And CT started off strong, and here, about 15 minutes in, is up by a hundred with roughly 52 percent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this looks like it could be good for CT. While i hesitate to give it a reasonable chance of winning until we see whether this is still just the board vote, it does seem that it will pull in as the second strongest game in this contest.

I really love this showing by Chrono Trigger. Final Fantasy VII is going to keep going up, especially during the day. But it appears very unlikely to pass 60%. So it looks as if SFF will not play a role here--the loyalty of Square fans is shown yet again! ;o)

I would guess that Final Fantasy VII will finish between 56%-58.5%.

Also, I think this is the first time any game had a lead on Final Fantasy VII outside the first couple dozen votes or so.

good contest everyone. it's kind of amusing how the final match is the final match that most of us predicted would happen. no surprises at all today.

so next up is the Summer Contest. CJayC also said that nominations will be up soon. so i guess that means we now get to discuss who we are nominating. any guesses on how the nomination form will work? it seems simple, but i would rather just nominate 10 characters, regardless of their series, company, genre, or whatever. i hope CJay doesn't try anything complicated.

oh and in accordance with our guru challenge, my sig commends Ulti's great luck and skill. =P

Overall, I kept the bracket pretty light on new characters, and outside of Frog, I doubt that any of them will make significant noise anyway.

North Division:

Taking a cue from Snow- err, Slowflake (I can never spell that name right...), I included a Kirby vs. Jill rematch, which I also think would be very interesting to watch.

Due to popular demand, I threw in Ghaleon, who happens to be the only contest greenhorn in the division.

And yes, I do realize that the seeding in Gordon vs. CATS is totally off, but who wouldn't want to see this match? ^_^

East Division:

I'll be damned if anybody in this topic besides me has ever heard of Adol Christin before. I threw 'im in as fodder for the big red guy.

In another match of totally misplaced seedings, I pitted the two Pong paddles against each other. Lame? Yes. Hard as hell to predict? Hell yes.

Ryu vs. Ryu would be rather amusing to see, and since everybody else has included it in their brackets, I might as well too.

Assuming that all goes well, Mario will face Sonic on his way to MvC III. If those two matches were included in the real bracket...I <3 CJayC.

South Division:

I brought Strider back into the bracket, just 'cause he's so damn cool. Zelda vs. Kefka would be interesting...as would Auron vs. Pac-Man.

West Division:

Yoshi vs. KOS-MOS...now that would be a cool match. I also put Aeris in the same half-division as Sephiroth, for obvious reasons. ^_^

I have no clue who'd win between Knuckles and Mewtwo, either.

that's not a bad bracket, Phediuk. good job. ^_^

here are the few flaws i see, though:

North Division:

some great matchups here. Dante vs. Lara is a good close one, with a slight edge to Dante. Alucard vs. Yuna is good, too. i also like the Kiirby vs. Jill rematch. and Zero vs. Megaman would be awesome, although i can't see Megaman losing that one.

my only complaint in this division is the (7) vs. (10) match - Gordon vs. CATS. CATS is a half - joke of a character that doesn't deserve more than a 15 seed. honestly i don't think he deserves to be in this contest at all, but the contest really wouldn't be the same without the CATS army. but no way should he ever get a 10 seed. and Gordon; pppffftt...... he lost to Max Payne and Tina's breasts, so he definitely does not deserve a 7 seed. give him a 11 seed at best.

East Division:

Tidus higher than Sonic? i don't think so. i know we all want to see a Sonic vs. Mario match, but not at the expense of giving Tidus a 3 seed. if anything, give Mario a 2 seed, Sonic a 3 seed, and Crono the 1 seed.

the Paddle vs. Paddle match is amusing, but pointless. it's kind of a waste of two spots. maybe one of the paddles vs. Tetris's L-Block, but that still kind of a waste.

Ryu vs. Ryu is hilarious. Frog is in the right place and could beat Master Chief. and Morrigan WOULD upset D.K.

South Division:

another very good division. Strider vs. Scorpion would be great to see. so would Magus vs. Snake.

but Kefka a 13 seed? boo. i doubt he could beat Zelda. a FF6 character deserves higher than that. give the spot to Shadow and swap his seeding with Gordon.

West Division:

pretty good division again. thank god that Pikachu is out. Mewtwo would do much better, but i don't think he could take Knuckles. i also like the Yoshi vs. KOS-MOS matchup. that's a tough one to call. and it's too bad you wouldn't get to see that Sephiroth vs. Aeris match because Bowser would take her down. =P

overall pretty entertaining though. ^_^

I'm not keeping a good track of these stats topics, so this may have already been done before, but I computed a number of statistics regarding the predictability of all three contests, that I can post if anybody is interested. The Spring Contest is quite interesting in that it is overall much more predictable than both Summer Contests, but also has the Division 128 which by itself breaks all records of unpredictability (due to Starcraft and SSBM). I know that's nothing new, but I like to have things confirmed by hard numbers.

It's good to be finally back.

Phediuk, it's phenomenal how many characters you and I both put at the same spot. Sephy, Aeris, and also Bowser, Samus, and plenty more.

So Kefka couldn't beat Zelda... give me a "duh" people. Zelda is 5-seed material. Kefka would get a double-digit in a terrible division.

Oh man, did I call that couple of matches right in the Oracle Challenge. Going to give me back some credit hopefully... I hope to at least justify my runner-up spot for the Smartest User Award I got last year - the winner left the board.

I tried doing a first draft of my pseudo-SpC2K5 bracket yesterday, and it's so damn difficult. All that potential and I just can't tap into it. I'll try again today, and see if I can come up with something.

Tomorrow morning: COMPLETE EXTRAPOLATED RANKINGS. Hurray.

Oh, a few other things.

A bracket based on the BOP would've had 173 points. Matches missed: Halo vs. Starcraft, Starcraft vs. KH, Starcraft vs. WW, FF10 vs. SSBM and of course Starcraft/SSBM. All in division 128... the three other divisions were so predictable the BOP was perfect in all of them. And I still managed to get four of these first round matches wrong. Hoo boy.

Characters that are stronger than their (strongest) games: Link, Sonic, Ryu, Snake, Alucard.

Characters that are weaker than their (strongest) games: Cloud, Mario, Crono, Kefka, Gordon, Tidus, Vercetti.

Unknown: Samus, Pac-Man, Master Chief, Sora.

Unknown, due to SFF in various matches, as well as the Starcraft factor. Think we should extend this to the entire Blizzard universe, if Diablo 2 and/or Warcraft 3 show up next year.

Legacy of Kain doesn't get a ton of respect, so Raziel makes good fodder here. I think someone a lot more unknown to the general populace should be fodder for the strongest #1 seed in the contest.

As Tomb Raider's popularity tumbles, so does Lara's seeding. Lara's nothing more than a #14-#16 seed now, IMO.

5- Alucard
12- Yuna

Good seed for Alucard. Yuna should be a bit higher though just because she has TJF and is a FF main character :P.

Good seed for Squall. Ghaleon.. I wonder if he's got enough of a following to earn a single digit seed. I think so.

Characters that are stronger than their (strongest) games: Link, Sonic, Ryu, Snake, Alucard.

In the case of Ryu, that just looks VERY wrong. Simply because fighting games don't generally have main characters. What I mean is that it's very difficult for someone to say that they hate Sonic, Mario, or Link, yet they like their games because you're, for the most part, forced to play with that character. Yet it is very possibly for someone to hate Ryu & Ken, but love Street Fighter. Just throwing in two cents.
