Think about how many games are really challenging SSBM though, as far as the Gamecube is concerned. It's the best-selling game on the system, and it's now packaged with the system to boot. We saw what we believe to be a general rise in Nintendo characters this past contest, and it could partially be blamed on SSBM being sold with the Gamecube nowadays. You could also blame some on the DS attracting more Nintendo-oriented fans, but then that brings up a game they'd most likely be interested in: SSBM.

I can see it as high as #2 in the final list, though I'm keeping it at #4 for now.

Bingo. I've been gaming for as long as I can remember (final days of the Atari, I believe, was about that time), and I never even heard of Adventure 'til the Game Contest. Since then, I've played it, and...well...I know I'm now accustomed to games way past its era, but I can still respect and have fun with Pong. Adventure was nothing short of horrible when I tried it, and I assume most people who've played it in the past five years, old-school or not, would agree.

Hearing of Adventure getting SFF'd by LoZ is wrong though, unless Adventure is capable of being SFF'd by every game from the NES days and up...and Pong. Depending on who the joke-votes favor, Adventure be lucky to take E.T. to the edge, too.

Even if it WAS the victim of SFF against LoZ (be insanely generous and say the match should have been 55-45 or insanely realistic and say Adventure still should be below 6% against LoZ, whichever you like)...judging by the incredible-sized gap between them, why not put LoZ in Adventure's place? Obviously so many more people like it more than Adventure, and it's newer and more recognized. Let's not forget how big a force the LoZ series is here.

Feel free to keep Adventure in there, but there's plenty of reason to think it's a joke to put it on the list when it's not unreasonable to think at least ten WRITE-INS will get more votes than Adventure.

How was the nomination method highly biased towards Tetris? People probably think of Tetris most on the NES and Gameboy. On NES, people definitely have one or two others they think to nominate first, and I don't even know if there was a separate field for Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance.

Super Mario Bros 1 could potentially be a contender. Obviously it'd have been the weakest Mario game in the contest if it was also allowed, and should be at least as close to SMW as SMW is to SMB3 (and a bit closer, I'd say). That'd put it with the likes of the original FF, of course, but also into the upper 1/3rd still. I'd call that a notable absence. That said, I'd be willing to bet there are no less than half a dozen games that could fill the gap between Metroid and Contra from the 8bit era in a regular contest.

It's not because it's becoming stronger, it's just that FF10 and GTA games don't have anywhere near the staying power it did. And that GotY poll was taken back when the difference between PS2 and Gamecube ownership was at its largest, as well.

Staying power will mean diddly squat, here. Especially when the most recent of the other Super Seven games came out in 1998.

While I'm iffy on it making top 10 I'd be willing to bet it beats out SC which seems to be more popular in the spot.

Also, yeah, SSBM low is a risk I'm willing to take, I think the board just vastly overrates it and that it won't see that level of support among the casuals. While I expect is slot in the top 10 to be guarenteed I think it'll remain rather low.

Frankly, people are looking at SpC2k4 contest results as if they mattered in this sort of environment. I think SC getting a 16 seed is just as telling as it being 2nd strongest (possibly not legitimately) in its division. It's a top 15 game, maybe, but I don't see it on the final list.

As for LoZ, well... I think it only got 3rd seed in SpC2k4 because Tetris got loads and loads of votes from the GB version (for lack of anything better, to a degree). That said, I think in terms of nomination power I don't tihnk it's THAT far off of SMB3 and I'd be willing to bet it ranks higher than the board gives credit for.
