I still think that the MC push is going to stall out long before he comes close to claiming the lead. The 6 o clock rush is the last reasonable attempt MC could make, and it doesnt seem like it will be enough. Frog should take the night vote no problem....

Should.

I thought that MC might have been able to catch up 1000 votes throughout the entire day vote. He's nearing 2000, and still is moving at impossibly high speeds.

2004-09-09 15:18:04 29193 28494 50.61% 49.39% 699
2004-09-09 15:22:10 29381 28730 50.56% 49.44% 651

48 votes in 4 minutes. 12 votes a minute. A rate of 720 votes an hour.

I want Ceejus to post, not to say that MC is cheating, but rather to give us something like the following...

"I've checked everything out, and all the votes seem legit. No mass voting, no irregular patterns, nothing outside of the ordinary.

As an interesting side note, 87 percent of all AOL users voted for Master Chief."

That would be infinitely more worth it than just some "yup, obvious cheating" type of deal.

I don't know.. At this rate, Master Chief might even win this one with a rather convincing one.. I wonder if Frog can hold up on the night vote..

Hah! Win convincingly? There's nothing either of them could really do to win convincingly unless this spurt by Master Chief stops around 1,000. However, there's not much question as to whether or not Frog will gain the night vote. Chrono Trigger, Crono, Magus, and Frog have all shown to do the best at night.

It looks like what I said might come true afterall..

But then again, Frog didn't really dominate Liquid Snake in the early hours of that poll either, so his night vote really wasn't expected to come in strong. But it still barely came in and gave him enough momentum to pull away at least.

But he PWNED Master Chief in the early hours of this poll.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

i am absolutely LOVING this comeback!! ^_^

before the bracket was even announced, i tried to warn everyone here that you were putting too much faith in Frog. i tried to convince everyone that they were totally overestimating Frog. and now Master Cheif, of all people, is putting that little amphibian in his place. HA!

then, this morning, i predicted that MC would make a small push when the Americans woke up and a huge push when the American kiddies got home from school. reading over how basically everyone else in the last topic had called the match with Frog as the official winner gave me a hearty laugh.

i do believe that besides MasterMage, i was the only person in this topic to pick Master Cheif over Frog. and, although i honestly don't think he can keep this up all night, i am really hoping MC can keep this up.

btw- down to 330 now.

I would still consider Viewtiful Joe the biggest flop because he was an overwhelming board favorite to beat Tails and he lost by quite a bit. If Frog loses, it'll still be close.

It was just yesterday that somebody (Wangalicious, I think) was arguin' that Frog would beat MC 62-38, and would take Frog over Aeris. He logic was that Crono was to Magus as Solid was to Liquid, and the fact that Frog beat Liquid showed that there was no hope for Master Chief.

I disproved that in two ways:

1) Comparing Crono-Magus-Frog to Cloud-Sephiroth-Aeris would have been more accurate (and currently is, still), and FF7 beating CT 42-58 only solidifies the gaps between them.

2) I waited 'til today. I don't deserve much credit for this though, 'cuz I did give up hope on him earlier...for shame.

Either way, I hope Frog goes to the next round and MC barely loses, so I can be as happy about today's result as I can be.

Just for fun, I've made a "parallel" bracket to the Spring contest, in which all of the games in the bracket are replaced with their sequels/prequels in the same era. In the event that there is no available sequel, I just replaced the game with a prominent title on the same system.

Seedings were not adjusted...in fact, it doesn't look half-bad anyway, aside from a few obvious discrepancies.

So, here it is:

8-bit Division:

1- Super Mario Bros.
16- Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake

8- Metroid 2: Return of Samus
9- Ms. Pac-Man

5- Alex Kidd in Miracle World
12- Super C

4- Final Fantasy IIIj
13- River Raid

6- Donkey Kong Jr.
11- Mega Man 2

3- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
14- Centipede

7- Space Invaders
10- Bionic Commando

2- Tetris 2 (yeah, there's actually a sequel...)
15- Galaxian

16-bit Division:

1- Radical Dreamers
16- Seiken Densetsu 3

8- Super Mario Kart
9- Street Fighter II Turbo

5- Sonic the Hedgehog
12- Shining Force II

4- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
13- TMNT2: The Arcade Game

6- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
11- Contra III: The Alien Wars

3- Donkey Kong Country
14- Phantasy Star II

7- Lufia II
10- Doom II

2- Final Fantasy IV
15- Mortal Kombat II

32-64-bit Division:

1- Final Fantasy VIII
16- Suikoden

8- Chrono Cross
9- Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow

5- Vagrant Story
12- Dance Dance Revolution 2nd Remix

4- Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel
13- Resident Evil 2

6- Banjo-Kazooie
11- The Legend of Dragoon

3- Star Fox 64
14- Panzer Dragoon Zwei

7- Paper Mario
10- Radiant Silvergun

2- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
15- Fallout

128-bit Division:

1- Halo 2
16- Diablo 2

8- Soul Calibur II
9- Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

5- The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
12- Phantasy Star Online

4- Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
13- Half-Life 2

6- Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
11- Golden Sun: The Lost Age

3- Final Fantasy X-2
14- Ikaruga

7- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
10- Ninja Gaiden

2- Super Mario Sunshine
15- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Tell me what y'all think.

Frog getting into the contest is the only sign that Chrono Trigger had any useful momentum, and I think he woulda made it anyways if Chrono Trigger would have lost in the Elite Eight.

I really doubt Crono's gonna be gettin' much momentum from CT, either, believers of such.

Chief recovered, but he's going much more slowly. Is it because the hypothetical cheaters stopped, much like the Starcraft spammers did against WW that allowed it to come back a bit?

Oh..my..[......]..god! Look what I found. :-(

http://halo.bungie.org/

Bungie, as I've been told by someone on AIM, is Halo's creator. He advertised the contest. Look at the fifth article, starting from the top and going down.

This can't be..all those voted can't be legit...>_>

Anyways, I don't know if all of MC's votes are coming from that site (although it wouldn't surprise me too much), just thought it would be helpful to post.

I did not think it was possible to vote multiple times on the same computer. I don't want to mention the method that's being discussed.

If so, then why is this being pointed out now? It's kind of like the proxy voting that led to a few controversies in the past.

Thursday is my ***** day. I have class from 2 until 8. Which sucks, but that's not the point. Anyway, I left for Calc II at 1:30, and Frog's lead had crossed 2000. Around 53%. I get back to my dorm at 8:15, click on results only, and say "Oh, he's still at 53%. Wait a sec...THAT'S MASTER CHIEF?" I looked at his vote pace in the updater topic. Nothing, no other character, could do what he did. Even Starcraft gained votes slower. This is ridiculous, and I am anxiously awaiting a Ceej topic.

My issues with Shdwdde's bracket

North Division

(4) Metroid Prime
(13) Max Payne

Seriously, a Max Payne game? I can't see it doing well.

(6) Super Metroid
(11) Gunstar Heroes

I think we've seen enough of GH. It deserved some recognition and got it, there's so many others that need in now.

(3) Halo
(14) Fire Emblem

Fire Emblem can take a break too.

(2) Super Mario Bros 3
(15) Gunstar Heroes

How many times does this game get in? :)

East Division

(8) Tetris
(9) The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

No need for MM if we're keeping 2k4 games as well.

(5) Metal Gear Solid
(12) Duck Hunt

DH had its chance, it should stay out unless be do divisions by era agian.

(4) Goldeneye
(13) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

We already saw this, wasted match

(6) Chrono Cross
(11) Phantasy Star IV

PS4 can take a rest

(3) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
(14) Suikoden II

Vice City will no doubt be replaced by San Andreas.

South Division

(4) Mega Man X
(13) Dance Dance Revolution

I love DDR. I play more DDR than anyone in this topic, no doubt. DDR just doesn't have a place here.

(6) Sonic the Hedgehog 2
(11) Paper Mario

Still skipping Sonic 3? the fanboys will lynch you

West Division

(5) Half-Life/Counter-Strike
(12) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

KotOR won't be returning.

My issues with HarricH's Bracket

8-Sonic 2 vs 9-Castlevania: SotN

Still odd seeign SOnic 2 in there when we know the fanboys want 3.

4-Devil May Cry vs 13-Pac-Man

Pac doesn't deserve to return.

3-Final Fantasy 10 vs 14-Fatal Fury

I love Fatal Fury, you guys know I do, I still say Samurai Shodown has a better chance to connect with the masses. In it's day (when Fighters were at their height) SamSho was only out done by SF2 and MK.

8-Twisted Metal 2 vs 9-Quake ("borrowed" this one from Chich, I think; it's good)

You're damn right it's good.

4-Metal Gear Solid vs 13-WWF No Mercy

A wresting game seems unlikely to me.

8-Diablo 2 vs 9-Starcraft

I can't see D2 over SC in the brackets.

5-GTA:VC vs 12-Super Mario Sunshine

And I still say San Andreas wil simply overtake VC due to being newer. I think no GTA will ever have as great of a soundtrack as VC, but I know it's not going to remain the favorite.

My issues with jonthomson's bracket

(3) Zelda: Wind Waker vs. (14) Fire Emblem

I know FE has a lot of fans, but it doesn't really belong... yet.

(7) Sonic 2 vs. (10) Metal Gear Solid 2

Okay, now SOnic 2 is my favorite in the series, so it's what I'd choose, but I jsut feel like Sonic 3 is more likely next time.

(1) Chrono Trigger vs. (16) Elite

That's make a new recond or two. I've only heard of Elite during nominations for my music tournament, IIRC.

(3) Final Fantasy X vs. (14) Star Wars: KOTOR

I've said what I had to say on KotOR

(1) Zelda OoT vs. (16) Chuckie Egg

Wait, my bad... now THIS is the ultimate record breaker. A murder in the making.

(5) GTA: Vice City vs. (12) Duck Hunt

...

(3) FF3/6 vs. (14) Championship Manager

Well, 3 super blowouts in one bracket, eh? Interesting. though yeah, DKC is much better in there.

HM... I lost a lot of respect for you today. You called my logic asinine yesterday for thinking Frog would get raped during the day vote. If a 3000 vote swing isn't raping, well then I may just have to step down from Board 8. Your disillusions of Mega Man winning it all are fine, but nobody of sound mind and body can say MC did anything but treat Frog like a ho for those 8 or so hours. I am not going to lie either; I think that there is some ethical issues with this match. But there is no way MC got 3000 cheat votes. A couple hundred, though, I do not believe is out of the question, Bungie-posting or not. If anything, I would argue the fact that it made an appearance outside GameFAQs on their board goes more to show there is some cheating more than it does that is where the mass voting comes from. But that's the accountant in me. Frog could still take this, but I am not holding my breath.

Well, at least Frog is stalling MC now. If he can go up 2200 votes during the early vote, he could hypothetically come back. MC's day vote ratio, however, is still completely insane. 100 vote gain in 7 minutes? I don't buy that.

I just find it very strange that when MC was busy making up over TWO THOUSAND VOTES, Heroic Mario kept on saying that it wouldn't be enough and MC had no chance. Then when Frog cut about 20 votes into MC's lead, he declared the start of a huge comeback... I like HM plenty and I still do (because not liking him over something like this is just stupid) but he really should just be a bit more realistic...

Er, I dont think anyone was expecting MC NOT to make a lot of progress during the day vote. But 3000 votes? There obviously was some outside force influencing this match, especially due to the sheer speed of the comeback. This is downright ridiculous. I think you can handily attribute a large number of votes to the link on bungie, so i don't think that its nessecarily cheating, but there obviously is quite a bit of craziness going on here.

Apparently you don't have any grasp of how that match went... there wasn't a day vote or a night vote, both charactre were at their strognest during the same time of day, both were at their weakest at the same time of day. Their variations were very minor compared to most characters.

Would you expect Jill to gain like mad during the (very) late night vote? Not usually, but since she won the early vote, it made since for her to win the night vote. Same with Frog. He'll take the night vote, it's a question of how much he takes the night vote by. Personally, I'm not holding my breath, but I'm generally a pessimistic guy. I gave up on Hayabusa, too.

NOTE:... Before i make any comment on your bracket, I do NOT mean any insult whatsoever..

North:
1-Final Fantasy 7 vs 16-Conker's Bad Fur Day
Conker's Bad Fur Day should not be in here..

8-Sonic 2 vs 9-Perfect Dark

5-Castlevania: SotN vs 12-Skies of Arcadia

4-Devil May Cry vs 13-Pac-Man

6-Super Metroid vs 11-Final Fantasy

3-Halo vs 14-Secret of Mana

7-Final Fantasy Tactics vs 10-Legend of Zelda

2-LoZ:WW vs 15-Resident Evil

East:
1-LoZ:OoT vs 16-Donkey Kong

8-Mortal Kombat 2 vs 9-Doom

5-Soul Calibur 2 vs 12-Sonic and Knuckles
I am not sure if Sonic and Knuckles should be in this match and even if it was.. Not a 12 seed.. This should be replaced by Megaman X(too many games so a 12 seed sounds about right)

4-Super Mario 64 vs 13-Earthworm Jim
EJ should be a 15-16 seed

6-Super Mario RPG vs 11-Earthbound

3-Final Fantasy 10 vs 14-Fatal Fury
Although Fatal Fury is an awesome game, I don't think it truly deserver a spot in Best. Game. Ever. Fatal Fury should be replace by Megaman 2(same reason as Megaman X)

7-Super Mario Kart vs 10-Mario Kart 64
These two games should not go head-to-head first round.. That's just blasphemy.. =)

2-Final Fantasy 3/6 vs 15-Shenmue
Shenmue is worthy, but there can be another replacement..

South:
1-Chrono Trigger vs 16-Duck Hunt

8-Twisted Metal 2 vs 9-Quake
If these two were to make it, they'll be in a much lower seed.

5-Metroid Prime vs 12-Pong

4-Metal Gear Solid vs 13-WWF No Mercy
No offense to wrestling or anything but WWF or any WWE game should make it into the contest..

6-Tetris vs 11-Metroid

3-Metal Gear Solid 2 vs 14-Star Wars:KotOR

7-Street Fighter 2 vs 10-Donkey Kong Country

2-SSBM vs 15-Tecmo Super Bowl
Techmo Super Bowl.. A valiant and worthy game..

West:
1-Super Mario Bros. 3 vs 16-Zero Wing
Zero Wing.. What the heck.. Might as well since CATS is quite popular here on gamefaqs

8-Kingdom Hearts vs 9-GTA:VC

5-Diablo 2 vs 12-Super Mario Sunshine
Not sure if Sunshine would make it..

4-Starcraft vs 13-Bionic Commando
A big ? on Bionic Commando.. I doubt it'll make it... Another title like Final Fantasy VIII deserves it more but also with a higher seed..

6-Goldeneye vs 11-Half-Life

3-Super Mario World vs 14-Xenogears

7-Mega Man 2 vs 10-Punch-out!!
Punch-Out..worthy but not a 10 seed.. Give it a 15 seed will do..

2-LoZ:LttP vs 15-Astroids
Astroids.. Classic but replaceable..

Overall.. Nice bracket Harrich.. Kudos to you.. =)

It's too early for the real comeback anyway. As much as I wish he could start immeadiately I know that's not how it works. If this IS legit MC will hold his ground until the last 45 minutes or so before Frog makes his real push back. And, MC may even look like he is starting to gain around 11. But make no mistake, MC cannot hold himself steady for the last 45 minutes of the match. If Frog starts the beats before then, then he's going to be looking mighty fine.

isn't it strange, though, how few accusations of cheating there will be if Frog makes a sudden huge push to comeback at the end of the match, even if it's comparable to MC's earlier rush of votes?

Now let's be fair, Hayabusa actually jumped to his highest lead at 11 and from 11:15 on Jill cut off all but 27 votes from that lead.

isn't it strange, though, how few accusations of cheating there will be if Frog makes a sudden huge push to comeback at the end of the match, even if it's comparable to MC's earlier rush of votes?

600 is comparable to 2,500?

Well, I was talking to a friend of mine who runs a lot of proxy servers on his computer, and I asked him to vote with one to see if it had been used. Sure enough, it had. He went through ~100 proxy servers on his list to see if they had voted, and he said every single one he tried had voted. So, apparantly, proxy servers have been used to vote for one character or another. He didn't vote stuff, and if one of them would have gone through, he would have stopped and left his vote count at one, but every proxy server he tried to vote with had already been used.

Take it how you will.

Crono801, you should have your friend send that list of proxies to ceej to have him check. Regarldess of how they went, if they favored one side or the other it's unfair. As has been said by many others, I'd rather have a legit loss than a questionable win should <insert name> win.

"was the board's favorite until it beat Wind Waker."

That match, at that time, was supicious. Though there was no evidence of cheating our suspicions did prove to be warrented as SC undoubtedly cheated agianst SSBM. When anyone does anything odd like that the board has doubts. Hell, even Mario fans were suspicious of the plumber after MvC2. We are, as a whole, accoustomed to predictable voting trends and when things differ significantly there is always somebody there to disect it. Yes, it tends to be the opposition, but that's because they blindly hope there is cheating as much as the suspect's fans hope there isn't.

"if MC does manage to hold out for the win, how many people do you think will drop off the Top 50?"

I expect the predictions to be as lopsided as with Zero... MC will have the people who are already screwed picking him in droves and the people at the top of the list won't have been "fooled" into taking the mainstream character.

But that's IF he wins, which he won't.

I can't blame you for that pick myself. I honestly thought that Terry was going to hit 25%, but Sonic showed more strength than expected. It's all too obvious AFTER his match that he isn't going down to Ryu... but before, it looked like a genuine upset pick. 3 hours and 410 votes to go. i wish i could stay up to watch the ending here, but i need sleep. *yawn* it's still anyone's match, but it's really looking like Frog will get the night vote this time. ah, well. even if Master Cheif fades out at the end, at least he made Frog work his green rear end off for a victory, which is miles better than almost everyone else in this topic thought before the contest started.

Wont happen.

Frog's lead has been pretty consistent with leads of the past. Master Chief broke the record for coming back from the biggest lead to take the lead.

There's nothign funny about that. Winning by a mere 20 votes would kick ass... for either side, I suppose... but taking the votes away from Frog after him looking liek the winner would hurt. Good thing that the voting trends followed along a very legitimate trail and that cheating wasn't all that likely. And of course, that Frog is gonna win.

If you people don't know it by now, then something is wrong. Cjay has addressed cheating before. There is no way to tell for certain who cheating will fall in favor of. Sure it was probably strong for MC to take the lead but how do we know it isn't strong for Frog to try to gain it back? If Cjay won't do anything about cheating in Crono vs. Mario or Samus vs. Sonic or even Ryu vs. Jill then he certainly will not do anything other than maybe create a topic for this match. The results will stand. You heard it here. Good luck to both, a strong comeback would be fun. Maybe some last minute flip flops.

"If Master Chief finds a way to lose this, I'm placing BOTH of these characters as being bigger contest jokes than Donkey Kong."

Why, for having a match with predictable patterns? It's a lot like Ryu H vs. Jill in terms of who was strong when, and Frog happens to be better at this time than Jill. His come back will be deserved, and neither one of them will be shown to be all that weak.
