Yesterday's match wasn't exactly close, but Excitebike did manage to put up respectable numbers. Even many of the folks voting against it couldn't help but throw it a kind word.

FFVII no question. It along with Mario 64 helped place video games to where they are now. Those two games were revolutionary. Animal Crossings may be "original" but it's average at best and I think a little overrated.

Oh c'mon! Animal Crossing gets so repetitive and dumb after a while! After a month it's a freaking interior decorating game after the trill of "oh my! The clock is the same as our real life clock! It knows that it's Earth Day!" is gone. I hate RPG's and have played FF7 for a whopping 10 minutes, and I'm voting for FF7! Crikeys!

And it's no surprise it's losing to Animal Crossing, with all the FF7 hate on these boards. It's perhaps the most underappreciated game around here in many ways.

With all the sheep here, FF7 would probably lose to Superman 64 and E.T. (no offense to people who actually prefer Animal Crossing).

Animal Crossing is nothing new or original, if you've ever played a PC sim before. Merely because it is probably one of the first sims to ever grace consoles (that was not a shoddy, half-assed port) is the reason for it's success. While I'll admit it was quirky and fun, it got old fast. "Fetch this" and "Take that" can only go so far.

Final Fantasy VII, hands down.

I own both of them, and while FFVII is good, I was done w/it after I beat it. On the other hand, It took me around 5 or 6 months to get bored of AC(havnt 'beat' it...just cant play it anymore...I have nightmares of Mr. Resseti :p)...I got a lot more joy and longevity out of AC, so my vote is for AC.

No its because many of us enjoy Animal Crossing..its simplistic yet incredibly fun and addicting. I own and like FF7 (though 8 is better). AC is a unique console experience..go pick up just about any console RPG to get an almost exact experience to FF7..

Because Nintendo can't sell the first one to people for nearly forever...

I've never played Animal Crossing, so perhaps that's why, but I don't really understand what makes it innovative. There have been non-linear (in the sense that you aren't bound down by a standard RPG storyline), play forever games made before...

But like I said I haven't played the game, so I guess I wouldn't really know either way.

That's why I wasn't tallying. Encourages people to bring FF7 back up there.

And, as one of the people who cast his vote entirely against FF7 (instead of for Animal Crossing), I can tell you it had nothing to do with Square. Square is awesome. FF6 and CT are two of the best games of all time; FFs 8 and 9 are painfully underrated. But FF7? Well, that's another story....

I've played both, and liked FF7 a lot better. But those who complained about the anti-square vote BS have annoyed me, so my vote goes to AC.

I dont even understand why this is so close. Animal crossing was fun for about....a week, then it just got boring with doing things for other people. ff7 Is a way better game, it is alot more in depth and i love the story line....plus tifa....wow

FFVII for me and the only reason this is close is becuase of all the anti-square people e.g classic nintendo lovers who may feel betrayed by square for moving console becvasue of how cheap the CDs were to program and make. Only an example because it is very unlikely i'll find any real ones because they have hopefully all grown up. Also I am not saying anyone in perticular is one nor one who has posted yet all i'm sayingis that they are out there.

I remembered when I first bought Animal Crossing, I really got a bang out of it for a while. But once I just kept going through the same routine each day, and once all my neighbors started to repeat themselves constantly ("Ah! Konnichiwa! I'm learning Japanese" "Ah! Konnichawa! I'm learning Japanese!"), I couldn't stand it for long.

The last time I remember being happy is when FFVII came out. So, here's to FFVII.

I don't think it matters who win this match. AC is a fun game but if this was a contest run by the "actual" site then the results would be totally different... it would be FFVII all the way..

I loved Final Fantasy VII, as well as other Final Fantasies (yet I loved VII above all others, yes, even above VI), but I can only play VII for so long. My first time playing it (my first time playing ANY RPG in fact), I got stuck in the Coral Prison and fought for about 5 hours over the course of a week, which sent my EXP levels soaring (having several weapons with Double AP Growth only fueled my ascent as my Materia mutated far beyond the levels they should currently reside at). By the time I actually figured out how to advance the story, my characters were next to indestructible. The only battle I found challenging AT ALL was the battle against the Demon Gate in the temple. There was a great story with fun gameplay, but absolutely no challenge whatsoever . . .

Animal Crossing doesn't really provide much of a challenge, either (the Banded Dragonfly wasn't that tough to catch!), unless you want to count patiently collecting a full inventory. But it is extremely addicting, more so than any other game of its type (and yes, I've played many different sims, from The Sims to the Tycoon games to Civilization to Sim City), on console or PC.

All things considered, I love both games, but Animal Crossing gets my vote: it just has so many things to do. Catch bugs, go fishing, design clothing, shop, run errands, play NES, decorate, write letters, etc, while FFVII only has less than challenging puzzles with equally simple battles with a great story and astounding FMVs. (I am NOT a Square/RPG hater. In fact, I would love it if someone could recommend a CHALLENGING RPG. Thanks!)

Don't worry about it Blitz Ace, its only a dumb poll. Most respectable people and their grandparents know that FF7 is better than Animal Crossing. We don't need a poll to tell us that man. Greatest game is a matter of opinion. FF7 has had some influence on other games though, if for no other reason because Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeris and Yuffie have made cameos in games since FF7.

I'd like to hear this. Last time someone tried this, every "innovation" someone credited FF7 with was done somewhere else first.

I find this funny because Square reminds me so much of Microsoft with RPGs. Someone else does something new, they incorporate it into their game and get all the credit because they have the name recognition and the advertising budget. FF7 did nothing new, it just took the credit for it.

First off, let me just say that I am a huge fan of FFVII. I love the music on that game. In fact, I'm sitting here listening to my FFVII music collection (all 84 songs on 4 cds) as we speak. I also found the game incredibly fun and enjoyable, much more so than XIII-X.

However, I also like Animal Crossing a lot. This would normally be a tough decision for me, but I got sick of listening to all the FFVII supporters on this board whining and acting immature, so I have to go with Animal Crossing.

This makes sense to me now. The people who play Final Fantasy 7 actually have lives and dont NEED polls to respect the greatness of the game. Voting is over, but my vote would have gone for AC too. AC was addictive fun, that I played for several months. I got bored of FF7 very quickly. By the time I got to the casino, I was tired of the angst. Give me a real FF like 4, 6, or Tactics any day.

I'm no Fanboy, but I can tell a lot of people are voting Animal Crossing because they are ant-FF7. That's just sad.

Anyways, I would vote Final Fantasy VII because it's one of the best RPG's, it's fun to play, and because the characters are cooler than stupid animals and such.

Lets see here...it was the first RPG to have a 3-Dimensional Battle System...it was the first RPG with Cinematics...first RPG with a 3-Dimensional overworld, it had great music...

I mean, come on, even a person who doesn't quite like FF7 can see the obvious effect it had on modern day RPG's.
