Glad to hear that from someone who isn't insanely biased... wait, yes you are. Again, let's just wait and see, okay?

Technically, if I said no or yes you could say I was biased because if I said I don`t think it would that would be favoring Nintendo`s SSBM, heh.

But really, I couldn`t imagine FFX or WW only beating VC by 4,800... then again this division is so screwed up it wouldn`t be that shocking.

Yes, I must point this out, telling the sales figures wasn't as easy as you though, HM. SSBM has actually sold more in the US than FFX. NA is the region that counts here, I must say, but should you be counting the whole world the gap isn't large between FFX and SSBM

GC Nintendo Super Smash Bros. Melee 2.24
GC Nintendo Nintendo All Stars: Super Smash Bros. DX 1.20

PS2 Squaresoft Final Fantasy X 2.08
PS2 Square Final Fantasy X (+ FFX: International) 2.74

The two regions that count (as I like to put it) have SSBM at 3.44 and FFX at 4.84. That give the edge back to FFX orldwide until we remember the regions that don't count (much). Europe and it's cronies. I'll give you three guesses which genre is the least popular in those areas and anything that isn't "RPG" doesn't count. FF probably loses a lot of ground in Europe despite GC losing the console wars in that region.

I think SSBM was nearing 4 million last I heard but I don`t have a source for that one.

well, the sales could just reflect how good melee is, and nice to see double dash up there too, that game is so much fun.

watch that happens now...

European sales data is so spotty it's a joke. Most places that have sales data don't even bother with European sales data. And I guess, why should they, right?

The only sales data that is going to really matter in this contest is North American. For the purposes of this contest, SSBM > FFX by sales, not that it matters much.

Funny to think, Japan and NA alone account for close to 5 million copies of FFX, and we know that while it's broken 5 mil it ceratinly hasn't topped 6, right? Those Europeans are shameful creatures. I can see SSBM easily topping 1 mil in Europe though. If nothing else it's got to be close.

Seeing Japan at half of the US shouldn't be a shock, because of course they have roughly half the population. We two nations fit into a similar curve that's only broken by certain games and genres. Kirby does better there, Metroid better here... FFX is the best selling PS2 game there, VC is here (and VC's sales here are about double the sales of FFX there). But Europe... well, them and Austrailia combined, should whoop up on us. But it is not so. And if WW passed 1 mil in Eu, then SSBM CERTAINLY passed 1 mil in Eu.

Besides, the thought of either FFX or Wind Waker representing the modern era of gaming is naueating.

this raises an interesting question that i've been asking myself for a while now:
what game really represents the modern era of gaming?

ffx?
wind waker?
smash bros. melee?
...certainly not starcraft, since it's six years old...

personally, i think it's one of two titles that we've already voted out:
grand theft auto: vice city...
...or halo: combat evolved.

Well, declaring one game as the representative of an era made more sense back then due to weak or non-existent competition. Not only that, but certain genres didn't exist (of if they did, they weren't quite popular enough) during the older eras.

I said it in aother topic, the mid-afternoon vote kicked CT straight in the nuts. Before then, it looked like it could go back in a 50-50 state at the least... but I guess not.

And who says I'm being blinded? I didn't mind LttP, but I didn't love it to death like I did CT. I call 'em as I see 'em. And right now, CT's performance gives me the impression of a no-no.

And I just remembered something... Sonic 2's going to go down even more badly after today, as well as Shining Force, which can end dead last in the division if LttP beats CT.

T-Notez Take (a new, daily outlook on the contest):

Chrono is settling in around 58%-59%. Right around where I figured it would finish going into the match (though why I did not predict it for the Oracle... that kind of jumped the shark when I forgot to predict FFTA). I do not use any fancy numbers (ironic,of course, because I am a math nut), but my internal calculator says for a "classic" to take place in the 32-bit finals, LttP will need to garner around 53-55%. Any lower and I would give Chrono Trigger an edge. Any higher and I would look at LttP to finish off my bracket. 53-55%, in my mind, would result in a toss-up.

I do not want to say "well I think CT would get x% against FFVI," because of same company (SFF?) biasing. Not saying Link and Chrono fans are mutually exclusive, but normally Nintendo and Square is a logical place to draw the line for allegiances. SMW's performance today neither impressed me nor did it lay an egg, however I was disappointed in the day vote for SMW. I expected a good 3-4% swing, whereas it barely cut 2%.

GunPoint Prediction: LttP 53%

As for my outlook on tomorrow, I personally feel LttP is the favorite, though the spread topic almost made me chuckle (62.5% is even money... ha!). I think a better spread would be somewhere between 5-10%, with 55% LttP being the ceiling of what I expect. In reality, 52-53% seems more realistic, as the FF name alone will garner enough votes to, at worst, keep it that close.

FFVI is my 2nd favorite FF of them all (soon to be 3rd once I begin FFVII in 10 days... and yes, there is a countdown to when I start). We'll leave my favorite out of this, because chances are I will lose all credibility on this site. FFX-2 is dead last. Seriously, I played the first four chapters, and half the fifth; have been sitting with over 90% complete for months now... and absolutely no desire to finish the game. Just terrible, but I digress...

Anyone who has visited the board has listened to me trumpet FFVI. I have consistently been saying that there would be no CT/Mario 3, as FFVI would beat CT to prevent the epic showdown of SMB3/CT, in spite of practically everyone telling me I was crazy. I said there would be no All-Zelda FF as FFVI would beat LttP in it's match, in spite of practically everyone saying that Zelda would WTFPWN it's way to a fate with OoT. Right now, FFVI holds a 54-46 lead. This is premature of me, but right now, I'm just warming up my voice.

Na na na naa...
