Metal Gear Solid didn't deserve this beating.

Of course not... it didn't deserve to face FF VII either. Still, this isn't a total massacre, so MGS can still hold its disks up high and with semi-pride. Besides, it's FF VII. Nothing short of OoT can be reasonably considered to take it down.

Time for another... TNotez Take:

I keep posting these things earlier and earlier; but then again the matches are not close, so waiting until it ends serves no purpose. Currently around 71%, FFVII outperformed the GunPoint, but was still right around the area I assumed it would gather against MGS. OoT will need a good 75+% against GoldenEye for me to consider it a threat to Cloud and Co. Anything under 70%, and it is goodbye Zelda, hello top 50 again for Da Note. Anything over 80% and I think I will cry, in addition to conceding Zelda that spot in the final four. So what do I think will happen...

GunPoint Prediction: Ocarina of Time with 74%

Yeah, that feels right. I think MGS would defeat GoldenEye will at least 55%, so for OoT to gain 2-3% more than FFVII is logical. This, of course, setting up the ultimate battle that will just reek havoc on all our brackets. Again, I would like to congratulate those of you either in or on the outskirts of the "money," and I would like to pat myself on the back for creeping back into the top 50 (though I do not get name recognition, I will survive). If I would have followed the BOP like I promised myself I would, I would be tied for 4th with the other Starcraft-underestimaters, but instead I was allured by the wiles of Vice City, like that ugly ex-girlfriend you keep going back to. Damn you Vice City, and damn you ugly ex-girlfriends!

Goldeneye would have to get much less than 25% in order for me to think it was weaker than Tetris. Ocarina of Time is a significantly stronger opponent that The Legend of Zelda.

Match #51 Review:

CT had a stronger showing than most anticipated, which means that...

Match #52 Review:

...LttP has shown a chink in its armor. There's one of two conclusions that we can draw from this match:

1. LttP is simply weaker than expected, and its high percentage against Super Metroid was simply the result of a match riddled with SFF.

2. FFVI is much closer to Chrono Trigger than most of us had previously thought; Mortal Kombat and Doom are no jokes as opponents.

Nobody here seems to be acknowledging #2, but I can't blame 'em: coupled with CT's manhandling of SMW, LttP's performance just doesn't look all that great. I do, however, think that #2 is still a distinct possibility, which is why I can't completely discount LttP until it's actually lost.

Match #54 Preview:

The last yawner of the contest is right here, folks...from here on, it's nine days of sheer chaos. Alright!

Okay, so we all believe WW will win, but am I the only one who thinks it can deliver an ass-kicking so large the board will look like a Mario/Crono aftermath, like 60-40?

Someone said today's match could be FF7/FFT without SFF... that's exactly what's happening. Turns out I wasn't underestimating FFT, but overestimating MGS. It's going to be good, how MGS and MGS2 stack up against each other in the end. Unless we have a OoT/WW or FF7/FF10 stinker.

In other news, I'll put up a topic soon with my pseudo-SC2K4 bracket for all to see, especially those who didn't see it last fall. And even if you DID see it, I suggest you take a look anyway... I've moved a few characters around, especially the lower seeds, and replaced three characters.

I've been thinking about my pseudo-SpC2K5 for a while now... I hope I can make some interesting setups. Of course, a lot of it will depend on how Starcraft will do on Saturday.

i'm still not quite sure what to expect from Wind Waker tomorrow. LTTP got 74% against a Metroid game while Wind Waker only scored 55% against a Metroid game. now, Metroid Prime might be the more popular game in the series, but i doubt that it's a ful 20% of the vote stronger thain Super Metroid. that means that most likely, Wind Waker really is a weaker Zelda game than the others.

therefore, i'm under the impression that Wind Waker will score closer to 54 or 55% against Starcraft. that, and i have a hard time believing that Starcraft, Halo, Soul Calibur, AND Kingdom Hearts are ALL that weak. but who knows; maybe they all are that weak. this division has been so screwy that Saturday might roll around and surprise us with a 60/40 match in favor of Wind Waker or possibly in favor Starcraft.

I want the old Stats/Discussion back. :[ Oh, and it doesn't matter whether FF7 gets 70%, or 71%, or 72%...you still won't be able to predict exactly how it will do next round, anyway.

I too am of the opinion that these couple matches don't tell us much. The only thing we learned today is that the Final Fantasy name isn't enough to get you near Final Fantasy VII's level, which we knew already.

Tomorrow's match won't tell us much either, unless Ocarina of Time somehow gets less than 67%, or more than say 77%. Anything oustide of that and it tells us more about Goldeneye than about Ocarina of Time.

Just a thought.

You know how Prime and Vice City almost tied for 2002 GOTY? Integrating that in the rankings would give SSBM a sure loss against Wind Waker, UNLESS Prime lost ground to Vice since then, which I don't see happening.

Of course, we all know the real value of old polls... but hey, it's better than nothing, I'm just throwing ideas around.

Meh, you're right. I say it's a little strange how GTA3 was voted GotY here in 2001, over FFX, MGS2, SSBM, and Halo, yet GTA:VC doesn't even quite beat Metroid Prime. Maybe this could be a sign of weakness for FFX, as well as SSBM, though. Could you provide the URL to that poll for both '01 and '02 GotY polls, perhaps, Slowflake?

You mean that assuming MP and VC as equals, and WW as superior to the two, that WW would beat SSBM? Makes enough sense.
