Me. I'm not a moron (ignore the fact that I'm last in the Guru
standings, I'm still above the average GameFAQs bracket), and I
literally have Starcraft beating WW in my bracket. Why?
Sorry if I made that “anyone who’s not a moron” thing sound offensive. I meant it as a compliment to the users who grace this topic with their presence, not a slam. I’m just getting annoyed with all the stupidity going on throughout any other topic on this board on the Starcraft issue. Some people honestly think Starcraft has an instant and obvious win and it makes my brain cry.
Now, I can say that I still think Starcraft can win because Wind Waker is not a strong game. I have no respect for Metroid Prime as a contender, and SoA didn't get a great reception outside the Dreamcast. Starcraft is a game that is still played today, a game that would get massive hype if a sequel was ever announced, a game that has a spinoff that's expected to do very well on XBox, a game that (as Ulti said) SAVED A BLOODY COUNTRY. And you only sail in it 50% of the time, which is 30% less than WW.
The problem is that the country it saved contributes little to the traffic of this site. GameFAQs is a site whose traffic is primarily from console gamers. The fact that Starcraft got this far is wonderful, but just because it beat Square’s bastard child doesn’t mean it’ll be able to beat Nintendo’s, especially since Nintendo’s bastard has the advantage of being in one of its main series.
Wow, bastard isn't a banned word? News to me.
Is seeding really that important? Sephiroth is already one of the strongest contenders. I just don't see how Sephy being a 2,3, 4, or even 5 seed as a big deal unless Cjay made Cloud or Link a 12-16th seed.
It’s just annoying, really. And, much as I dislike Crono, he got robbed last year with his seeding.

A format change that ludicrous would decrease popularity of the
contest. Not saying we`re in for the apocalypse or anything, but
gamefaqs peaks in the summer for obvious reasons. A ****ty contest
negates most of the increase.

So wait; when this crappy, crappy set-up goes through, and we have the
Square division, the Nintendo division, the "Other big guys" division,
and the "everyone else" division, and the "everyone else" division has
Tommy Vercetti as the 1-seed, Master Chief as the 2, and CATS as the
3... are we suppose to go on strike? Or will the board just
automatically shut itself down for us?

No, no, if any obscure character with no chance to survive is going to

Here is what I am thinking... if Fearless Leader is going to subject us
to this travesty, we should run with it. Everyone nominating ridiculous
"characters" like Left Paddle (Pong), L-Block (Tetris), and Near Racket
(Tennis). Seriously, nothing screams "stop paying to advertise on my
site" like an invisible racket garnering a 5-seed...

We don't know who would get more noms for the next Summer Contest. Either could end up being the 1 seed.

I hope solar is around, we're going to need a new topic within the next hour or two.
Perhaps some people could put a link to the petition in their sigs when they post in other topics? "Sign this petition against Company-based divisions for the Summer Contest: ..."? I already have my sig taken up ;), but while the petition is going pretty good--over 70 signatures in half a day, that's very strong for a petition--we'd get a lot more people to sign if they were aware of it.
And Ulti, I think you were too antagonistic. All your points were of course valid and accurate, but on the off chance that CJayC does happen to read that thread and give a **** about it, talking to him like that can't help, I'm thinking.

The post was a joke. Though I`m not exactly happy with the whole theory
about the recursive rankings making perfect sense and how it`s natural
for people to argue against them. That whole series of posts really
made you come off as 'the rankings are perfect, whoever doesn`t agree
with them is an idiot'. Though I`m probably taking things too
personally, as always.
And I`m sorry if I`m willing to tell Jeff what I truly think. I`m willing to bet others feel the same way, but don`t have the guts to actually say anything to him. I hope he does read that thread, to be honest. The idea is stupid, plain and simple, and him going through with it would be further proof that he simply does not care about the people who make his site what it is.
And am I the only one that was just a little upset by the fact that all of the beta testing was originally meant to be a secret? If you`re planning on chaning the entire site`s layout, at least give us an advance warning. Like I said, we may have never learned of the events had it not been for LUE. We could have woken up one day to a layout change.
God bless LUE.

Does not compute...
Anyway, cn, I hadn't thought of the 1 nom per company factor until just now. I merely assumed it would be a normal nomination because, you know, that's a sensable thing to do. But then when I thought about it I realized we'd be in deep **** if there is one nom per company. Yes, it increases the chance of seeing an SNK character or two, but it's not a good thing overall... And I'd be willing to bet it would even further solidify MC's place as a 1 seed because I can at least think of some other characters (okay, one other character) from Rockstar.

Well, I cannot imagine he would limit to division-specific nominations.
There are many reasons I feel this way, but most important is the fact
that not everyone just knows what characters will fall into which
divisions. Everyone knew what system their favorite game is on, but I
do not know for the life of me who makes True Crime, but that will not
stop me from nominating Nick Kang. Why? Because the Kangmaster always
wins! That, and who doesn't love a lead enigma?

Ulti:
Though I`m not exactly happy with the whole theory about the recursive rankings making perfect sense and how it`s natural for people to argue against them. That whole series of posts really made you come off as 'the rankings are perfect, whoever doesn`t agree with them is an idiot'. Though I`m probably taking things too personally, as always
I'm not sure whether you're being serious here. If you took it personally I most sincerely apologize.
My only point was that they do make perfect sense, and have a series of known weaknesses, and have certainly shown their utility in the past (the most obvious example being Sephiroth vs. Mario). I cannot understand the reasoning behind belittling them in any way.
Of course, their utility will be majorly hampered by a Company divisional format filled with the things that make the model invalid ;) I suppose the unpredictability of %es, and the difficulty of predicting "Will SFF affect this match, or not, and by how much?" is one of the only benefits of the format.
And am I the only one that was just a little upset by the fact that all of the beta testing was originally meant to be a secret?
That was very messed up. He should've kept the users in the loop. It was very wrong not to.
This site has been going straight down the toilet ever since the layout change.
Chichiri:
Anyway, cn, I hadn't thought of the 1 nom per company factor until just now.
I don't think it will be 1 nomination per company, but rather perhaps a number of slots per company. 1 nomination per division wouldn't make sense. We didn't have 1 nomination per era, but rather 1 per system. So we'd probably have a certain number of noms per company. Which will still lead to quirks.

Match #49 Review:
No real surprises here.
Match #51 Preview:
Mario vs. Crono III? This match may very well be. I can't really give a solid advantage to either game, so...go SMW!

I`d like to say I`m definitely looking forward to the match tomorrow. I`m hoping SMW can pull through and upset CT.
Yeah, in light of all the bad things that have happened maybe this match will have some positive effect . =)

Come to think of it, Ceej would probably *have* to have more than one nomination per company, especially in the case of Nintendo, where all the nominations would go to Mario, Link, and maybe Samus if there was only one nomination allowed. Out of a hundred Nintendo nominations, I'd be surprised if more than one was *not* for one of those three.

Okay, sweetness. My only real issue with them is that they aren`t perfect when you start talking about characters who are very close together.

One nomination per company would be completely pointless.

Not 1 nom per division, 1 per company. The other two divisions have a
hell of a lot morethan one company each. Though it simply can't work
that way no matter how you look at it. Samus is a Nintendo character,
right? But wouldn't it be fair to say you could nominate her for Retro
since retro did a Metroid game? DK for Rare? Link for Panasonic, for
god's sake!? It's just night right, and he can't allow X noms per
division or anything of the sort because, well, it'll make things just
plain wrong.
