Good news, everyone! The Guru site for the '10 season is now up and running!

First off, a big round of applause for fett, jose, and Spike, our three tireless workers who entered an astounding 220+ brackets for this season- easily a new Guru record!

As for the features on the site, you should be used to most of them by now if you participated in the Guru last season. There have been a few tweaks however- one is that due to popular demand I've decided to list the "Guru Cookie" on the rankings this season. (The Cookie is the most "cookie cutter" bracket possible, aka it always selects our most popular choice for each match.) HOWEVER, the Cookie will not cost anyone a ranking position; for instance it's tied for first right now, but listed in "0th" place so that Leon gets to keep the #1 next to his name.

Some returning features:

* click any user's name anywhere on the site to see their bracket

* you can re-sort the main page by score (default), TB, risks, their pick in the current match, Dead/Alive status, or even alphabetically by username- just click the headers

* currently "Today's Pick" is pointing to Match 5, Luigi vs Meta Knight. if you'd rather see everyone's pick for the next match, change the dropdown to "6" and hit the button- now you see all the picks for Shadow vs Ammy!

* any pick anywhere on the site that goes against the Guru Cookie is rewarded with red text

But surely the most popular feature of all are those Guru Stats! You can check them at any time by clicking "Matchup Stats" on top, which takes you to

Here we have the listing of every match along with how many brackets picked each possible winner.

NEW FEATURE! Handy color coded text on the left to remind you whether that poll will be a Day Match, Night Match, or 24 hour poll.

OLD FEATURE! Click the "Who Picked Whom" button to see the complete listing of what users selected each winner in their brackets.

Not many with Zack > Mega Man

You have too many upsets later that give people the chance to catch up. Ezio > Zelda if you get there alive with a decent score, probably a hefty chunk of everyone left.

Depends on how many are alive, but at that point there will be a a max of like 8 people left running combinations of Charizard/Kratos/Sora, Snake/Sephiroth and Link/Cloud.

Maybe a couple of Snake > Cloud crazies as well.

That probably won't be enough to kill your bracket but I've only glanced over a couple brackets. If WCC beats The Boss and Charizard beats L-Block, you'll only tie me at best even if your Ryu > Dante and Ryu > Leon come through. If Ness beats Big Daddy in Round 2 as well, I eliminate you (or someone else if I'm dead at that point).

Can someone check and see if I'm eliminated once Kratos loses to The Zard? I also have Drake winning his round 2 match, if it matters.

That probably won't be enough to kill your bracket but I've only glanced over a couple brackets. If WCC beats The Boss and Charizard beats L-Block, you'll only tie me at best even if your Ryu > Dante and Ryu > Leon come through. If Ness beats Big Daddy in Round 2 as well, I eliminate you (or someone else if I'm dead at that point).

I actually think Soap will win this fourpack. Someone is bound to make a helmet picture.

Yeah, doesn't matter much. Your closest competition is basically the cookieish brackets, but they've gotta pick up 16 points to knock you out before Sora loses so that'll take a while, if it happens at all.

No need to worry, the above Scott Pilgrim/Alblito brackets are the closest to yours. And you still have WCC and Auron upsets in the 3rd round to separate yourself from them, so you can miss a lot and stay alive.

Aww yeah, nice to see I'm doing fairly well in this contest for a change. I guess 3.5 eliminations are a sign of that. Still, I kind of feel the need to personally apologize to those I eliminated-I feel for you. IMO it is the worst part of these contests-early eliminations and lack of ability to change/adapt to past mistakes. At least spread betting and the oracle kind of alleviate that problem!

Oh, and IMO Dr_Football is still an UNSTOPPABLE BRACKET-MAKING MONSTER! This is true for the same reason that Leon must still be stopped...

There's a very good chance that you'll knock out Leon. Terra>Revan, Vivi>Altair, Master Chief>RyuH, Sub-Zero>Roxas. Any one of those would knock him out, best he can do is tie you. :P You have to get really lucky to survive for long with no 3rd round upsets.

On that note, here is how the brackets are doing based on what their highest round upset is:

My bracket would be pretty close to eliminating yours if that happened. Assuming Charizard wins in Round 2 and Round 3 and everything else goes your way, you beat my bracket by 2 points. If Jecht beats Ratchet, you can at best tie by bracket. If anything else goes wrong, you get eliminated.

Your bracket is doing ok still, though this obviously doesn't help. We do need you to clarify who you have winning Sora/Bowser and then that division though. Right now your guru bracket has Sora > Bowser and then Bowser > Kratos.

Is it allowed to have differences between guru bracket and official bracket? Looks like I have a difference but am pretty sure it was a missclick in my bracket(the new clicking system really is allows to make lots of mistakes :() and my Guru bracket was the pick I intended.

I do remember Smurf last year doing a good run without a real bracket in the Guru so I guess no biggie?

Your bracket is doing ok still, though this obviously doesn't help. We do need you to clarify who you have winning Sora/Bowser and then that division though. Right now your guru bracket has Sora > Bowser and then Bowser > Kratos.

hmm odd, well it's definitely Bowser > Sora. I was right with Aries>Auron...in Asia :(

Is it allowed to have differences between guru bracket and official bracket? Looks like I have a difference but am pretty sure it was a missclick in my bracket(the new clicking system really is allows to make lots of mistakes :() and my Guru bracket was the pick I intended.

I do remember Smurf last year doing a good run without a real bracket in the Guru so I guess no biggie?

On Ngamer to make that decision.

If MMX beats Red, Master Chief beats Ryu Hayabusa or Ness beats Big Daddy, you'll be eliminated. I believe if Sub-Zero and Jecht both win in Round 2, you'll be eliminated as well. It's definitely not looking too great.

Pretty much what Lieutenant Kettch said. I don't see anything immediately threatening to your bracket. You have a decently high score and your Kirby, Auron and Charizard pick comibination isn't that common. A lot of your nearest competition also went for Snake over Sephiroth which makes it hard for them to eliminate you before that match actually resolves.

why do you think he's eliminating people?

The recipe for eliminating people is to turn in a mostly cookie bracket, then get a lot of early upsets correct. This way you have more points than other people and many of the same later round picks, covering either result.

Then almost everything went right for me in the early matches. If it hadn't, I would have probably been eliminated early.

And for the record, I didn't know I was turning in such a cookie when I entered my bracket. I put in what upsets I was confident of-Sub-Zero, Sackboy, Terra, and went from there. Don't worry, it will probably cost me with Charizard and possibly Ryu.

Yep. If Vivi wins Ike/Zidane we be a deciding match for us. Strangely enough, I haven't seen a single one of those yet, though there may have been one earlier in the contest before I started checking for elims.

Yeah, don't count on Vivi > Altair guys. This is one elimination chance that is not going to come through for me.

And statistically speaking, I should be safe from elimination through Ryu/Dante at least, even though I'll be for all purposes eliminated then because Ryu will win again after that.

Zidane/Ike is a pretty important match for you. Ike winning means you can survive Charizard beating Kratos/L-Block, Zidane wins and you need Charizard to lose somewhere.

Gordon/Tifa at the earliest probably. Could survive passed that if you get lucky on a couple matches though. Articuno is the one to worry about.

My bracket, virtually. If Ryu and Jecht loses, I get eliminated. Since Jecht losing is about as probable as somebody finding a way to drive to Hawaii, my bracket relies on Ryu pulling through.

The only times I go against the Cookie from now on are:

Roxas > Sub-Zero
Geno > Big Daddy
Auron > Squall
Kirby > Sonic
Snake > Sephiroth

Agent M can knock you out if Charizard and Ryu win. Luis can knock you out if Yoshi and Ness both win. Otherwise I'm pretty sure you at least stay alive til round 3, though someone with Ganon/Bowser could knock you out in Ganon's match I think.

I was pretty confident in Charizard but whenever a character winning would cause ToadYoshi to eliminate someone, that character wins. The only exception is Geno and that's only because Ness winning still let ToadYoshi eliminate someone.

Snake/Seph is worth 16 points. That's more than the Charizard/Kratos and Ryu/Dante upsets combined (even when assuming Charizard/Ryu both win their Round 3 match as well).

Dang, I am shocked with how I have sucked so badly this round that I am not gone. I know though my days are numbered and I won't make it all the way through Round 2.

You can survive this round if you get Roxas or Falcon right, but you'll be out when Luigi beats the Cube.

The brackets with L-Block taking the division are doing really poorly. So you can still beat them out, along with everyone else, if L-Block beats Charizard and Bowser. Ngirl is in a similar situation if Kratos wins. Either of you would be gone if Sora, Bowser or Charizard/Kratos (the one you don't have) take the division so it would just be L-Block keeping you around.

I have no idea how eliminations work but Kratos is my favorite character in the contest.

I've been hoping GoW3 hype will carry him through (plus he beat Cloud in the gamespot contest). Kratos ftw... but if it doesn't happen, I couldn't have picked a better match to be eliminated by.

Actually, Dante's the favorite by a 65/35 split.

An interesting trend with this contest...when we have matches anywhere between a 60/40 split and a 70/30 split, the underdog usually wins.
