It's also faster than Jill was at this point. It's fair to compare, especially if he holds up this trend. I don't question Frog's push at all. Master Chief either, to an extent. Of course Chief's biggest gains will be in the peak hours of the region where X-Box sells the most. We can't compare this comeback to other characters because we haven't seen an exclusive X-Box character to this point. If Master Chief is a strong character, his votes HAVE to come in surges from the American region, which they did. Since he's an X-Box exclusive, the stronger the character the stronger the surge in the U.S. He wouldn't get as strong a support from other regions, so of course the numbers during his peak will look swollen when compared. Noone would be complaining if the votes were spread out more evenly, but with this type of character, that's not gonna happen. It looks like the stronger the X-Box character, the bigger the voting swell.

Besides, there was also a time where inexplicably Hayabusa supporters sorta just stopped, and Jill started to retake the vote in the middle of his peak hours. Frog peaked too early. The big goal was to get him past Chief, and he's done that, with an hour to spare. This gives the Chiefsters time to rally their support behind the MASTAH, as well as cuts into the Frog rallying since he has the lead.

this might be the first match ever that comes down to a "head bob". we have never had a race that was dead even like this one for such a long period of time immediately preceding the conclusion. whichever character can put together a surge right at the wire might be the one that takes it.

Not in the Summer Contest, but I think there was one in the Spring Contest. IIRC MGS vs FFT was "head bobbing" until the last few moments where MGS pulled ahead for good.

Maybe, maybe not. Minor circumstances like that don't necessarily affect the outcome. Who's to say that more than 7 people who wouldn't have voted clicked it? Sorry to tell ya, but I see no chance of Ryu-over-Sonic working out for ya MM119. Good job on stayin' perfect 'til now; if there was a match to lose it on, this is definately the most respectable one you can lose it on.

I know I said it for weeks up until this match, and I remember Ulti preachin' it too, but Frog/Master Chief was gonna be a slobber-knocker...and it was. I stayed up 'til 1:30 (10:30 GameFAQs-time) and couldn't stay up any longer; what happened that last 1 1/2 hours?

what happened that last 1 1/2 hours?

Frog came all the way back after being down 640 votes, and then the two were dead ****ing even for the last hour of the poll. Every time one character took a lead of 15-20, the other one fought back. This was easily one of the best things I've ever seen, especially since I was on the side of the character that won the thing.

As for cheating accusations, I can guarantee that people vote-stuffed like crazy for Frog late in the match, but you'd be an idiot to think the same thing wasn't being done for Master Chief. Frankly, MC could have never come close to Frog on this site without the outside help he received.

My guts tell me Liquid would have beaten MC by a significant margin (at least 200 votes), but I can't think of a good reason. Perhaps there would be less cheating/vote spamming for MC, since MC supporters would mind him getting beaten by Liquid less than him getting beaten by Frog.

To answer your question, I think Liquid wins because he shares more of a fanbase with MC than Frog. Halo is almost as big as Madden with a lot of my friends. And I can tell you for a fact that most of them haven't even TOUCHED RPGs. But I can bet a number of them are familiar with Metal Gear Solid. Distribute that out to more voters, and I think Liquid can pull more than enough from Chief's surge to take the win.

One random question, do people who haven't played Metal Gear distinguish the difference between Liquid and Solid Snake to make a difference in their voting?

I don't think Liquid could have beaten MC. I mean, it's Frog we're talking about (O_o). Frog = Chrono Trigger + Square, whic is a HUGE equation on this site.

ANd for the second question, I have MGS for the PS1, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. In any case, I'm guessing that Liquid is blonde, and Solid isn't? If that isn't the case, then I guess I really don't know the difference. (I don't, aside for the physical attributes, IF I'm right about the hair colors).

I think most people who haven't played MGS won't differentiate. If they would vote for Solid in one match, they would probably vote for Liquid there too. If they vote against Liquid in a match, they would probably vote against Snake there too. Why put one above/below the other if you don't really know either?

Their difference in strength is probably caused by the people who have played MGS.

You know what's weird? At the very beginning of Frog/Liquid, I gave Liquid a sympathy vote...then saw the results stay close the rest of the day. When I woke up yesterday and saw Master Chief with about 41% of the votes, I knew he's make it closer, but probably not close enough...so he got a sympathy vote from me, too.

I nearly ****ed my bracket twice from sympathy voting instead of bracket voting, though I do like MC better than Frog anyways.

I think so too. Yoshi's not of the same franchise, but he's still a supporting character. Yes, Mario didn't look like he suffered from SFF, but he's THE legend. Not Yoshi.

It just seems lost most of the non-Clinkeroth Noble Nine has distanced themselves from the pack, except for Snake. Sure, he single handedly gang raped Tanner, but Tails could rape Tanner based on what we know. His showing today is somewhat disappointing, especially if you have Snake over Mega Man.

Unfortunately Knux has as much reason to increase as Snake. And then, Frog=MC and it's even speculated that MC is increasing. We won't know where Snake stands until he faces Mega Man, all we'll know is that he's set to lose.

All we need is one of those 170 or so brackets to not lose again. And I think that is extremely likely. Personally, barring a Samus or Mega Man run into the finals, I think the top ten will all have 190+

I dunno, I don't go around polling people on the matter. Chances are, if you grew up with the Playstation and never has anything other than a PS1 and a PS2 you didn't know Knux until SH. Those people probably still don't, but I'm sure a few new people learned of Knux.

Of course new games aren't all about new people, sometimes they are about renewed interest. There's always the chance someone stopped caring about a character due to a couple of weak games but could be enticed into playing a better one and liking the characters again.

Also, not that it really needs to be pointed out, but it's like the masses have a short memory span... Div 128 as a whole did better than every other division just for being recent. Recency does have an effect.

People who started with the Playstation or Xbox? I mean, not all of them, but there could be a minor section who had never heard of Knux before that. I mean, Rad Red wasn't the most hyped member of Team 'Hog outside the games.

We've still got Crono/Mario, Cloud/Seph, Sonic/Samus, and Link/FFVII, all of which have the potential to hurt higher ups. Not to mention any crazy upsets that could occur (I'm looking at you, Samus and Mega Man). We cannot possibly have more than 2 perfect brackets as it is, and that's rather unlikely. I highly doubt we'll see 190+ when all is said and done. High 180's will be where it's at.

Well, some people have still yet to be weeded out for crap picks. You know, something along the lines of missing Auron/Scorp and nothinbg else. Then there are a few matches that may be able to fool a few people...

Squall/Kirby - I can see a contest newb getting this far thne putting Kirby over Squall.

Sonic/Ryu - I doubt it was just Master Mage's upset special.

Dante/Tails - I have a feeling that a lot of people will miss this one. Sure, a lot of them will be the people that had Joe winning the match... but I do imagine that people who were crazy enough to take Tails the first time might have taken him the second.

Sora/Ryu - If Ryu wins this it'll of course be another lopsided pick, like all the rest I pointed out and every other close one. But it WILL take somebody down when Hayabusa wins

Crono/Mario - This will likely halve the perfects and near to its. Maybe Crono has a little more than half them backign him, and his victory won't be THAT devestating, but I expect many to fail.

Mega Man/Zero and Frog/Snake have potential. We know the first is insane, so it's not likely, but a lot of people probably genuinely believed Frog was capable of beating Snake. Of course, in the Deadly Venoms Scorpion killed Frog (okay, so he was actually Toad, not Frog) but Snake is going to do it, and somebody is gonna be sad.

And of course, without doubt, Sonic/Samus is going o put the hurt on.

There's plenty of room left for mistakes.

I have every intention of pulling 190 in this contest, which means that Chichiri and everyone with his identical bracket will be pulling 191. If I miss something, it will be Sora beating Ryu, Mario beating Crono, Sephiroth beating Cloud, or Sephiroth/Link winning it all. Sorry HM, but Mega Man does not have a chance in hell of winning this tournament. Neither does Samus. Whipping fodder is spectacular, and so is doubling Tidus, but neither character will ever defeat the likes of Link, Cloud or Sephiroth. And there is no doubt that of the matches I think I could potentially miss, there are people who have identical brackets to myself, except with the aforementioned misses being correct. So yeah, I will be shocked if all of the 170 or so 190+ potential brackets go down.

And while I doubt few would have Zero over Mega Man, there is no doubt that people out there will have Vercetti over him. They did it last year, so there is no reason to think everyone will have learned from their mistakes.

Everyone in the 3rd tier bar the 2 in the noble nine, Squall, Zero, Tidus and Shadow have been hacked down due to SFF.

Zero will be hacked down by SFF and Squall may also. Tidus did worse then expected which may also drag down Shadow.

Making room for the likes of Knuckles?

Dante is on par with Knuckles (no better). Auron was slightly better in 2003 but it remains to be seen if he will keep that up. Kirby will struggle to get 40% aganist Squall which won't be enough. Squall is stronger then Knux but SFF may see him off. And frog? ~_~ People hate frog and I doubt that Frog will get over 37% aganist Snake.

Ah yes, I forgot about Cloud vs. Squall SFF.

I would expect Dante > Knuckles though. Not by much, but yes. And Auron shouldn't get SFF'ed too much worse than last year.

As for Frog, at this point I think he'll do a little better against Snake than Knuckles is. Which means Liquid Snake and Master Chief would almost certainly rank a little ahead of Knuckles as well.

BTW, a thought on Auron vs. Sephiroth: I think the SFF might be worse than it was against Cloud because "Final Fantasy Badass" SFF might be more than "Final Fantasy Hero" SFF. But, that's just total speculation. Maybe the hero/villain thing will reduce the SFF from what it was last year.

I dont think Vivi will be able to crack the top 12...i have a feeling that he'll get just enough SFF against Sephy to keep his numbers down.

Although, as has been said, the general SFF chaos that has dominated this contest is going to keep the Noble Nine far and away the leaders in the X-stats. Depending on how strong Megaman is this year, Tidus may actually come in at number 10....*shudder*

The only this match is good for in my opinion, is that MM will rape snake (i am talking 60-40 maybe even higher). How many of you out there would put Knux over Tidus? *crickets chirp*, yah thats what I thought. MM got more on Tidus than snake can get on Knux, therefore, snake is doomed.
