It took a ton of work, but the 2007 Guru website is now up and running (pretty much) just the way I've always wanted! You can give the main page a look-see at

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

The scores are accurate as of yesterday's Marcus > Kefka result. Some people have already thrown in the towel on Jill today, but I'm going to wait at least until the sun rises before I go ahead and make that official (which would also officially kill our last two Perfects).

Risks are now accurate as in, that's how many times you have a different character in that position as compared to this year's Guru Cookie. I'd still like to change that so picking Marcus > Kefka instead of the cookie's Kefka > Marcus only counts as one risk instead of two, but eh, it's serving the purpose for now.

Status, as in whether your bracket is Alive or Dead, as in "is it still possible for me to win the Guru Contest if everything goes perfectly for me?" will once again be handled this year by our friend LtK... I think. LtK, could you confirm that for us? It's certainly going to be much harder to accurately calculate than in past years, so hopefully Mr. Kettch is up to the challenge. Because if not, I'm sure as heck not going to touch it!

Overall Winner is a pretty dumb thing to have listed on the front page this year, since all but two of us are backing Link. So instead I'm going to update that column to return "Tomorrow's Pick", so for instance it would come back as "Cloud > Jill" for me and "Cloud > Ocelot" for Smurf, etc. That should be much more interesting to see.

Something new that we didn't have last season... personal bracket pages! Just click your name anywhere on the site and you'll be taken to a listing of your bracket, complete with your score, DoA status, total risks, and a dangerous red marking on all your picks that are risky. For example, here's the bracket for this year's riskiest picker, Tweeeked, who guessed against the Cookie a full 63 times.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/bracket.php?id=149

Otherwise you can still choose to take a look at all the brackets at once, like you could last year. And they're once again sortable by Score, Status, TB, Name, and other stuff. That's once again found at

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/allbrackets.php

But my favorite thing about the new site is how we now have a complete listing of the Guru prediction stats, ie how many of us picked which characters in all 63 matches. With so many debatable matches, I think this is something people are really going to want to take a look at as the Contest progresses. You can scan the results yourself at

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php

But that's not all! Say you glance through and notice that two crazy people have Toad advancing out of round one ahead of either Ryu or Bowser (or Mewtwo). Who would do such a thing, you wonder. Well now you can find out in a moment, by clicking Who Picked Who in the results table! That will take you to one of the 63 Complete Matchup Predictions pages, in this case

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=8

Why, it was RayDyn and Dante, the knuckleheads! And as with the main page, to see more of their wacky picks you could click their names and be taken to their full brackets.

(BTW, if you're interested in previous results, the rankings and brackets from CB5 and the BSE are both linked from the top of every page.)

So, that completes our tour of the new Guru site. Next step- let's correct those mistakes in your bracket! Post all the differences you see between your officially entered bracket and what you find on the Guru site here, and I will get things fixed for you. HOWEVER, before updating, I reserve the right to insult anyone who posted their bracket incorrectly in the first place. Don't think I can't find out! The bracket topic has been archived out in my Contest folder

http://thengamer.com/gamefaqs/

And I'm going to be checking that against all posted changes, so don't try any funny business.

Once that's out of the way, just be sure to check back at this topic for nightly Guru updates! I'll also be posting periodically to talk about a new feature I add to the site, or to do some kind of analysis on the previous day's results or how an upcoming match could effect the rankings outlook, or to discuss how we predicted a certain match quite differently from the rest of the board.

Here's to a great 2007 Contest season- good luck, Gurus!

Speaking of making a mistake today, here's our picks for today!

Match #6
Cloud - 181 (99.45%)
Ocelot - 1 (0.55%)
---
Jill Valentine - 148 (81.32%)
Ocelot - 32 (17.58%)
Cloud - 1 (0.55%)
Zolom - 1 (0.55%)

Mega Mana's the guy who picked Ocelot for the upset... somehow. Not the upset over Jill, I mean the BIG upset! But it's almost equally odd how few of us gave Ocelot a shot at second place in today's poll... The BOP, by comparison, favored Jill but with only 71% of their brackets.

Sure would be nice of her to mount a comeback and keep us from looking stupid!

"are we going to know when people are eliminated this contest?"

Of course. That's not really a hard thing to do. Really, all you have to say is: "this person has X points less than this other person and for the rest for the contest they made the same choices". Do that, and then you know the first person is out.

Ashe: You had Scorpion > Midna? Forgive my disbelief, but that would have made you perfect heading into today, and I do not see you listed as one of the 11 site-wide current brackets. If you were just quoting ps2 to make fun of him and didn't really mean for me to update your own bracket, cut it out. I have almost 200 brackets to manage here and no time to waste on attempting to detect sarcasm in posts requesting updates. This was your warning; pull a stunt like that again and you're out of the contest.

Dp: Shush it up, you! I was trying to get some code tested without anyone noticing. Changes are uploaded now, and scores out to be reporting accurately once again.

Brought a tear to my eye to have to do it, but the Cloud > Ocelot result has been applied to the Guru site now. Can't believe Jill failed us so badly.

Looking ahead to the upcoming poll...

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=7

Match #7
Auron - 174 (95.60%)
Shadow - 7 (3.85%)
Pyramid Head - 1 (0.55%)
---
Shadow - 168 (92.31%)
Chris Redfield - 6 (3.30%)
Auron - 8 (4.40%)

Results seem fairly clear-cut, though a brave few still hold out hope for a Shadow upset.

Oh, is that what Ashe has? Alright then, updated, and that being the case I needn't have chewed him out for his Scorp winning update request. HOWEVER, I still should have chewed him out for not checking his bracket on the site and admitting I gave him too much credit for the Fenix result.

Remember guys, check your bracket now. It's going to look a lot more fishy when you start requesting changes be made when we're already well into the second round.

Is there an easy way to tell who's going to be eliminated and who isn't?

It shouldn't be too hard once someone gets closer to being eliminated. Our brackets are just too diverse now.

Take for instance these two brackets, which are probably the two closest ones I can find:

16 Mithrandir
--Ryu1/Bowser2/Wario1/Fox2/PacMan2/Bomberman2/Zelda1/Vincent2/Yuna1/
Chief2/Liquid2/LittleMac2/Laharl2/Vyse2/Wesker2
--2Midna2/2Peach2/2Yuna1/2Chief2
--3Luigi2

*************

18 KrahenProphet
--Falcon2/Bomberman2/Bidoof2/Mudkip2/Yuna1/Chief2/Liquid2/Amaterasu2/
Donkey1/Kratos2
--2Midna2/2Peach2/2Yuna1/2Chief2/2Aeris2
--3Luigi2

NOTE: Chart is set up showing everyone's upsets. First number is round, then the character name, then the place they've been chosen to take.

At the earliest though, the elimination would happen after Laharl/L-Block, if every single match were to go against Mithrandir. That's at the start of division 7. It's going to take a really bad performance to get eliminated in the first round this year.

For crap's sake Shadow, where's your Day Vote? Not that it matters for this, but bah, he's killing my Oracle.

Alright, this one is ugly enough that I've gone ahead and made the result official. And now you're able to tell that I've done so at a glance- check out the new Guru main page!

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

Finished up that update I was talking about, where instead of seeing that everyone picked Link (duh), the table is now returning the much more interesting result of what everyone guessed for tomorrow. All picks that go against the '07 Cookie get turned red. Also, I've added the "latest result" to the top of the page, so you'll be accurate when comparing your Guru points against what you see in your own GameFAQs bracket. Plus, if you click that result, it takes you to see everyone's yesterday picks.

Neato!

I'm an update machine! Just a small one but I might as well mention it. If you prefer seeing the in-depth stats for a match with everyone's pick listed, like at

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=8

I've added some "next" and "previous" links to the top of all those pages, so now you can just click through and check the picks for the next few days in a row, instead of having to go back to the main Stats page, scroll down to the next one in line, and clicking in.

Keep in mind you can also just change the number on the back of that URL to whatever match you'd like, as well.

Oh yeah, and haven't updated this latest set of corrections against the brackets yet. I'll do that in a bit, and I'll also add TJ to the rankings.

That's cause it's the smart, SFF-factoring pick! Speaking of which, here are what we thought about probably the most interesting matchup of Round One!

http://thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=8

Match #8
Bowser - 129 (70.88%)
Ryu - 53 (29.12%)
---
Ryu - 119 (65.38%)
Bowser - 53 (29.12%)
Mewtwo - 8 (4.40%)
Toad - 2 (1.10%)

Why did I pick Ryu?

- Bowser's a guy any Nintendo fan would support in most 1v1s, but it seems very few feel strongly about him, as witnessed by his poor showing in Favorite Mario characters polls time and again. I don't think this format is ideal for him.
- Melee factor? Mario Kart factor? Old-school NES platformer? Newer school handheld factor? Either Toad or Mewtwo or both have a presence in all these areas as well... just don't see how Koopa can distance himself enough for their shared fanbases to not bring him down.
- Fighter fans may not have a huge say on this site like they did back pre-2002, but there's still alot of them and they're a pretty loyal bunch, as was shown last Fall in Subby and just the other day with Scorpion. Ryu's facing tougher competition, but I think his increased icon status over those MK guys should be enough to pull him through.

The reason I picked Ryu is I have this feeling Mewtwo will leech away votes from Bowser that will cause Bowser to fall short of Ryu. If it was a straight-up Ryu/Bowser match then I would pick Bowser in a heart-beat, but SFF has been so screwy this contest that I'm thinking my prediction might hold.

Alright, all changes made and Tjian added to the rankings, taking us up to 183 Gurus. Everything SHOULD be running and accurate now, but as always, let me know if that isn't the case.

Oh, and Ryu is looking fantastic right now, having jumped out to a lead of over 1200 already, but I'm still going to play it safe and see how badly the epicly awful Street Fighter morning and afternoon votes hurt him before putting this in the bank. I've got a feeling that vote WILL hurt him as bad as ever, and yet Bowser still won't have a shot at a big comeback because Toad and Mewtwo will be sucking up too many of his would-be votes. But like I said, let's wait and see.

eh, this contest won't be decided in round 1, that's for sure. it's those later matches - division 5, division 6, division 5/6 final - that will actually matter. a couple of points is next to nothing in this contest.

According to Kettch it would be really hard for someone to be eliminated by the end of the first round, and definitely not until Division 7 or 8.

The point totals for the first round though are different from any other contest. In the past it was 1 point per match, now it's 4 per match. I don't know if it's mathematically possible, but you can't say "nobody was eliminated in the first round before" because the point rules have changed.

Disgusted with Longshot Lopen's 2007 Contest success? You ain't seen nothing yet!

- his correct call of the Ryu > Bowser upset has shot Lopen up into a tie for 16th out of the 183 Guru positions
- get this... if Face CATS has the power to withstand Peach's day vote push, Lopen will find himself alone in second place on the full Guru Rankings, trailing only KM. what the wha?!

So yeah, this Ryu over Bowser result has been finalized and should be reflected on all the pages. I've also made all the updates to brackets that have been posted. In other words we should be all set to move on to...

CATS' Finest Hour!

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=9

Sephiroth - 182 (99.45%)
Peach - 1 (0.55%)
---
Peach - 145 (79.23%)
CATS - 22 (12.02%)
Meta Knight - 15 (8.20%)
Sephiroth - 1 (0.55%)

Talk about an ideal position for our hero. He's got Sephiroth above him sucking away what will certainly be a good 60% of the total votes, and also severely weakening any Day Vote push the other characters could bring to the table. Then his competition are both Nintendo, both Brawl characters, potentially splitting their fanbase enough to let him sneak through. Hey, if Pyramid Head's followers were dedicated enough to keep him over 15%, who says the CATS Army couldn't do the same?

Tomorrow will either be a very disappointing CATS v Ansem 2.0, or the greatest day in GameFAQs history. Can't wait to get this thing started!

Haste:
Knuckles > Yoshi = 2
Mega Man > KOS-MOS = 4
Samus > Frog = 4
Midna > Scorpion = 2
Kefka > Marcus Fenix = 2
Cloud > Jill Valentine = 2
Auron > Shadow = 4
Bowser > Ryu = 2

2 + 4 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 2 +4 + 2 = 22.

So it's calcing correctly based on the bracket that's in there. The TROUBLE is that you actually picked Ryu instead of Bowser for yesterday's win. I'll update that now, but am afraid I'm going to have to ask you to look over what's entered more closely, and straight through to Link/Cloud this time!

===================
Yoshi > Knuckles
Mega Man > Diablo
Samus > Frog
Scorpion > Midna

Kefka > Tom Nook (god this is a terrible group)
Cloud > Jill
Auron > Shadow
Bowser > Ryu

Sephiroth > Peach
Wario > Fox
Mario > Pac-Man
Magus > Phoenix (see Kefka/Nook)

Come on people, I need you to

A. post your bracket accurately the first time

But since it's too late for that, then for pete's sake

B. check over your WHOLE bracket, as listed on the site, right now, and point out the mistakes

I'm not calling Cokes a liar, but just look at the situation he's put us in. He points out a mistake in his bracket 45 minutes after the result he originally posted no longer has any possibility of happening. I'll make the change, but it just doesn't look good, and it's going to keep on looking worse and worse the farther into the tournament we go.

So check your brackets now.

I won't kill you Mmage, but rest assured you are already dead to me.

But nah, honestly I don't mind making changes, my goal is just to get everyone's bracket to match up with their official entry. And as has been mentioned before, it's fortunate that we get to use the official Leaderboard as a kind of safety net, so even if people attempted to abuse the system they'd really only be able to bend, not break it. The only thing that gets to me is when people show up with an attitude problem, and then it turns out it was their own mistake all along.

(DC and Ray changes made BTW.) But anyways, enough about that, let's get back to what an amazing performance Fox is putting on! As someone who voted him every single round of the last two Nomination Rallies and has personally nommed him the last three years running, it really warms my heart to see this.

Yeah, no one else has both Yuna and Vincent advancing in the 3rd round (along with Yuna advancing in the 4th round). So you can pick up at least 8 points on anybody if you get those right. And that's not even getting into your 1st and 2nd round upsets.

Scores are only accurate relative to each other, as it's easier to update only when needed.

Ok, I have Samus>Mega Man, but apparently I typed it as Mega Man>Samus. I have no way to prove this... but I do have Cloud>Mega Man the next round. I mean, I don't really care that much, but I do expect Samus to beat Mega Man, and then Samus to have enough votes syphoned off of her by Bowser to let the Mega Man sneak through to the next round =)

If you believe me, you can make the switch. If not, no big deal; just wanted to point it out. Thanks again NGamer for running this; I cannot even begin to fathom how much time you have spent getting this thing into order, and we all appreciate your dedication.

If it matters, I can post the 6-8 changes to get my guru entry matched up with my official entry, though I am pretty sure you all would much rather have me use a bracket that has Luigi going so far and Snake finishing 2nd =)

Hm, well, Wario is as much a kiddie-vote chump as I'd expected him to be.... too bad Falcon had to disappoint so badly during the early morning hours, or we could have been in for a real classic. Still, this result is great for my bracket! Here's how we look with Fox > Wario having gone official.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

Look at that, all we need now is this Big Boss win, and I'll be in the Top Ten! But how likely is that to happen? Here's what we thought:

Mario - 183 (100.00%)

I can't believe that one Guru is eliminated this early!

And all the contests, this has happened me. Whenever I pick the most logical one (Sephy > Peach), there is one upset. But if I pick an upset, it never happens :(
Meh, according to this logic, Bomberman will take 2nd spot tomorrow rather than Phoenix ;__;

NGamer - after checking my bracket , you have two mistakes from my list. You have Ike > Gordon for me when my bracket has Ike > Duke. (I'd never take Freeman. Ever.)

The more notable one's for a match that's already happened. You have me with Scorpion > Midna when my bracket has Scorpion > Kratos. I doublechecked with both the bracket on site and the TextEdit file I copy and pasted into the guru topic. I hope this doesn't eliminate me (even if I've got a snowball's chance in spoon of actually winning), cause that would suck to be out so early.

Way to lay the hammer to them, Mario! Way to fold faster than a professional laundromat as soon as you feel the slightest bit of opposition, Pac! That's what I counted on those guys to do, and happy to see that it's paid off. With BB moving on, here's how the rankings have been effected:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

And look at that, it's moved everyone's favorite Guru into 10th place, whoo hoo! Not only that- he's only a Bomberman win from 5th! But is that really going to happen? Really?! Let's check the scoresheet.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=12

Magus - 177 (96.72%)
Phoenix Wright - 4 (2.19%)
Bomberman - 2 (1.09%)
---
Phoenix Wright - 93 (50.82%)
Bomberman - 78 (42.62%)
Crash Bandicoot - 8 (4.37%)
Magus - 4 (2.19%)

The overall win for Magus seems pretty clear (and we've never 100% missed the boat before on Magus, right Gurus? right?), but second place is very much in doubt. However, even though Bomberman lags a bit behind in the overall picks, I should point out that this is once again a case of those doing BEST so far this year having a good deal more faith in Bomberman. Looking at the top 30 spots on the rankings, only 14 of those users are putting all their eggs in the Phoenix Wright basket.

This match is doubly important since, IMO at least, it also gives us a strong indication of if the PW fanbase is going to be large enough this season to unseat Bidoof for that silver underneath Link. My money's on... "no."

Come on, Bomberman!

Not only did the Gurus go 123-0 to Magus over Knuckles in that match, the 152 brackets submitted to the BOP in 2005 went... 152-0 for Magus.

And then a week later we went 123-0 for Ocelot over Pac-Man. That was a very embarrassing stretch.

ZZ's bracket fixed.

Even more exciting though is this hot new update! Check it out fellas.

MMX's bracket (for example): http://www.thengamer.com/guru/bracket.php?id=148

I've updated everyone's bracket pages so that, as soon as the next match goes final, any mistaken picks you made are instantly turned bold. As you see on the top there, any risks you took by picking against the cookie are colored red, and then all the times you messed up, you got bolded. So when you take a risk AND it backfires on you, well, that's when it really stands out.

As always you can get to any Guru's personal bracket page by clicking their name anywhere on the site.

87 votes? Heck no I'm not going to call this! But, it IS time to look at what tomorrow's going to bring.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=13

Link - 183 (100.00%)
---
Miles Edgeworth - 92 (50.27%)
Bidoof - 89 (48.63%)
Agent J - 2 (1.09%)

With only 3 picks separating the two, that makes this the second most debatable result of the Contest, according to the Gurus. PW's shocking performance today would seem to give Miles the edge... with with Bidoof looking frankly iconic in that match picture, have the tables perhaps turned?

In light of today's very strange trends, this question has been asked alot in Chat and across the board today, so here's the answer.

Closest wire-to-wire matches where the loser was never able to take the lead (after the first 5 minutes):

Tidus > Shadow 2004, lead maxed at 1803
Snake > Bowser 2005, lead maxed at 2161
Resident Evil > Street Fighter, lead maxed at 2458
Dr. Robotnik > Sin 2005, lead maxed at 2680
Donkey Kong > Duck Hunt 2004, lead maxed at 3126

Today would be:

Phoenix Wright > Bomber 2007, lead maxed at 1313

(If, of course, you ignore that fact that neither of these characters will actually "win.")

so the updated list is

Phoenix Wright > Bomberman 2007, lead maxed at 1313*
Magus > Ganon 2003, lead maxed at 1783
Tidus > Shadow 2004, lead maxed at 1803
Snake > Bowser 2005, lead maxed at 2161
Resident Evil > Street Fighter, lead maxed at 2458
Dr. Robotnik > Sin 2005, lead maxed at 2680
Donkey Kong > Duck Hunt 2004, lead maxed at 3126

But back to the main point... I can't believe how funny this update is! New results applied, check it out:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

Yeah, I fell from 10th back to 22nd thanks to my risk, but check out the top of that leaderboard! Bidoof was nearly the favorite coming into this one, as I posted a couple hours back, but you'd never know it from the lack of red there in the top positions. As I noticed when entering the brackets, hardly anyone who had enough faith in the PW franchise to pick it toppling Bomberman then turned their back on it in favor of the "joke" Pokemon playing the next day. So, for almost everyone enjoying that PW win, the victory was certainly short-lived.

That hochiminh guy sure comes out looking smart though...

Gosh, what a nutty Contest.

Wow, this contest has been great! I mean, sure I miss the old contest, but there's so much more drama here! Where else can someone be eliminated on the first day?* Even if B-daman lost, it was so close! Though I guess he still beat a Bandicoot....and woo for picking Bidoof! Woo!

*No offense intended, Tomoyo. It's just that hard!

Mewtwo proved it, Bidoof is sure proving it... will our motto for 2007 be DBAP? Hm, it was just a few days back Meta Knight had me loving my Pit pick, but now I'm not so sure.

Result applied! Check how this first (of many?) Pokemon upsets has effected the rankings:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

A pretty decent shakeup, and tomorrow is guaranteed to be more of the same! This has got to be the coolest 1/2 battle of the entire first round, and I like it even more because there's no secondary Nintendo or Square characters in the background to leach away enough votes to effect the outcome. Only downside is that having Link breaking up the party next round has turned this crucial decision into a 2 point pick, rather than the ~14 point head scratcher it should have been. But ah well... here's what we thought!

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=14

Vincent - 97 (53.01%)
Zelda - 86 (46.99%)
---
Zelda - 95 (51.91%)
Vincent - 82 (44.81%)
Tails - 5 (2.73%)
The Boss - 1 (0.55%)

Auron looked great, Midna disappointed, Link isn't running away with today's match by quite as much as people expected. Are all signing pointing to ZeldaFAQs not being able to equal its traditional domination in the new format? Well I'll tell you what, our current top Gurus don't think so! The Top 30 gives the Princess a good bit more faith than the Guru average, as she manages a 15/15 split with Vincent up top.

Should be a classic!

Still can't figure out why the whole stats topic hate you. Considering I still talk to steve illumina on AIM whenever he appears, that probably simply means you're a great guy =P
It's kinda twisted though, how Phoenix burned me when I called him losing in a close match but Edgey just falls flat on his face. Probably mean my Mudkip pick ain't going to pull through somehow >_>

Actually, the dominant characters haven't been great all contest. I don't think here's been ANYONE who broke 60% so far. With more choices, "traditional" votes are going elsewhere- especially since more and more are bracket voting to prevent a repeat of, say, Magus<Knuckles. Besides- we should all just focus on our favorites doing so well now that they don't have to kill Snake or Link to win. GOOOOO META KNIGHT!

Hey, at least I'm being honest here....

1.) He won't win, and you know that.

2.) People need to not go back on their word in this thing. I know I don't join, but that's precisely the point - I don't want to be held to my word to nominate crap like Wario or Toadette, and that's exactly what I would do if I joined the Guru. It's a contest, and you should keep to your word regardless of how obnoxious the competition's being.

I dunno, just my two cents.

Yikes, did I ever luck out with this one. Move Link out of the division next to these two, and I'd have taken Zelda to top him right down the line. As is, not only do I limit my damage today to just two points, I also got to lock in that Vincent over Crono upset, which needless to say I'd put any money on at this point! Yeah Vince, break that Noble Nine!

But yeah, with VV > Z applied, here's where we stand:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

And for tomorrow... do we have another great showing from MGS in store? Here's how likely we think that is.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=15

Crono - 183 (100.00%)
---
Raiden - 145 (79.23%)
Simon - 19 (10.38%)
Sam Fisher - 19 (10.38%)

Another case where there seems to be a little doubt if you check the overall, but pretty much every one of the high-scoring brackets to this point is backing Raiden.

Erm, appeared I jumped the gun on that payoff prediction... Though Lloyd is sure to have a monster Day Vote to pull off this comeback. Right? Please?

Here's our thoughts heading in:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=16

Zero - 179 (97.81%)
HK-47 - 3 (1.64%)
Lloyd - 1 (0.55%)
---
Lloyd - 113 (61.75%)
Jak - 36 (19.67%)
HK-47 - 30 (16.39%)
Zero - 4 (2.19%)

Everyone has been jumping ship on Lloyd ever since Zelos underperformed a couple weeks back, but what I found interesting was that just as many were getting on the Jak bandwagon as were HK's. Well the Jak Jumpers are clearly wrong... let's hope those 47ers end up in the same boat, eh?

Words cannot describe how much I hate Lloyd.

Dekar, you DID post for HK, that was my bad. Updated now.

Speaking of updates, I took out my anger on Lloyd by calling him out of this match already and applying the HK-47 advancement. Here's how that mistake by so many of us has effected the standings:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

Bah. Well, time to hope for a better result tomorrow. But it's not going to be pretty for most of us; not only is this the closest split of the entire bracket (72 picks to 70), but we're also giving a third option a great change to advance as well! Check it out

Luigi - 182 (99.45%)
Mudkip - 1 (0.55%)
---
Pit - 72 (39.34%)

Tingle - 40 (21.86%)

--Yuna1/Chief2/Liquid2/LittleMac2/Laharl2/Vyse2/Wesker2
--2Midna2/2Peach2/2Yuna1/2Chief2
--3Luigi2

*************

48 KrahenProphet
--Mudkip2/Yuna1/Chief2/Liquid2/Amaterasu2/Donkey1/Kratos2
--2Midna2/2Peach2/2Yuna1/2Chief2/2Aeris2
--3Luigi2

If Mudkip, Little Mac, and L-Block all win Mithrandir will be eliminated. Down 12 points and only able to pick up 10.

And captaincanadian could be in a bit of danger:

46 captaincanadian
--Mudkip2/Thrall2/Ike1/Gordon2
--2Bowser1/2Auron2/2Peach2
--4Chief2

*************

50 Sephirot
--Amaterasu2/Vyse2/Duke2
--2Fenix2/2Bowser1/2Auron2/2Tidus2
--4Chief2

If Pit, Vergil, and Amaterasu win, captaincanadian would be eliminated. Down 10 with only 9 able to be picked up.

Don't really see any other ones coming up, unless something really strange happens.

DBAP rides again! Here's hoping we say that one more time this round.

Mudkip applied, and the 70 who lik him move ahead.

Another divided match tomorrow, though at least this time there was a clear favorite. Too bad everyone's been jumping ship on him for two weeks!

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=18

Ganondorf - 183 (100.00%)
---
Vergil - 112 (61.20%)
Thrall - 54 (29.51%)
Ratchet - 17 (9.29%)

Let's hope Thrall pulls a Kerrigan on us, and not an Arthas. Eh boys?

Uhh, NGamer, I know you said to clear up any possible mistakes made in typing up and entering the brackets a few days ago, but I've just noticed two more that I have in neither of my brackets (both of which are painfully obvious mistakes I made when c+p'ing)

Fixed that right up.

Well, my bracket loves this hot DMC night vote, but unfortunately I don't see any way that Blizzard doesn't go on an absolute tear once the sun rises. Though on the other hand, I've been wrong with every single day vote call to this point in the season, so maybe my streak can continue.

Original picks: 58 points. Actual picks: 52 points. I'm still six points behind, *sniffle*... worse yet is that I only have only three picks left that differ between them.... the next three matches, interestingly enough. The follow HAS to happen for my changes to even out: Yuna > Master Chief, Dante > Amaterasu, and...Ness > Alucard.

Wow, can't believe the Day/ASV proved me wrong again!

Well it's like you were saying in Stats tranny, the only thing consistent with Blizzard is inconsistency. SC was an enormous Day chump in every single match (then again, can you think of better ASV studs than Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda, and Melee?), but Diablo's been decent with it, and Diablo + Arthas made good ground with it a couple weeks back, and let's not forget that big push Warcraft made to get out in front of GTA once the sun rose. Then again, I suppose you could chalk some of that up to the old Tuesday morning rolling server blackouts... maybe without them, WC would have behaved more like we saw out of Thrall today.

well with SC, I was looking at Kerrigan more than Starcraft, though that was obviously legendary in the nighttime. and Arthas was more of a night guy than a day guy. we didn't know what would happen in the daytime here.

still confused as to why Vergil won the morning so easily, but eh, who knows. maybe the hardcore rallying fell off? no idea.

Well now, color me surprised. I just remember KOS starting out so hot in that match and yet ending up looking pretty cruddy, and guess I assumed all the percentage she was losing was going to Blizzard. But looking at it now, even though KOS lost nearly a full percentage after the sun rose in the East, all of that plus some of the Blizzard vote ended up going MM's way.

...bleeding daytime percentage to Mega Man? Honestly, that's just sick. So guess WC/GTA is the only good showing the company has had during the day after all.

Now to move on to one of the coolest 1/2 battles of the round. Let's hope Yuna doesn't pull a Zelda on us! Need a good shootout for first place one of these days.

Yuna - 105 (57.38%)
Master Chief - 75 (40.98%)

Master Chief has made a lot of BELIEVErs today, let me tell you! Sure Ganon looked hot in the first round, but how is he supposed to compete with this? Yikes.

Since this is now well out of hand and just getting uglier and uglier, result has been applied and we're moving onwards and upwards.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

Moltar's as good as advertised, moving into sole position of the top spot. hoochie coochie take a stumble with his Yuna pick, but could be right back on top if Lake acts like an MGS character who has reason to be a good ways ahead of Big Boss, rather than an MGS character who has reason to be right in that Raiden ballpark. Alucard > Ness was the Guru cookie, but we sure don't have much confidence in it happening, including on top, where only 15 of the 30 best brackets are expecting that result. The full stats look thusly:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=20

Alucard - 138 (75.41%)
Ness - 22 (12.02%)
Liquid Snake - 17 (9.29%)
Zidane - 6 (3.28%)
---
Ness - 94 (51.37%)
Liquid Snake - 47 (25.68%)
Alucard - 34 (18.58%)
Zidane - 8 (4.37%)

If there's one poll all year with a chance to be a four way battle for the top spot, I'd have to say this is the one.

Yikes, what a day! The closest match of all time, our first-ever 0 point result, all kinds of comebacks and stalls and turnabouts... and to think, these two get to renew their rivalry again in only a few weeks! Though it would be much more epic if they could do so in a battle for second. But I guess with the way Yuna caved in the face of the slightest pressure last time around, anything's possible there.

The crazy result has been applied- check out the shakeup!

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

As for the current match, Ammy's looking great right now, but will such a cult character be able to stand up to the day vote? Yes, she will? Well, shoot. Still, glad I talked myself into switching over from Matt to Little Mac a few days before brackets locked; that's a moral victory if nothing else! Here's how the rest of us were thinking when things locked down:

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=21

Dante - 183 (100.00%)
---
Matt - 75 (40.98%)
Amaterasu - 57 (31.15%)
Little Mac - 51 (27.87%)

Matt as not only the favorite, but by a clear margin... Yeah, I'm not sure what we were thinking. Suppose the Wii domination in polls this year just got into our heads.

I think Scorpion is stronger than Ness in this contest... he didn't just dominate Midna, but Kratos Aurion, too. Lloyd himself didn't do too shabby, since he was only doubled by Zero, as opposed to nearly being tripled either. This might be a great format for fighting game characters (and I'm also really curious about Nightmare now), though there's nothing decisive at all. I wonder if Sub-Zero might be able to get within 10% of Sonic? (as crazy as that sounds)

Ugh, hard to believe I was in the Top Ten not too long back.

And now for a match that, I think, could be alot more interesting than we're giving it credit for.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=23

Tidus - 172 (93.99%)
Pikachu - 11 (6.01%)
---
Pikachu - 133 (72.68%)
Serge - 29 (15.85%)
Tidus - 11 (6.01%)
Isaac - 10 (5.46%)

After so many disappointing years in a row, I expected more than just 11 to back the upset and pick against Tidus here. Though to be fair we had to fill these out before knowing Mewtwo, Bidoof, and Mudkip were all going to far exceed expectations. Throw in a little Square leaching from the 15% or so that Serge is going to earn and... it could be tight. Right? RIGHT?!

Somehow, I don't think Tidus is going to win the day vote. >_>

Hey, how was I supposed to know that Pikachu was hated for being a pokemon and not for being a weak rat (he sucks w/out a certain item in the metagame)?

It sucks that many people who had these 2 last matches right were at the bottom (but well, there were also people at the top of it, of course).

And I still ask myself why, having just 22 risks, I have such a low score while someone with 51 risks (o_____O) has a higher score than me

Pika Pika Pika win applied!

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/

We're pretty much in agreement about tomorrow's result, though it's kind of odd that 4 of the top 17 have some kind of upset brewing. Including the solo #1.

http://www.thengamer.com/guru/stats.php?match=24

Leon - 159 (86.89%)
Vivi - 21 (11.48%)
Ridley - 3 (1.64%)
---
Vivi - 151 (82.51%)
Leon - 19 (10.38%)
Ridley - 12 (6.56%)
Spyro - 1 (0.55%)
