So
this is for the Summer Contest? Cause if it's for the Spring Contest
you can add this voting chart (updated on the 15 min periods..) for the
first match
Yeah, it's for the Spring Contest as well. I
figured there was no need to regist spc2k4.com as well, especially
since I'll be using this page for the Summer Contest as well. And
thanks a lot for that link! I'll definitely upload that info at some
point. Great work by Chucat in that topic. --- Remember to nominate Frog from Chrono Trigger for Summer Contest 2K4! SC2K4.com |

Here's a note for anyone who's interested: all the pics for Round 1 are up. In fact, SMB3 vs. Metroid is also up!

like there will be generation-respective character portraits for the
2nd round. Wonder what CJayC will put for games without single defining
characters. --- Remember to nominate Frog from Chrono Trigger for Summer Contest 2K4! SC2K4.com |

the way, it looks like Contra vs. Phantasy Star will lose an hour due
to Daylight Savings Time. Shouldn't affect the vote total too much
though, since the hour lost is between 5:00am and 6:00am Eastern
(2am-3am Pacific) when just about everyone is asleep. --- Remember to nominate Frog from Chrono Trigger for Summer Contest 2K4! SC2K4.com |

Yet
another post by guess-who. Contra leads Phantasy Star, with 60.18% of
the vote and 761 votes in. Looks like this one is over. This will
probably be the first match where a significant number of brackets lose
their perfection.
Given that we'll see character images in the
2nd round, we might actually see an actual Crono vs. Mario if SMRPG can
win. Not really Crono vs. Mario, but it would be Crono's pic vs.
Mario's pic, probably. That would be fascinating, even though the
result would never be in question.
Ceej'll probably use Title
screens for pics in some round. Now I know that pic factor is basically
non-existent, but if it did exist, Chrono Trigger would PWN all in that
round...mwahaha! <evil grin> That title screen is just awesome.
*tick, tock...tick, tock...*
The Legend of Zelda probably has
the most recognizable title screen I can think of. SMB3 also has a very
famous one with the curtains. Can anyone else think of some really
famous title screens? --- Remember to nominate Frog from Chrono Trigger for Summer Contest 2K4! SC2K4.com |

Well, I hope people now realize that Phantasy Star did NOT have an advantage on name recognition...
Also, it'll be interesting to see how many votes the poll will get now that it's back up in its regular position.
--- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

Yes,
indeed it does rock ;) And I was just going to post about the contest
poll being in the top position again but you took the words right out
of my mouth.
Phantasy Star has clearly crept up on relative
popularity to Contra over the years though, probably due to its
successful Genesis sequels, and maybe a little bit due to Phantasy Star
Online. Back in the day this is a whooping of epic proportions.
I
wonder how long it'll take Ceej to put up the Final Fantasy vs. Contra
pic up, given he put up the SMB3 vs. Metroid pic up before Metroid's
match was even over. He might put this pic up before Final Fantasy vs.
Pitfall even starts :P --- Remember to nominate Frog from Chrono Trigger for Summer Contest 2K4! SC2K4.com |

OK, short and sweet.
Match 2 review:
Metroid
won easily, as expected. Slightly larger margin than I thought, but
Pac-Man is noted for doing NOTHING in contests. Guess the games a bit
repetitive.
Match 4 preview:
Final Fantasy. Yeah, check
the top board lists, top FAQ lists on numerous systems, and you'll see
this game. It may be other games in the same series, but that series is
****ing HUGE here! Im sure the original is well regarded enough to take
it out.
Pitfall was a pretty big Atari and arcade game. 15 years or so ago. It'll get some anti-FF votes, but it has NO HOPE WHATSOEVER!
Won't
bother going into more detail, it's just not worth the effort. If
anybody here thinks Pitfall has a decent shot at winning the match,

against Slow's Board Odds. I just want to touch up a few more things,
then I'll put it online... But got to study some homework first, so
it'll be a few hours here.
I can tell you who's still perfect, though. Falling out first was...
Metroid over Pac-Man: Yesmar went with Pac.
Contra
over Phantasy Star: ChichiriMuyo, torey luvullo, red sox 777, Team
Rocket Elite, swirldude, nh82, charmander, DomaDragoon, and FastFalcon
went with Phantasy Star.
So ten down, with me and 19 others still standing perfect for the moment.

Match IV
(4)Final Fantasy vs. (13)Pitfall
Steve's Prediction: FF with over 85% Steve's Bracket: FF Newbie's Pick: FF Upset Chances: Nil
Comments:
This match is a laugher. We got the RPG that started it all in the eyes
of many taking on the golden moment of the Atari 2600.
FF is a
juggernaut in this tourney, this website, in countless stores across
America and Japan and pretty much everyplace but Nauru. And this is its
weakest entry in the tourney, though not the weakest in the series.
(See FF5 for that hehe)
Pitfall...well it was fun back in the
day...prolly only a few hundred peeps with brackets have honestly
played it. A few hundred more know of it.
Probable Results: This
is a no brainer. FF shall destroy Pitfall. I say by 85% but higher is
very probable and would not surprise me. I still say there is one more
match in this bracket, Zelda vs Adventure, that will set the record for
blowouts.

SMB3/Metal Gear was around 34K Metroid/PacMan was around 41K And as of right now this match is at 48K

don't believe that PS & Contra are more popular combined than the
first four games of the contest, so perhaps Sunday might be the day

Yesmar's Contest Comments: Day 3: 4/4/04
· Well,
I'm not really that surprised by today's results. I guess it just goes
to show that the franchise voters are really a non-factor unless a
match is close, when anything can be a factor IMO.
· Or maybe PSO just wasn't as large a factor as we all thought it would be.
·
It will be interesting to find out the Prediction Percentages for these
last two matches, and see if the casual voter thought the same way that
the board members did.
· On the pictures I don't really
have much to say other than Pong has the worst picture, and Super Mario
World's is pretty bad also, with the exception of LUEshi. Am I the only
one who kind of likes Donkey Kong's pic? It's better than Duck Hunt's
is, IMO.
· I really hope that the second round match pics
don't alter the results that much, but I'm afraid that they might,
since people might try more to vote for the character instead of the
game.
· Even though I have a loss behind me from
yesterday, today's win by Contra makes me even with some other
Discussion Topic members. I hope my luck can stay. --- Heh Heh... The wind... It is blowing...--Ganondorf

Perhaps...we'll
get to find out about the Monday turnout tomorrow. Barring a huge
slowdown tonight, this match should hit 80K at the very least &
tomorrow Final Fantasy is up. I think the matches with FF & LoZ
should help flesh out these observations, because if we're only
totaling 75K for those two games, then I don't know what else it could
be. But if we get similar results like today, then maybe it was
GameRiot afterall. |

*** COMPARISONS GAME - Match #4 - (4) FINAL FANTASY vs. (13) PITFALL ***
Sales
Pitfall...
never heard of it before SC2K2, and its protagonist was the running
joke of it, at least until a certain 93-7 match came along. Then again,
I'd never played CT or any FF before SC2K2, and I knew the latter only
because I saw the name somewhere once or twice. Serious.
But
enough of this, this isn't about me, this is about the match. Pray
tell, did Pitfall sell enough to save a company in imminent and
inevitable bankruptcy?
- Advantage FF1.
Franchises
Seriously.
This is silly even comparing the two. FF is either the most popular
series around here or a very close second to Zelda. Pitfall is
rachitic. NEXT!
- Advantage FF1.
GameFAQs Status
Number of FAQs: FF1 Number of reviews: FF1 Average review score: Pitfall Board activity: FF1
Yes
folks, Pitfall rips FF1 a new one in the review score department. Of
course, Pitfall doesn't have a seventh installment to judge it by...
- Advantage FF1
Board Odds Project
PICKS (out of 102) Final Fantasy - 99 Pitfall - 3
POINT VALUE 13. Final Fantasy - 331 49. Pitfall - 5
Yes,
someone picked Pitfall to go to round 3. And two others to at least
beat FF1. But let it be known that an incredible majority (read: over
90%) have it getting to SMB3, and losing there.
- Advantage FF1.
Summer Contests / Polls of the Day
If
we were to believe a PotD that occured no later than last week, FF1
would be the least popular FF, yes, even less than FF2 and FF3 (though
I'll bet you most of these were for FF4 and FF6).
FF1 gets
lambasted in every single one of these polls. Plain and simple.
Meanwhile, Pitfall Harry picked up 18% against Sonic in SC2K2, for what
it's worth. If we were to use the same logic I did for Metroid/Pac-Man,
Pitfall would absolutely crush FF1. We know it won't happen... but then
again, I just can't give this category to FF1, no matter how much it
suffered from SFF in that poll. Therefore, I call it...
- TIE.
Intangibles
Franchise
vote doesn't seem to affect the less-played games of a given series
quite as much as I expected, but Pitfall is a weakling nonetheless and
FF1 should get by easily enough. Plus, FF gets something PS doesn't,
the "OMG ITS FF *orgasms* *click* *click*" factor. You could as well
call it TJF, for all I care. FF is just that popular. Unless the idea
of the FF1-6 fanbase not being the same as FF7-10... but then again,
come on, it's not LttP, it's not SMB3, it's freakin' Pitfall.
- Advantage FF1.
Conclusion:
FF should win this match. It won't be a blowout in the proportions of
what we've seen last Friday *note to self: revise Prophet and Oracle
picks*, but it should get past Pitfall easily enough. But if it fails
to double Pitfall, then Contra vs. FF1 will suddenly become a whole lot
more interesting. --- SpC2K4 Status --- Points: 002/002 --- Matches: 02/02 --- Rank: ?????/????? --- Today's pick: Phantasy Star |
