/8, and 3/4/7 for each division. Each match is worth 2 points for the winner. This takes 9 more days (total = 36).

The runner up character from each round one match goes at it in the "Runner's Up Bracket (RUB)." Theoretically, it would be: 10/13/18, 11/14/17, and 12/15/16 for each division. This takes 9 more days (total = 45) and each winner is worth 2 points.

3rd Round:
Divisional Championships (1/2/3 x3), takes 3 days, (total = 48), each one is worth 4 points.

The second round runner ups in the winner's division clash (4/5/6 x3). The second round RUB winner's clash (10/11/12). Each winner is worth 4 points. This takes 6 days (total = 54).

4th Round:
Winners get a bye. The RUB winners of last round meet the runner ups of the 3rd round (theoretical 2 seeds), and clash by division (2/4/10 x3). Then, each winner of these matches clash (2/2/2). Each winner is worth 9 points, and this takes 4 days (total = 58).

5th Round:
Championship match (1/1/1). Then, take both runner ups and have them face the RUB bracket winner (1/1/2). Each winner is worth 18 points, and this takes two days (total = 60).

So there you go. 60 days, a RUB, and 171 total points.

You get closer seeds coming together in a normal bracket (4/5, 3/6, 8/9, 7/10, 2/3, 1/2).

The only matches that strike me as being really good in a 3 way are the 1/2/3, 3/4/7, and 9/10/19.

Yep, even though I like this Triple Threat idea, I'd rather go with the traditional bracket. However, I still think the better twist would be a four pack round robin, & I'm just not a fan of the tag-team idea.

I concur, but I have a feeling he would take a lot of casual bracket makers with him. Like the Vivi vs. DK match. Of course, that would ruined my bracket, but then, I just can't bring myself to go against Donkey Kong. Even against a Final Fantasy Character, on a site that worships FF as much as this one.

On a close match, that is. Against -- who was it, Sephiroth? -- I had him losing, of course.

What would people think of a Donkey Kong vs. Fox McCloud matchup? I have DK vs. Tails in my bracket, but I think this would also be a very interesting match.

I can see where the argument against 3-ways comes from. Supposing Link and Cloud are in different divisions, and they both make it to the finals, the winner will not depend on who's the most popular, but who's been the luckiest with bracket placement: if the third character is Sephiroth, Link wins, if it's Samus, Cloud wins. So the main drawback is, we may not have a champion based on merit.

Although being raped by Sora twice was incredibly painful, nothing can compare to being utterly destroyed by nifboy in the Guru challenge.

Without sinking into overrepresentation, I can only think of Aeris, Zelda and possibly, POSSIBLY Morrigan. That's still a solid 9-seed, and we're not going to ***** and moan about ONE SEED, right?

I like Slowflake's point system, as well as the 1x1x1 bracket thing. I can almost see a poll asking us that.

And for the Spring Contest, I think FF VII should be retired. Many games have a shot at OoT, which might not even be all that strong next year. So, for the SPRING contests, winners should definitely be retired.

You know what looks like an interesting match up for me? CATS vs Kirby (or any other not that strong character).

Then we can see something more about voters. CAts got board votes and anti-link votes. It didn't really get votes from actual ''CATS fans''. If kirby takes in Links spot, CATS will still only get votes from board voters and anti-kirby fans. The group will stay around the same, which means kirby could get above 80% on CATS. I wonder if I'm right with this theory, or that Kirby would just get what he is expected to get in extrapolated rankings.

And I think Kirby gets 80%+ on CATS. I think the votes he gets are core voters he will get against anyone. Whether it be Ryo or Link. He is nothing but a fad, and the casual voter probably has no affiliations with him, and as such will not vote for him over anyone.

I'd agree with that. I don't buy the "CATS has a static fanbase" at all. If that was true, he should do better with low vote totals against a similar opponent, and he did worse this year against Link than he did last year against Cloud.

I think that CATS is on a downward spiral of sorts.

One problem with that is CATS has been one of the most consistant performers over the three Summer Contests. Actually, CATS is THE most consistant performer in the Summer Contests.

CATS 2k4 vs 2k3 Link - 13.05%

Of all the characters that have been in all three contests, CATS has the smallest difference between his best and worst performance.

As far as other stable characters goes, CN used Cloud as constant between 2k3 and 2k4, but given KHF, it would be a bad idea for him to be used as the universal constant, and I used Mario, who really wouldn't be a bad constant as far as performance goes, but I think it's better to have a higher up (Link) be used as a universal constant.

Also, if you go by my stats, CATS 2k4 is expected to get 13.36% on Link2k3, shortening the performance gap even more.

I have no doubt that before this contest there were many people who had never heard of Magus (vote totals vote his matches would support that possibility), yet it's obvious that he has a very deffinite place in this contest being almost unarguably the 4th strongest Square in the contest. Just because a few rare people haven't heard of Vincent doens't mean he wouldn't be a powerhouse. Frankly, he would be. Anybody that does't know who he is didn't play FF7 and wouldn't care anyway, those people are not really going to hurt Vincent anymore than they hurt Cloud and Seph.

Being in SeeD did nothing for you other than give you pointless mission stuff that you don't need to bother passing because you only get money for being a SeeD and if you need it that bad you can just take the tests until you're the highest rank. But you get money from monsters so what's the point? I like FF8 though. Hard to tell from my criticisms though.

While we're on the subject of "revolution", I see a lot of Nintendo ads these days, for PM:TYD, what else. Except these are the best ads Nintendo made in a helluva long time. And they even went through the trouble of translating them in French for the Quebec audience, something I have never seen before.

The core problem of Nintendo was image and marketing... and when you put Nintendo and marketing together these days, you get the magic problem-solving six-letter word. Yep, hiring this guy was a stroke of genius.

I think the ads Nintendo has been doing are a hell of a lot better than they have been.

At the very least, the other kids in my classes (17 - 18) don't cringe whenever a Nintendo commercial comes on during this news thingy we have to watch in the morning.

But, still, I love that OoT commercial. Just found it a few days ago and it kicked ass. ^_^

Reggie is the best thing that has happened to Nintendo -- from a marketing perspective -- in a long, long time. It isn't a matter of being so much better than Sony at it, as it is getting the games they sell out there to people. Up until recently there were virtually no advertisements for Nintendo's games. Soon after E3 -- although Reggie was hired in December 2003 -- the commercials started flying. I've seen plenty of advertisements from Game Boy to GameCube. Getting it out there is definitely going to help them compete next-generation.


Reggie also raised VH1's ratings by 31% and created the "Big Foot" ad for Pizza Hut as prior advertising contributions. The man knows what he is doing.

Mario vs. Mega Man vs. Sonic would be a very interesting three way match.
I have a feeling, or rather, that I'd expect Mario to take it fairly easily. I think there are 3 major fanbases in GameFAQs: Fans of Nintendo, fans of Squaresoft, and everything else. So...Nintendo fans will go mostly for Mario, Squaresoft fans will be split among the three, and the rest will mostly be split between Mega Man and Sonic. That's my opinion, though.

I don't think there's enough Pokemon fans to allow something to win other than Pikachu in a "Favorite Pokemon" poll.

Now, if we had a very limited list, MAYBE someone else could win...

Heh, Sneasel is HORRIBLE in battling in Pokemon GSC...he's fast, but he can't attack worth garbage. He IS Ice/Dark, though, and that automatically makes him cool.

Okay. ^_^ Nintendo hired him to be in charge of Sales/Marketing, from my understanding. He worked with VH1 for awhile, and apparently he rose their ratings by 31%. So he doesn't actually appear in any of the commercials.

He is the one who everyone is talking about when they talk about the whole "Reggie-lution" thing.

He also did Nintendo's E3 Press Conference, for the most part.

I just noticed something interesting: I went back and redid my Auron calculations, basing the new Auron off of a static Auron/Tails relationship. And I got 33.56% for Auron against 2k3 Link, which makes him the 11th strongest character (behind Gdorf, ahead of Zero). He might be someone to watch out for next year.

I have two things of note. One, I can't seem to access polls older than Cloud/Link. Two, would it be terribly time-consuming for you to switch around the "Expected % against Link" and the "Expected % against Cloud" columns in the 2003 Xsts? They feel backwards.

Oh yeah, and you have Snake listed as having only gone to the first round in the most recent Xst table. He went to the fourth round, not the first.

As someone who didn’t own a Playstation until after it had the redesign and well after FFIX came out (so around late 2002, I think), I was under the impression that Solid Snake was one of the big mascots for the Playstation. I remember that MGS was Sony’s big release the year that OoT came out. I was personally more familiar with Solid Snake than I was with any other Sony exclusive character.

Of course, I don’t suppose that means much, being completely anecdotal, but whatever. ^_^

I'd say it's safer to assume Auron would beat Tidus, actually. Auron is expected to beat Tidus by a lot this year, while Tidus was expected to barely edge out Auron last year (all of those comments taking into account both Tidus and Auron adjustments).

In fact, UNADJUSTED Auron is expected to beat ADJUSTED Tidus with 53.71%, going by 2004 numbers.

For the PSX mascot, it really depends on your definition, but I still like to say it's Crash Bandicoot, because he was THE character to compete with Mario, and he didn't do too bad, either.

That reminds me...anyone think the disappointments of Mario and Zelda are a huge reason why GC is in 3rd place? Just imagine if Zelda: OoT and Super Mario 64 were on the GameCube instead of the N64...

Super Mario Sunshine was disappointing. It had a horrible design at times, and you would think that they would have learned to fix up that camera issue after the joke that was SM64. A hole with a shadow is not good enough.

Considering that the camera in Mario 64 is still better than most cameras in todays games I do have to say you're crazy. It wasn't prefect, but in it's day it was the best it could be, and continued to be as such for a long time.

Speaking of changes, the site traffic has maintained traffic levels higher than 2003's average traffic for nearly 3 weeks now. Even if it does drop, I think it might be safe to say that traffic has recovered. I'm not sure what caused the change now, though.

At first, I thought that Link vs. Cloud had been the catalyst - the spike in site traffic began around the beginning of October, so it seemed like it made sense.

But like someone pointed out (I'd give you credit if I remembered who. =(), IGN and GameSpot both had similar sized jumps.

Any ideas what happened?

I noticed something about Snake/Knuckles...compare each of their final percentages to their prediction percentages...

2k2 - Solid Snake over Knuckles by 60.71% - predicted by 76.18%
2k3 - Solid Snake over Knuckles by 63.13% - predicted by 79.70%
2k4 - Solid Snake over Knuckles by 59.54% - predicted by 68.18%

...how could this have happened when MGS:TTS was released this spring and MGS3 hype was on the way? After all, wasn't that what many people were using for reasoning when explaining MC's increase, including myself? Surely Sonic Heroes didn't make that many people think Knuckles could beat Solid Snake this time, even after losing pretty badly the last two times, did it? Maybe it was because of Kefka who made Solid Snake's prediction-percentage so low, even if Yuna couldn't get near that last year? Could this be a sign that bracket-voting really matters?

Their series of matches are just weird.

That for some reason, Kefka was much stronger in terms of bracket support this year (he was favored to win against Knuckles, remember?), and that it might be why 30% of the brackets had Snake stopping in round 2.

I'm curious to know how many of these 30% had Liquid going to the Sweet 16, effectively outlasting Snake.

Nonetheless, Zero not getting SFFed against Megaman speaks wonders for the X series, and that's why I think MMX wins here.

That's all it needs to do... leave the rest to the Koreans.

If you believe SMW got some sort of SFF against Sonic 2, then picking SF2 isn't all that smart. But it seems most of us here have discarded this theory, and as such SF2 ranks above Sonic 2. But the question asks itself... S3&K is often said to be the best Sonic game ON THE BOARDS, but would it have more support overall? I personally hope so, because I think it's by far the best Sonic game ever. But then again, SF2 did way too poorly when compared to its lead character. How in the world did that happen? Was it a fluke? A lot of questions deserve to be asked here, and as such it's one of my favorites throughout the bracket.

What, you expected excitement out of a 2-15 match? 15 is the only seed to have never won a match in a contest...

Say what you will, I still can't believe Soul Calibur did as well as it did this spring. The X-Sts project an easy way for SC over KOTOR, but three things. First, we're trying to use the ever so ****ed up division 128 to explain stuff, and that may not be the most reliable thing to do. Second, although Sora and Master Chief doing much better than expected last contest led us to write off the "Starcraft variable strength" idea, we may be playing with fire assuming stuff about Starcraft, given the massive awareness of the matches against Wind Waker and SSBM not only on B.Net, but throughout the Internet. Third, it's SC2 we're talking about, not the original. The latter has been played by less people who loved it for the most part, but SC2, while it did much better sales-wise, and was on PS2, GC and X-Box as opposed to Dreamcast, is more of a love-hate affair. Not unlike Chrono Cross or Majora's Mask. But despite all that, and GameFAQs not being all that fighting game-friendly, I predict SC2 wins such a match. After all, I'd hurt myself bad if I went against the X-Sts and got it wrong to boot.

A recent poll tends to indicate MK2 would hold somewhat more power than the original in contests. However, is that really the case? Would the "2" change the behavior of some of the voters? An interesting match from an intra-series competition point of view, but SMB1 still wins comfortably. It's a good chance to gauge it too, because it could be really strong because of its historic impact or perform like crap because it's outdated and overshadowed by most Mario games ever since. That's the only chance MK2 has, and I doubt it's strong enough to seize it.

(4) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
(13) Doom

Old game that redefined violence in video games vs. upcoming installment of a newer series that redefined violence in video games. In that kind of match, the old-timer hardly has a chance.

The Sims is the best-selling game, all systems combined, this generation... let's see how many front-page bracketmakers take the bait. Because that's what it is, bait for the casuals. Though FF1 DID have a strong bracket backing this spring...

Both games got somewhat similar loss margins. One was to FF7, the other to SMW. The winner's easy for us to decide... but once again, what about the casuals? Decidedly, this division looks like a widowmaker, especially for them. It's my favorite, too.

Tetris being allowed to win two matches, TWO MATCHES!!! shows just how the brackets by era are unbalanced. Imagine, if you will, Ryo Hazuki making the Sweet 16 of a Summer Contest WITH ABSOLUTE EASE. That's about the same thing. Tetris is meant to get blown out 75-25 in the first round, not to blow out 75-25 in the first round. </rant>

Can't have a contest without having Mario vs. Crono in some form... whatever, this is a tough one, I think. I pick SMRPG only because of CC being a love-it-or-hate-it game, except with a LOT of people siding with "hate-it". SMRPG getting doubled by CT is an interesting enough statistic... could CC do that against CT without counting SFF? I could see this being a debated match if it comes to pass.

If I'm not mistaken, this is my first upset by seeding pick. On match #26. Hopefully this doesn't say much about the predictability level, else I'll be ridiculed until the end of time for actually managing to outdo Ceej when it comes to predictability. Anyway, this is a wild guess. Counter-Strike is huge, there's no denying that. And Goldeneye did do rather horrible against OoT... but if you're PC and non-Blizzard, potential results will vary lightly. We know how Half-Life does (to an extent), but we don't know how CS does, nor how much does it leech off HL's popularity (or maybe the reverse?). I love this baby.

(5) Metroid Prime
(12) Ninja Gaiden (X-Box)

Ryu Hayabusa wouldn't even have the benefit of being the subject of every board debate. I mean, we're talking about the only Nintendo game that resisted being SFFed in the first two rounds. Although this is mostly due to Wind Waker, I like to think of Prime as a solid contestant.

Along with SF2, SotN is another game that did much, much worse than its protagonist for seemingly no reason whatsoever. War3 doesn't seem to have anywhere the fan drive D2 and especially Starcraft have, so it looks to be pretty much on its own. A battle of seemingly strong games that, when you look closer, don't look so strong. But I still go with the Blizzard game, because I'd slap myself silly if I didn't and it won (familiar scenario).

That round closer is poetry, right there. In one corner, one of the first great classics. In the other corner, what may be remembered as this generation's only classic when it's all said and done. Too bad good poetry =/= good match.

I picked SM64, but that's just a guess. I have NO IDEA what would come out on top. Both their stories this spring are virtually identical: they both beat down worthless Sega games upwards of 80-20 before getting SFFed 75-25 by the top Zelda. You may say I only picked SM64 because it got a bigger blowout in the first round, and lost by a similar margin (compared to SM) to OoT instead of LttP, and you'd be pretty much on the money. That, and I figure Nintendo fans would tend to favor their mascot slightly more. That would be all the charm of a Mario/Samus match in a summer contest, too.

(6) Diablo 2
(3) Legend of Zelda

One of my favorite matches in the entire bracket. You can see it as slightly-weaker-Starcraft vs. slightly-weaker-Wind Waker. And THAT's where D2 being on the top 10 list for PC can make a difference. If it's actually stronger than Starcraft, then LoZ is toast. However, I can't imagine D2 being such a beast. (Then again, we said that for Starcraft this year...) I'm torn, but my vote would definitely go to D2.

Sonic's best vs. Mario's best... in a battle of second bests Sonic got killed last spring.

As much as I'd love to say SMB1 has a shot, I don't think it does. VC came unbearably close to SSBM, and one could assume SSBM > SMB1. It all depends on how San Andreas does compared to Vice City... can GTA be a fad that's beginning to die out? That's SMB1's only hope, and that's if it doesn't struggle in the first round to begin with.

I'm curious to see how many brackets would have Starcraft losing the 4-pack I put it in. Especially those who would have the Sims beating FF1. Something tells me they wouldn't hesitate to pick it over Starcraft too. Nonetheless, like SMB3 last spring and Megaman in 2003, it looks like a "I can't see how it can not make the Sweet 16, but apparently half the brackets can" deal.

OHMIGOD. I said multiple times I'd slap myself if I went against Blizzard and it wound up winning anyway, but this is a testament to how a Halo 2 pick is tempting. No need to elaborate here, let the 1/16 match from hell speak for itself. Starcraft has its work cut out for it, and I'd expect Halo 2's hype train to make it stronger than its prequel in the end. There's always the specter of Starcraft variable strength, and I know we've pretty much written it off, but there are so many what ifs, bigger bracket support for example... I can't confidently decide on this one, but I'm picking Halo 2 just because I have to pick one.

I'll make myself very clear. If MGS3 wants to win this, it has to be the ABSOLUTE BEST GAME EVER. It has to sell like crazy to people who used to not care about Metal Gear. It needs a miracle. Prime's version of the match is a little shorter: Not. Gonna. Happen.

I've argued this over and over again, and I'll do it again if I need to. Screw 128 transitivity, it's as reliable as a Canadian Army vehicle. If you missed my argument, in a nutshell, it's that Wind Waker faced Starcraft on a Saturday, where B.net traffic is double what it is on other days. Twice as many people could be reached with the spamming, so... you do the math.
