The scoreboard itself isn't all the exciting right now, since we all agreed on wins for Samus and Ada, but what you should certainly do is to take the link to Guru Brackets. That will lead you to

Be sure to check your bracket as displayed there against what you have officially entered, and post back with any differences. Also inform me of any problems with your Battle Royale or Tiebreaker, if they should come up.

Wondering if your bracket is unique? The quickest way to tell is to click the header and sort All Brackets by number of "risks" (that is, picks against the cookie cutter) taken. Then it's just a matter of glancing over the few brackets in your row to see if any duplicate you.

Hot Stats!

- only one complete cookie cutter bracket was submitted this season (by swirl)! and only four Gurus sent almost-cookies that take only one risk (Dark, Wiggum, Yesmar, and Falcon)

- in total there were 735 risks taken this season. between the 120 Gurus that comes out to an average of 6.125 picks against the consensus, making this the most disputed GameFAQs Contest in history!

- Lopen and chocoboslayer set the new standard in cookie-smashing, as each predict 15 upsets this Fall. oddly, the two can agree on only 5 upsets (Riku > Yoshi, Vincent > Ganon, Dante > Riku, and Mario beating Seph in the BR)

In my defense, and for other cookie cutters out there, I feel, especially for this bracket, many matches that we've reached a consensus on can easily go the other way. Celes/Big Boss, Kairi/Claire, Yoshi/Dante, Zero/Kirby, Zero/Luigi, etc. But, hey, I"ll take it; I'm pretty happy with my bracket, though I confess to switching to Samus literally the last minute of bracket time.

Disagreeing with how signups are handled didn't get anyone banned. In Smurf's case, he decided to troll/stalk me for hours on end until he got himself suspended. When he wasn't able to whine about me on Board 8 anymore, he took it AIM with his typical ten year-old insults. Turtle was booted for more or less the exact same reason; he decided that he was not only too good to troll/stalk me on Board 8, but felt like making multiple now-modded topics about me on Tranny's home board when no one over there honestly gave a rat's ass. It annoyed Tranny enough to where he took GF off of his bookmarks and took a small break from the place.

Other minor boots were Read_Only_Thx for trolling the stats topic and RPGuy's NCAA contest a few times, and MoogleKupo141's second entry for being a smartass and trying to sign up for #141 on the list when he was already on there =p

That said, I'm a what have you done for me lately kind of guy. Tai was a jackass to me for like two years, and was booted from this thing twice in the past. But he's been cool of late, so I left him on there. Ditto for consolefreak. Despite the perception people have of me, it takes a LOT to convince me to actually boot someone off the Guru list.

When I find out who locked The Tempest....all hell is gonna break loose.
The Choco has spoken.

I have 78 points in upsets, mostly in Crono > Samus (32), my Battle Royale of Female < Mario < Sephiroth < Male < Cloud < Link (24), and Aeris > Zelda (12), with the remaining 10 points spread out over 7 upsets.

This means that it's almost possible for me to get the champion wrong, with Samus winning, and still win the guru contest, with only transience beating me (and only by 2 points) if all my other upsets work out. So I'll probably win, or come close at least, or end up with the worst bracket in the history of the guru contest.

And I feel it almost necessary to be somewhat of a killjoy. See how I used almost and somewhat to buffer the negative thing I'm going to say? Anyway, having inoridinate amount of upsets, while it will techinically keep you alive longer, doesn't make you a better competitor, just more extreme and exciting. I mean, we shouldn't forget that upsets are upsets after all; they technically aren't supposed to happen.

Because other than that pick (in this case Claire/Kairi), the other people have the same exact bracket, meaning no matter how the rest of the contest goes, whoever loses this match will always have a lower score than the ones who got this match right, and are thus eliminated.

It's because someone else has a bracket so similar that losing that match makes it impossible for someone to finish ahead of that other bracket. Some people have the same bracket, with the exception of the Claire/Kairi match. If they lose the Claire/Kairi match, they can't possibly finish ahead of that other person, and thus can't win the contest.

Only because the Villains contest was so pathetically weak it wasn't even funny. You can get 300 Board users to nominate CATS, and Ceej will stick him with his traditional 8 seed. Jay Solano is a completely different story, as he has never even made it into the contest. And as for Ceej's "He didn't even have close to enough nominations" I call BS. With Round One of the Female Bracket not offering a single upset based on seeding, I've heard some B8ers describe this as the most predictable first round in Contest history. With 8 Contests now on the books, that's a pretty big statement to make, but it seemed possible. So, using my AllStats spreadsheet, I decided to look into it.

Through the first 16 matches, here are the historic global Predictability Rankings for GameFAQs Contests.

Most Difficult Contests to Predict (to this point)

Close, but not quite! The 8 and 16 Bit Divisions of the Great Game Contest prove just predictable enough to keep the Female Bracket from scraping the bottom of the barrel, historically.

As long as I have it up, here are the overall rankings when taking into account every match from all the Contests.

No matter how you look at it, a R1 upset is guaranteed in SOME form. Luigi/Zero will at least be an upset in the overall prediction percentage, I'm sure, and if Luigi wins, it's a big miss for Board 8. And, we're only half-way through R1, anyway, so there's room for a Board 8 upset, still.

Very cool info with regards to overall difficulty of the contests, Ngamer. (Also, I managed to retrieve the Sp2K6 PP data thanks to to that spreadsheet) It would be great if you could do the same thing with the Guru's predictions, as well (though obviously SC2K2 and SC2K3 wouldn't have it).

With only 90 correct predictions (67.15%), I fear we may have just been out-predicted by the casuals for the first time all Contest. If so, it would snap a streak that... actually isn't all that long, now that I look at it. We were owned quite handily as recently as the last match of the BSE, when 80% of Gurus foolishly assumed that FF7 > OoT + diversity of FF titles - solidarity of Zelda fanbase =ed Final Fantasy > Zelda. 36% of the casuals knew better.

This result also cost us a rather stunning 15 Perfects, lowering that number to only 29/134 (21.64%).

Z1mZum won the Guru Contest. I picked Pokemon over Metroid, GTA over Warcraft, Halo over CV, Street Fighter over RE, and FF over Zelda.

MM wins, and we all prosper! The real news of the day, though, is that hilarious 52% number for Kratos sitewide. What were the casuals thinking? Now, if there had been some confusion between the SF Ryu and the one from Ninja Gaiden, this would be entirely understandable. But it said "Ryu (Street Fighter)" right there on the bracket! And since when does Ryu, a gaming icon, get 3% less bracket support than Alucard?

Anyways, this boosts the Gurus to owning 29 of the mere 395 remaining Perfects, for 7.34%.

Looking toward tomorrow... what % does Sonic need on CATS for you to consider him the Male Champ favorite? Keeping in mind, of course, that CATS has correctly predicted two Champions in the past.

I think that's all of them. Some are pretty hard to find though, so they might be missing. As far as I can tell, Heroic Mario is still somehow alive with Ganon losing. Just needs Dante and Zero to get their upsets, Vincent to take the male bracket (or lose to someone other than Sonic/Snake/Mega Man/Crono, who then takes the male bracket) and get his battle royale right.
