GoldenEye LTK and DLTK Guide

by Adam Bozon

Introduction

If you complete GoldenEye on the 00 Agent skill level then you open up the 007 mode which allows you to change options such as how much health the enemies have and how accurate they are. There are two different settings known as LTK (Licence to Kill) and DLTK (Dark Licence to Kill) which some people play and there are rankings for each of these settings.

LTK (Licence to Kill) is the easier one and can be thought of as a fourth skill level after Agent, Secret Agent and 00 Agent.
DLTK (Dark Licence to Kill) is the hardest one and can be thought as a fifth skill level.

The following settings are used in the 007 mode:

Settings

LTK DLTK

Enemy Health

0% 1000%

Enemy Damage

1000% 1000%

Enemy Accuracy

100% 100%

Enemy Reaction Speed

100% 100%

LTK is basically one shot kills so enemies die after one hit but you will also be killed in one hit as well. You might be able to survive one hit on some levels if you have picked up a body armour or if the guards have Klobbs which are really weak guns.

DLTK is much harder. You will still get killed in one hit but enemies will need the equivalent of about 10 head hits to kill. Body hits do half the damage of a head hit and limb hits do a quarter of the damage of a head hit and other hits do hardly any damage at all. You might be able to survive one hit on some levels if you have picked up a body armour or if the guards have Klobbs which are really weak guns. Guards can be blown up using grenades, mines or crates etc to save ammo and you can often kill a group of guards at the same time this way. If you struggling with low ammo then you can slap the guards but this can take a long time.

Rankings and Videos

If you are interested in trying these settings then you can join the rankings at http://rankings.the-elite.net/.

There should hopefully be links to videos for most of the best times on the rankings or you can search for videos on YouTube. You might need to record your runs if you start getting close to the world records or complete some of the more difficult levels. Remember to show the LTK/DLTK settings and cheat menu after the run on your videos or they won't be allowed on the rankings.

You might be able to do some of the easiest levels in a few tries but the hardest levels could take weeks or even months and will require a lot more time, effort and knowledge of the game to complete.

All the levels have been completed on both the LTK and DLTK settings now so they are possible although not many people have completed the hardest levels.

If you want another challenge then some people have tried LTK and DLTK with the Fast Animation cheat on. All of the levels have been completed on the LTK settings and some on the DLTK settings. Videos can be found on YouTube for the levels that have been completed.

Example Strategy Videos

I made tutorials for all of the LTK levels and several of the DLTK levels for people who are interested in playing them or need help with completing any of them that had written annotations throughout the run containing extra notes however YouTube have stopped showing annotations on all videos now so those notes have been deleted. I've left the videos on there anyway as the strategies on those videos are usually much easier to complete than the strategies you would probably see if you watched world records or some of the other quickest times on a level. These videos are aimed more at people who just want to complete a level rather than get a good time on it although some of these strategies can still get you a good time:

Example Strategy Video Notes

I haven't made example strategy videos for some of the DLTK levels because they are either really difficult levels or I haven't played them since about 2008 or 2009 and I would need to learn the level again. I would recommended doing the following for those levels:

Silo DLTK - I would recommend watching all the completions for this level but I wouldn't try it unless you've managed to complete all the other levels first.

Train DLTK - I added a text note file that can be downloaded to my Train DLTK 17:44 run so that would help if anyone wanted to try it sometime. I was being cautious on that run so an example strategy video would be very similar to that anyway.

Jungle DLTK - I'd recommend using the strategy from my Jungle DLTK 9:40 except for the Xenia part where I would recommend using the strategy that most other players such as Axel, Ilari and Wouter did. On that strategy you can stand in a safe place where Xenia can't get you and wait for Natalya to kill her. This saves ammo too which can be useful at the end.

Control DLTK - I would recommend watching my Control DLTK 12:03 video and any other videos you can find for various strategies to use on this level. For example, there have been several different strategies used for the Natalya protect.

Cradle DLTK - I would recommend using the strategy from the start of my Cradle DLTK 0:55 and then switching to the strategy I used on my Cradle DLTK 9:28 if Trev doesn't die. I added annotations to the Cradle DLTK 9:28 video to help people understand what I was doing on it so that would be worth watching.

Aztec DLTK - I would recommend watching my Aztec DLTK 15:54 and any other videos you can find for various strategies to use on this level. For example, there have been several different strategies used for killing or skipping Jaws.

LTK and DLTK Forums

There are LTK and DLTK topics on the GoldenEye forum at http://www.the-elite.net. You can post your times and videos in the LTK and DLTK topics on there and discuss strategies or ask any questions you might have.

Body Armoured Guards on DLTK

Most guards are just normal guards but a problem on DLTK is that some of them have body armour. You tend to get body armoured guards on the more difficult levels but many of the levels don't have any body armoured guards at all.

This causes problems because:
- They have more health and the strongest guards will take about 30 head hits to kill.
- Body armoured guards won't die in an explosion like normal DLTK guards do.
- Body armoured guards can't be stunned like normal DLTK guards can be when you are shooting them so they will shoot you back.
- Slapping guards won't stun them so you can't do that to save ammo.

When their health is getting low then their body armour will be gone. When this happens you will hear the guard shout "Ugh!" and this means that their body armour is gone. They will then just turn into a normal guard so can be blown up, slapped and stunned etc and will take the equivalent of another 10 head hits to kill like a normal guard would.

The body armoured guards can be recognised on some levels such as Cradle and Caverns because they wear different coloured hats to normal guards but on some other levels they just look like normal guards and you will need to learn which ones have body armour and which ones don't.

The blue hatted guards are the strongest and need about 30 head hits to kill.

The order of health for guards from strongest to weakest is: Blue hatted guards > Purple hatted guards > Black hatted guards > Normal guards

Tips

- Practise the level a lot with cheats on to begin with. The Invincibility, Invisibility, Infinite Ammo, All Guns and Gold PP7 cheats are probably the most useful when you are learning or practising a level.
- After that, keep practising it with Enemy Damage at 0% until you can do the whole level without taking more than just the occasional hit if you get unlucky or make a mistake.
- Watch videos if you are stuck or watch my example strategy videos. You might find easier strategies on them than the one you are currently using.
- There are levels that require a lot of patience and luck factors to go your way so it might take a while to get a good run on some levels.
- Contact someone on YouTube or ask for help on the LTK and DLTK topics on the GoldenEye forums if you don't understand something on a level or video for example.
