She's definitely not ugly. She's quite decent looking. But to say "so damn pretty :)" to a girl you barely know is crossing the line into creepy territory. Unless you're gay. Only girls and gay men can comment on the attractiveness of another barely known girl without coming off creepy.

Actually i think she is pretty, but if she "rejects" me.. then ill agree with you.

She likes Assasins Creed very much, and is getting an Xbox 360 in a week or two. shes a gamer chick. and was pretty friendly towards me.

She's had some problems with people adding her on Facebook and causing problems for her and so some of her friends (like me) are somewhat protective of her. Though I do tend to be sarcastic and sometimes have a somewhat abrasive personality, I USUALLY am a nice guy. I tend to sometimes not realize how mean I sound, this is one of those times. And you didn't offend me... Truth be told, I can actually somewhat relate. I used to be REALLY socially awkward, and I didn't really realize I was. It made it pretty hard for me to interact with people for a long time.

Okay, the two most major things wrong with your reply, just so you understand why people are headdesking so hard:

1. You probably shouldn't discuss your Aspergers with some girl you just met. It's probably more information than she needs or wants right now.
2. "If you're not serious, then **** you" would be seen as offensive by many people even if they were being serious. Most people don't like being spoken to that way.

Yeah, I can understand that with Aspergers there's some subtle things you won't catch; for example, whether the "pretty" comment was appropriate in-context. However, there's some basic rules of social interaction you can follow:

1. Don't swear. (This goes for your initial message too; "so pretty" would have come across slightly less weird than "so damn pretty").
2. Don't put "or else" statements. "I hope we can stay in touch" is fine, whereas "I hope we can stay in touch, or else I will be ANGRY" is not. You are not this woman's parent; you are not this woman's boss; don't make threats.

Here's some tips that may or may not be helpful.

-> I think you need to calm down and think about what you say to people rather than just going on the offensive instantly and blame anything weird that comes out on aspergers.

-> Calling a girl you barely know "pretty" is coming on too strong. There are loads of subtle ways to suggest this without coming out and saying it, plus saying it in a public place like that for all to see just puts her in an awkward situation.

-> You put her in an awkward position and she handled it quite well and was nice enough to respond politely to you, I'd have probably just ignored you in that situation rather than address the awkwardness. It shows she was nice enough and reaching out with the friendship branch to you. You responded to this by telling her "**** You". This is what we call "blowing it".

-> From the sounds of things you really don't want someone who sounds like a very nice person as a friend at all, and you're only interested in banging her. If thats the case, grow up.

I follow LL's belief on this one. Many people claim to have Aspergers when they truly don't, as an easy excuse for their own social ineptitude -- or parents looking for an excuse instead of admitting their own failures as a parent. The people who truly suffer here are the ones who truly do have it, and it's basically ADD all over again. It's a condition that does exist and is a problem, but it's over-diagnosed to a sickening degree.

It can appear that way but it's really not accurate. Aspergers encompasses more than just being an ass or being socially awkward. Odd behaviors and mannerisms, difficulty understanding personal space boundaries, an inability to see any more than one viewpoint at any time, and the lack of understanding that others have separate understandings of a situation are all hallmarks of Aspergers, and specialists can usually tell the difference.

I realize it's a popular thing to say "this mental illness is overdiagnosed" or "all that psychology stuff is a load of crock, they just have bad parents" but most of the time these are real issues diagnosed correctly.

You can't "come on too strong" if you aren't saying it to her. Saying it about a picture isn't anything. To be coming on too strong you have to say it so that she hears it, otherwise the phrase is inapplicable.

I don't think the cynicism is directed at DIAGNOSED Asperger's. It's directed at the people who just read a list of symptoms that amount to being socially inept and kind of a jerk and go "oh man i totes have that".

I made zero such comments until people started trolling me.

The first post from me that could be remotely interpreted that way was #181, where I began making fun of VL. By that point, he had already started embarrassing himself by making his standard baseless accusations. Then you chime in by calling me "pompus", and I told you to spell correctly if you sought to attack my posts. It's not so much to ask, and you got your panties in a twist for no real reason. People who think they're on my level when they can't spell at a fourth grade level tend to do that, but again: your problem, not mine. If you get offended by this, maybe you should consider going back to school and learning to spell correctly?

So, to recap: You cannot spell correctly and have a very rudimentary level of reading comprehension. No post of mine before 181 can be considered topic derailment in any way, and from then on I simply defended myself. Nothing wrong with that.

Totally been there.

(When I came out of the closet to my mother, she tried to convince me that I was misreading the signs and had Asperger's syndrome instead. After a good three psychologists said no, I definitely don't have Aspergers, she switched to "where did we go wrong as parents!!?!?" X_X).
