A few frequently asked questions about the bracket... From: CJayC | Posted: 6/30/2004 4:03:17 PM | Message Detail No Zelda/Yuna/Rikku/Geno/Wario/Serge? Every character nominated in the top 32 made it in, and I only allowed in the top 10 characters from any one company in order to give the bracket a little more diversity. An all-Nintendo vs. all-Square bracket might please a few people, but it'd just annoy most everybody else. No Aeris? Wasn't even in the top 100 vote-getters. I'm as surprised as you. No Starcraft Characters? The Starcraft contingent couldn't decide on a character to nominate, and no, "Mass Carriers" is not a character. Besides, how many people actually ever talk about the characters in the game? No Joke Characters? What, aren't you happy with CATS? A joke character wouldn't have lasted a round. Granted, none of the 15 and 16 seeds have a real shot, but at least they're fairly well-known to the mass public (who do most of the voting in the contest). In-jokes are only funny to those in the know. You stacked the brackets! Duh. But not as much as you'd think. The seedings are accurate as to the number of nominations a character got for the most part (with only 3-4 shifts up and down a seed or two, generally to more accurately reflect the number of expected votes vs. organized efforts to get a character into the bracket). Of course, I made sure to then arrange the seeds into brackets where we should get some interesting (read: hard to call) match-ups all the way through the tournament, and likely avoid a same-game/company final round. --- The company has not shut down. From: CJayC | Posted: 8/30/2004 8:21:45 PM | Message Detail One of the servers, for some reason, didn't update the home page, so half of the site's visitors were seeing the wrong poll. Not sure when this happened (nobody mailed me about it until mid-afternoon), but just to be safe, we're going to have a do-over. Whee! --- The company has not shut down. [The state] can’t do that. From: CJayC | Posted: 8/31/2004 4:53:17 PM | Message Detail No mass voting detected at all. No significant proxy server usage (50 votes total from suspect IPs, split fairly evenly). No mass voting from a single IP found (except for what looks a lot like two different guys who voted for their favorite character with multiple accounts, but effectively canceling each other completely out). No significant vote shifts (in every block of 1000 consecutive votes, neither side gains unexpectedly) I'll check again closer to midnight, but this one's just a popular contest. --- The company has not shut down. From: CJayC | Posted: 10/1/2004 11:28:26 PM | Message Detail Complaining about the match pictures? Think you can submit a better final battle picture than anyone else? Prove it. Create a JPEG image, 200 x 125 pixels, and send it to finalbattle@gamefaqs.com as an attachment. Submit your entry before 10PM Pacific Time on October 2nd for consideration. I'll choose what I think are the best pics and have them rotate for the final day. A few notes: * Artwork used must be official artwork, from in-game screenshots, or artwork you create yourself. You may use unofficial fan-art or photography only with the permission of the original creator(s). * 200 x 125 pixel JPEG is not a recommendation. It's the only acceptable format. Your image should be in its final format, ready to be displayed. * Send the image as an attachment, not an embedded image. Don't ZIP them; JPEGs don't compress. If you feel the urge, you may send more than one in the same mail. * The classic view for contest images doesn't have to be followed (i.e. Link/Mega Man winner on the left, Cloud/Samus winner on the right), but it's a good idea. * When sending your image, make sure you include in the text of the e-mail how you want to be credited. If not, I'll just have to guess using the e-mail address. * The only compensation you will receive for your image being selected is your name on the front page with your image, and, of course, bragging rights. This isn't an official contest, it's just a chance for you to show off your artwork skills. * All submissions become the property of CNET. Not that we're going to do anything with them other than (potentially) stick them on our servers for everyone too see, it's just that you can't turn around and say you don't want your image shown on the server, etc. * In the off-chance tomorrow's battle is close, you may want to hedge your bets and create images for both potential winners. --- The company has not shut down.
