I have put the Extrapolated Standings for the Spring Contest on my site.

http://www.sc2k4.com/excel/spc2k4_extrapolated.htm

I'll copy my SFF-adjusted standings into this thread:

http://www.sc2k4.com/excel/spc2k4_extrapolated_sff.htm

To get these adjustments, I increased the following games by 60%:
Metroid
Donkey Kong
Super Metroid
Mario 64

And I also increased The Legend of Zelda by 7.5%. Adjustments to these games trickled down to other games.

I might have forgotten some games to adjust, let me know if I did. Other possibilities for SFF adjustments were Sonic 2 (possible 16-bit company mascot platformer SFF? would be odd in a Nintendo vs. Sega match, but maybe), Shining Force (Genesis SFF vs. Sonic 2) and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

If anyone has any comments on the amounts I should adjust for SFF by let me know. The 60% is just a simple guesstimate that is, needless to say, unlikely to be very accurate. I picked it because DK jumped by about 87%, and that might be a rough proxy for Nintendo SFF, though it is probably on the high end of reasonable estimates.

The fact that so many had it winning shows it's power. There are 63 other possible winners, and this pulled in a little under 40%. It was predestined to win, and only some of us had hope another game could knock it off.

I've also put up a graph of the Spring score distributions:

http://www.sc2k4.com/score_distributions.php

The distribution is bimodal, probably indicating a divergence between Final Fantasy VII winning and non-Final Fantasy VII winning brackets.

And, as always, you can find sortable tables with things like the average Oracle prediction here:

Come to think of it, I`d like to thank everyone for being good sports about the whole thing. But it`ll all be over for you two weeks after the initial chance, just in time to post your Summer Contest stats in your sigs. We doing this again for the next contest?

my mid-pack finish was quite deceptive. i spent most of the contest trying to avoid last place. only by playing it safe and choosing ff7 to win was i able to gain 48 late points, and "pass tiring horses".

live and learn, and now we move on to the better of the gf contests - the character contest. god i hope they don't screw it up...

So much for the "the favorite never won" idea. Why do I get the feeling that if Cloud repeats this summer, we'll never have any of these contests again?

So, MGS2 is stronger than MGS. Who woulda thought? And to think, Super Luigi laughed at me for thinking SSBM had a shot at MGS. Then again, I never took the guy seriously. And then again... again, I've been laughed at for thinking SMW would get 40% on CT...

A thought. If FF7 was almost as much of a favorite as Link was last year, can we expect over half of the brackets to pick Cloud this summer?

An interesting tidbit: the ten most costly eliminations in terms of BOP point value.

1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Division finals, to Final Fantasy 7) - 1584
2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (Semifinals, to Chrono Trigger) - 656
3. Final Fantasy 10 (Round 3, to Super Smash Bros. Melee) - 564
4. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Round 3, to Starcraft) - 392
5. Final Fantasy 6 (Round 3, to Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past) - 320
6. Chrono Trigger (Finals, to Final Fantasy 7) - 288
7. Metroid Prime (Round 2, to Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker) - 262
8. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Division finals, to Chrono Trigger) - 216
9. Kingdom Hearts (Round 2, to Starcraft) - 198
10. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (Round 2, to Super Smash Bros. Melee) - 140

The top first round match ranks 11th at 127 and, you guessed it, it was Halo's.

Finally, the average of all the brackets that entered the BOP was 135 points.

I don't think so Tidus is ranked 12th from last year while Auron is ranked 18th even if we take SFF into account Tidus will still be most likely to win beause he'll win with SFF

From: Haste2 | Posted: 6/7/2004 11:45:12 AM | Message Detail
Hm, this may sound strange, but I think Tidus did better than Auron because he is the #1 representative for FFX, while Auron is just a likeable character. In otherwords, when they vote for Auron, they vote for Auron, and when they vote for Tidus, they vote for FFX.

So...if Auron vs. Tidus occured, Auron may be able to defeat Tidus, as Auron is from the same game as FFX, so people will only vote for the better character...

Finally, here are the top 16 games in terms of total votes:

1. Final Fantasy VII (371,448)
2. Chrono Trigger (306,889)
3. Super Mario Bros. 3 (254,499)
4. The Legend of Zelda (243,018)
5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (243,108)
6. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (231,863)
7. Super Smash Bros. Melee (203,059)
8. Starcraft (187,357)
9. Final Fantasy (172,646)
10. Final Fantasy VI (162,696)
11. Super Mario World (162,462)
12. Final Fantasy X (141,312)
13. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (134,762)
14. Tetris (133,648)
15. Goldeneye (125,062)
16. Metal Gear Solid (115,959)

No types there. Honest. Also, no Round 2 losers managed to make the list. (FFT is ranked #17, and Sonic 2 is #18) Look, Final Fantasy gets overrated yet AGAIN.

I stand second only to the one and only Lord of Gurus, UltimaterializerX who bested me by no less than 11 points!

Congratulations UltimaterializerX! Thought of what your 5/10 free games are going to be?

Disgaea (promised Aeon that I`d get it for him if I won anything)
Super Mario All Stars (so I can have a copy of the original Mario games)
Super Metroid (if it even exists on the site)
Final Fantasy 6 (if it even exists on the site)

Haven`t decided on a 5th title yet. It was going to be the SC Battle Chest, but that plan went south. It`s okay though, I`ll think of something. Earthbound, maybe? Or perhaps even La Pucielle Tactics, which has been highly recommended by multiple people.

These topics usually get flooded to hell once it gets close to 500. Apparently we truly are in the offseason over here.

This is about as dominant a performance as you can get. This match set records all over the place in terms of pure beatings, and Adventure, while very influential in the industry, got its ass whipped in this match. It`s simply too old and far obscure to do much of anything in a poll on our site. Why did it make it, you ask? The nomination system. Few titles from the various Atari systems are noteworthy, but Adventure would be one of them. There is also the tidbit that CJayC openly stated that he tweaked the bracket a tiny bit to get more interesting matches. So maybe he knew how influential Adventure was and put it in to see how it would do? Who knows.

A couple of interesting things to note about this match before I move on. Adventure managed to make the Top 100 list on IGN`s list. And while their list truly has some issues (no Mario 3 or Final Fantasy 7), Adventure even being mentioned was something. Also, Aventure managed to make it all the way up to #13 on our FAQ list on the site during this match. Another thing of note is that this match featured the highest prediction percentage of any in the contest.

As for The Legend of Zelda, this was no surprise. It`s Zelda. But when your opponent sets a record for futility set back in 2002 by Mrs. Pac Man during a time when vote totals were lower than they are now, you are showing some true power. And it wasn`t like it was even close, either. Adventure beat Mrs. Pac Man`s record by at least 500 votes. Zelda fever started hitting the board after this matchup, and many people, including yours truly, were wondering whether or not Zelda was going to completely own this contest. I originally had Zelda 1 over Mario 3 in the Elite 8, but this match made me think twice about it. I`m sure it made others do a double take as well. 95% of the vote against anything is no joke, and the female population of gamefaqs outnumbers the people who voted for Adventure in this match. Scary.
