Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

You don't know. Sometime it'll stay there.

I don't see any reason to believe the match will end much differently than it will now. Kefka is suddenly going to be receiving some sort of serious advantage as we progress through the night. I figured that was rather apparent by now.

But until he actually starts "rising" past the 100 vote mark and on is when that would be better suited. Not, "OMG! KEFKA HAS A LEAD OF 50 votes now!" only to have it back down to 30 a few minutes later or whatever.

Oh. I wouldn't know, it's not like I'm a cop.

"This line gave rise to the term "self-help booklet scene" among gamers to refer to similar sequences in other games."

Is that true, or is it more of an inside thing?

To be honest with you, I expect to wake up tomorrow to a Kefka victory as much as I expected to wake up to a Crono victory two years ago. I still remember that... I only checked the Seph/Alucard results, then I went on the board and all there was was "OMG MARIO WON?!?" topics. I went back to the bracket, and lo and behold, Mario was there in all his glory. That was hilarious, especially since I picked Mario.

I'm playing 3S at Einstein's arcade in Austin Texas, down by the UT campus, and this little kid challenges me. I use Ken's (IMO) worst super in the game: Shoryu-Reppa. The little kid get mad, and starts jamming on the buttons. He thinks that if he plays Elena like he would play Eddy or Christie in Tekken, he could scrub his way to a win. Didnt work out, so he gets mad walks off.

Later that day, I was talking with a friend of mine. Suddenly the punk kid comes back and walks right up to me. Emily(my friend) asks if I knew him, and I just jestered a no awnser. He says he can get his revenge on me now, but we both just laugh. Suddenly, something unexpected happened....

PIRATE NINJAS! THOUSANDS OF THEM! SWARMING THE STREET!

We were surronded, and I got pretty ruffed up. Em, being(albeit) preppy, didnt really attack. She just stood there in awe of the pirate ninjas...and the fact that there were THOUSANDS OF THEM anyway. The beating came to a sudden stop when one of them stepped on my clean, white Nike Air Force Ones.

*cameo*Will Smith:AW HELL NAH!!!

The fighting sprit inside of me awoke, and I proceeded to kick everyone's ass in a very stlyish manner. Try as I did, they still proceeded with knocking me down. The kid's smug laughter echoed in the head, but he stopped abruptly when...

Ken Masters and RYU HAYABUSA OF NINJA GAIDEN SHOWED UP!

Pirate ninjas:Argh, it be ye ol' Ninja Master, Ryu! *all bow*

During the showing of respect, Ken took the time to show off an awesome move of his....SHIPPU-JINRAI-KYAKU! A fury of kicks strechted acrossed the asses of every pirate ninja, and the kid started to back away when Ken threw him in the air and did the same thing I did to the kid in Third Strike eariler that day.

SHORYU-REPPA!

The kid lay on the ground...possiably dead...and still on fire from the dragon punch onslaught.

Ken: Still think its a crap super art now?

Me:LOL, not anymore.

Ken:Did you just say..."LOL" out of context?

Me:...No...

Ryu:Whatever, lets get out of here.

Ken:Sure, but one more thing...

Ken and Ryu take off...but take Emily as well!

What will I do? Why isnt Street Fighter Ryu in here? Why is Tommy losing to Kefka?

To be countinued....

Stop acting holier than thou. Both sides are cheating, and from what I've seen (and marked) the Vercetti stuffers are being more obvious about it.

I still want people to show me how Kefka didn't do better with the night vote in his past matches. I'm aware he didn't WIN the night vote, or even increase his percentage in most cases...but still, something always seemed off to me about that. You either do better with the night vote or worse, you don't do exactly the same--there's always a discrepancy. And I have a hard time believing Kefka did WORSE with the night vote...

I know it's hard to see Kefka doing well on the prediction percentage, but there are a LOT of bracket voters that will look at him and think "FINAL FANTASY = INSTANT WIN" and put that down in the bracket. Which is why you always see so much confusion whenever he or any other low-tier FF Character bows out...

In any case, more than half the brackets made the call for Ness over CJ. I'm thinking it'll be the same here.

And the opposite would be true in the case of Angel Kefka.

Now's a good time to comment that Kefka's on a rise and will probably stay there for the rest of the match. I'm pretty surprised it happened so suddenly, but at this point, Kefka's looking really good at winning this one, unfortunately.

It's funny, but I've only lost tw points thus far, both of them being because of GTA characters.

Analysis

Since today’s match is really close I don’t plan on making this a really long analysis and besides we all know that Crono is easily going to win today’s match. So after easily beating Mario in 2k4 both Crono and Mario are put across the bracket and there only chance to meet would be in the finals and with no Clinkeroth there’s a chance that they might meet again. Zidane is from Final Fantasy IX and with other Final Fantasy IX characters being in this contest we can get a feel for how strong he is.

With Clinkeroth out of the bracket, Crono has a chance on taking this contest and is the second most favorite character on the boards (behind Samus of course). Also out of what’s left of the noble 9 I think Crono has the easiest path with only his semi-final and final match that will bring him under 60%.

If you ask me I don’t think that Zidane is very strong. Even before SFF happens I don’t think that Zidane could break 30%, why because Final Fantasy IX characters have been weak lately. First we have Kuja, the villain losing to a glove from Super Smash Bros. Melee (who by the way isn’t strong either) then we have Vivi underperforming against Zelda. I also think that Zidane is weaker then Vivi because people could infer him to the Black Mage that appears in some Final Fantasy games.

Now how much SFF will this match have? Well since it is Old Square vs. New Square it might be less, but there will still be SFF none-of-the-less. I’m expecting a tripling to happen in this match I won’t be surprised if Crono quadruple Zidane since he almost did the same thing to Kefka in 2k3 and he’s seem to have grown stronger.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Crono over Zidane Tribal

charmander6000’s Prediction: Crono wins, 77.38% - 22.62%

That doesn't make sense though. It's not like only one character can be supported per series.

There's a noticeable absence, though, of Terra/Kefka comparisons when there was an abundance of Cecil/Terra ones...

On a side note, how much do you think Kefka would score on Crono next round if it was his sprite round and he got made with his sprite pic that he's most known for? With or without SFF?

I know it's going to be probably close to or worse than the previous time, even under those circumstances, but I want to hear what others think.

Yes, I realize that. He's the only issue with that, but perhaps he's "special" in this whole ordeal. I know if you take Vercetti's unadjusted value and Kefka's adjusted value this match comes out to be impossible to call by stats -- basically what we're seeing today. Not that I can yet justify adjusting Kefka and not adjusting everyone else.

If you seriously think a significant percentage of votes have been coming from vote stuffers, throughout the match, you're smoking something. Considering you have absolutely no evidence of it other than your impressions of vote swings throughout the day, it's a bit much to swallow. The idea that people would be constantly stuffing votes is a bit much. Compare the votal total at the end of the day to other matches and see how it differs.

Auron/Big Boss - 3,055 votes; Auron +2210 (last hour: 2361)

Zelda/Vivi - 3,544 votes; Zelda +2053 (last hour: 2115)
Alucard/Kratos - 2,975 votes; Alucard +1583 (last hour: 1587)
Sora/Agent - 3,007 votes; Sora +2145 (last hour: 2183)
Kirby/Cecil - 3,270 votes; Kirby +2417 (last hour: 2521)
Bowser/Chun - 3,245 votes; Bowser +2013 (last hour: 2195)
Ryu/Rikku - 3,615 votes; Ryu +2025 (last hour: 2110)
M.C./CATS - 3,046 votes; M.C. +2114 (last hour: 2289)
DK/Sam - 2,702 votes; D.K. +1670 (last hour: 1736)
Kefka/Tommy - 4,016 votes; Kefka +2127 (last hour: 2040)

Kefka vs. Tommy has brought in the highest vote totals for that hour of the contest so far, but with a match this close, it shouldn't be that big of a surprise...the notable thing here is that Kefka's vote total for the hour was up from the hour before, a feat matched only by Frog among match leaders. In Frog's case, Riku's vote totals also went up slightly from the 18:00 - 19:00 hour, but in Kefka's case, Vercetti's vote totals dipped from 2,032 to 1,889, which seems fairly in line with what we've seen from most other characters in this contest.

FYI, current No. 10 is Mario vs Cloud 2k2 with 277 vote gap.

We can hope, but it's very unlikely to happen.

This match, in no way, can be called over until 3 AM EST. Kefka was supposed to run away with the night vote, but after going up 250, he's lost 2/5 (100 votes) of that lead. This is anyone's match, just like I thought it would be. I wanted to believe the night vote would not help Kefka for the sake of my bracket, and it looks like I was right. :-)

Kefka's going to be bitten in the ass for not running without the night vote. Timmy packed ammo well for this match.

Whatever, same principle. Actually, in terms of the leaps that Vercetti took, depending on how long he could have held them he would have been closer to that 1000 vote mark or even surpassed it. But Vercetti was EXTREMELY erratic during the day...about the same as Kefka is now, actually...

The night vote *is* helping Kefka, even if he's just losing votes. If Vercetti was gaining at the same rate he was during the day, he'd be up by a thousand by now.

You, sir, have not been watching this match today. Vercetti has struggled all day to get this far.

Heh, no wonder Tommy appears to be weaker. I went to the GTA:Vice City board. It has a whopping 4 pages, and all of 2-3 topics calling for Tommy Vercetti votes. Looks like Vice City doesn't even have much of a community, as far as GameFAQs goes...

I went to GTA:San Andreas, and the first topic I saw was "Who is Tommy Vercetti?". There was one topic on the first page calling for Tommy Vercetti votes. The first response was a threat to mark for off-topic posting.

Tommy Vercetti = pwned by his own fans

Yes, I have. At one point, Vercetti cut the lead from 800 to 400 in what seemed like no time at all. It's just that he took off in spurts, and would tend to stall at intervals of 100 along the way (the 'barriers', lol). Kefka was relatively constant throughout the day--but he was getting his fair share of 'CHEATER' accusations there too.

He's had one big push with it. He really hasn't done much.

Again, if Vercetti had kept pace like he was doing during the day--ESPECIALLY during the midday, he would be winning now. Even if Kefka loses votes against him, he's not losing them by as much as he would have.

On a related note, what Square characters have had major pushes with the night vote that have made the difference in a close match? I only remember Sephiroth in 2002, Frog last year, and Magus in 2003. Cloud and Crono have both been in close night vote matches and lost.

The question is: will Ceej do anything about it?

We all remember the intervention between Mario and Crono. One side cheating more than the other, and a lot of anger on the boards afterwards...

Hardly. Kefka is doing way better than expected even if he loses.

What happens if less than 50% of brackets have this match correct (in the event that he does lose)?

You cant even compare the cheating on both sides. If Tommy has cheated badly, the guys who have been doing it are amazing. Kefka has had a regular interval of jumping 20+ votes in a second. Then he just jumped 70.

That wasn't for a first round match that means relativly nothing (since whoever wins gets crushed by Crono) though, was it?

People have a lot of faith in Kefka, they're fanatical about him. To a lot of people, this *is* their Mario v. Crono. Hence all the votestuffing.

As for stuffing for Tommy...I don't get that at all. Bracket salvagers? o_O

Maybe...he'll just leave it like this to prevent future cheats and not subtract any votes?

. . .

Explain to me how that will prevent future cheating. He's very capable of subtracting the votes necessary to change this match outcome. He detected somewhere in the neighboorhood of 1500 cheat votes for StarCraft before stopping, although he never had to remove them because SSBM was already winning. Obviously, this is an entirely different case.

I would definitely suspect that he'll remove the votes from Kefka. Now, before anyone says "Vercetti had vote stuffers too!" I'm well-aware of that. But if they were not offseting each other -- and from what I hear, Kefka's gains were absurd -- then he'll remove votes. Remember, it isn't like he has to dig up thousands. All that is necessary is enough to change the match outcome, which is less than 200 votes.

Ugh, I don't want a re-do of the poll. Tons of voters will not vote thinking it's the exact same poll going on...that could alter the results. I think Jill should've beaten Ryu Hayabusa for the same reason. :[

This entire poll is just shot to hell. Vercetti's increases have dropped by like 40-50 an update from the very second that the poll was altered. Yeah, Romero was a major factor, but Vercetti was also getting stuffed votes like mad. Maybe not all from one source, but clearly of a pretty large magnitude.
